we rely on law enforcement to deal with the threats. we want congress to be safe. is this the sort of thing that would have shut down congress previously. we don't know, the congressman said we haven't had the briefing. but you can see a certain agenda in democrats' actions right now. including in the white house. because they want this to be a theme. they will try to keep what happened in january 6 alive. as an argument that the only extremists out there in the country are fall on one side of the political aisle. insurrection otherwise. this is their way of trying to undercut all conservative policies and the republican party. that is a different thing. i think it's dangerous. we should not play games with what are threats. credible or diminishing them or overhyping them because it gets in the way of law enforcement to do their job correctly. >> laura: congressman, i want to move to these forever lockdowns. dr. fauci was asked about texas. this is how he responded. >> dr. fauci: i don't know why they are doing it but it's certainly from a public health stan point is ill-advised. what we don't need right now is another surge. so just pulling back on all of the public health guidelines that we know work, it is inexplicable why you would want to pull back now. >> laura: congressman, whew should any state in the united states at this moment stay locked down when we have an open southern border? >> congressman: they shouldn't. let's go back to work. let's go back to school. let's go back to normal. sometimes the only one more wrong about covid than governor cuomo is dr. fauci. get back to prac -- practice. it's common sense. if you go outside and don't wear a mask some liberal will scream at you and say you are killing grandma. but if you are a covid-positive migrant, come on in. kim said this best. the double standard is driving americans crazy. so we are not going to protect the southern border protect the country but put a wall around congress and get a few things on the internet, shut down congress. it makes no sense. good common sense. democrats in congress don't have any. >> laura: it's so obvious. this has been going on now for a year. okay? >> the message is the same message that i started in 2019. but were continuing now be the pandemic overlay. immigration is a federal issue. not a yuma local issue. it needs a federal solution. not a yuma local solution. >> laura: so what does it mean to local communitys? i have been to a lot of border towns and reported from del rio, texas, which is now being completely overwhelmed, the eagle pass station there. what is it like to just run the community that you live in now given the numbers? they are only going to quintuple it looks like. >> really, what it is now it's so early in the process. being been through this in 2019, i can see this tracking the same as far as the severity and where this is going. so it's really about trying to be prepared. one of the difficult things about trying to be prepared in a pandemic is the things that we have all done in response to the pandemic that don't seem to always translate. so for instance, people that are coming in the country legally or illegally, you know, there is restrictions. well, it doesn't appear to be that is the case when it comes to the all legal crossings. so as people and the families are released from the border patrol, there is no testing going on. we don't know if they are released at 6% infection rate or 20% infection rate. we don't have the information to know how to manage the situation. >> laura: are you concerned tonight, mayor, about a new covid variant spread in your community given what we have seen in some of the other bug border crossings? >> the covid variant is something that i have not everyone begun to track. trying to get my hands around what is going on now. but a variant would really be a challenge. i don't know how the current vaccines work. we have really just begun to vaccinate our community. and so to get through the point of knowing if the vaunters are going to be impact -- variants are going to be impacted by vaccines or not and really introduce our community to a whole new virus essentially. everyone though it's a variant is a big concern. we struggled and we worked really hard to make sure the community was safe and responded well and people got care we needed. that could be a challenge now. >> laura: we hope that the kids are going to be going back to school. i know governor doocy is urging that. but do schools need for complications? >> you know other than russian-gate i don't think we have been deluged since the claim of the iraqi w.m.d. in 2002 as we have over the last month or so or six weeks about the riot at the capitol. i cannot overstate how desperately important it is to cling to the narrative what happened. they don't accept it if they say it's a protest that went out of control and became violent or a riot. they insist it has to be an armed insurrection as we just heard. or a coup attempt. why is that? >> not that i'm aware of. i do know we have used data -- this is reflected in some of the charging documents that had geolocation data. i don't know the background for what the underlying predicate was for the search warrant. >> laura: geolocation and other comments about the need for more surveillance tools in social media surveillance glen. again, what does this tell us about what they will, what lengths they will go to?
