cannot get out quickly enough and want to and are asking for assistance from the u.s. government which is operating charter flights out of cairo, into locations in europe. cyprus and istanbul and athens and from there they will be on their own and have to make bookings for forward travel to the u.s. but in any case will be out of harm's way in egypt. 2400 people have asked for help and two charter planes left so far and, several more will be leaving over the next few days. there are 50,000 americans in cairo, in egypt, more than that, actually, 50,000 are the ones who have registered with the embassy and there are probably many more they don't know about. but so far 2400 asking for help and it's not mandatory evacuation but anybody who wants to leave can ask for assistance, at the embassy there are 380 officials working there and 600 dependents of those workers are going to be flown out over the next few days according to the
