Fentanyl is cause of hundreds of drug overdose deaths in New

Fentanyl overwhelmingly remains the most deadly illicit drug in New Hampshire, causing more than 260 overdose deaths by itself or in combination with other drugs during 2020, according to the annual report issued by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Although the medical examiner’s office is waiting for toxicology reports before it can finalize its 2020 overdose numbers, it appears there were about 400 drug deaths last year.
The medical examiner’s office also reported that of the 46 overdose deaths involving methamphetamines, 33 also involved an opioid, and in 31 cases that opioid was fentanyl.
Likewise, the office reported 51 overdose deaths in 2020 associated with cocaine, 44 also involving an opioid with fentanyl being the opioid in 41 cases.
