CSPAN Campaign 2020 NH Democratic Party Convention - Andrew Yang July 14, 2024

[applause] mr. Yang hello, New Hampshire i love you guys. Oh my god. Thats what im talking about. So much love. So much love, New Hampshire. Whoo i love you all too, New Hampshire. I love you, too. How many of you know that i went to high school in the state, raise your hand. I went to Philips Exeter academy. I graduated in 1992. I have not been back in a long time because i did not enjoy my time here. The student body erupted in applause. After i graduated from exeter, i went to brown university, not far from here. I became an unhappy corporate attorney and then an entrepreneur. I did well in business. When i saw the country was headed in the wrong direction, i started a nonprofit that helped create thousands of jobs around the country in places like detroit, cleveland, st. Louis, baltimore, new orleans, and birmingham. [applause] thank you. And it was during those seven years that i couldve first hand look at why donald trump is our president today. Its the biggest question democrats need to answer in 2020. If you turn on cable news, you might think he is our president because of some mixture of russia, racism, facebook, the fbi, Hillary Clinton, emails, all linked together in some kind of brew. But i am a numbers guy in the numbers tell a distinct story. The reason donald trump is our president is that we automated away 4 Million Manufacturing jobs in ohio, pennsylvania, michigan, in the States Donald trump needed to win. How many of you know of a store closing where you live . Crazy but normal. Unfortunately no longer crazy. Why are those Stores Closing . One word answer. Amazon. Mr. Yang thats right, amazon. Is soaking up 20 billion in business everything a year. And how much is amazon paying in taxes . Zero. Mr. Yang thats right. 20 billion out zero back, that is a math. They are paying less in taxes than everyone here in this arena. I can say that with confidence. When you all call the Customer Service line of a big company and you get the software, the bought, what you do. Human on the get a line. In two or three years the software will sound like this, hey, andrew, hows it going, what kind you for you . It is going to be delightful, fast, efficient. You may not even realize it is software. What will that mean for that 2. 5 million americans who answer phones for a living . Is that are percent of your stores close, the most common job here is retail clerk. The average retail clerk is a 39 are woman making between nine dollars and 10 per hour. What she going to do . Where in the middle of the greatest economic transpiration in the history of art country. What experts are calling the fourth industrial revolution. One is the last time you heard a politician say the words fourth industrial revolution. Never. Yang just now. And im im barely a politician. This is what drugs i will temper the white house. We decimated jobs. Were doing the same thing now to retail jobs, truck driving. It is going to be a buzz saw through the economy. The people in d. C. Want nothing to do that. Trust me. I went there first. My first move was not run for president. I married her dive kids. I have kids. The question is what are we going to do about it . What is the Economic Vision that democrats are going to present to the american people. If you have heard about me youre thumbing like this, theres an asian man he wants to run for president he wants to give everyone a thousand dollars a month. Remember that . And the first time you heard that it sound like a gimmick. But then you dig into our countrys history and you find it is a deeply american idea thomas payne was four and founding. Mark luther king championed it in the 60s in the 1960s. It is what he was fighting for 1958 when he was assassinated. It was so mainstream it passed the u. S. House of representatives in 1971. One state has had a dividend like this in place for almost four years. What state is that . And how they pay for . And what is the oil of the 21st century . Technology, that is right. Data, software. A study just came out and said that your data, our data is now worth more than oil. How many of you remember getting your data check in the mail . [laughter] call this the oil check, and they like this. We are going to call this the tech check and all of americas going to love it. This is the trickle up economy. From our people, our families and our community up. You make arkham people stronger, healthier, mentally healthier. And the money would go back into our communities. You know where it would go. Think about this. What would he go . Daycare, repairs youve been putting off, Little League signups. It would create thousands of jobs right here in New Hampshire. This is the trickle up economy or this is the vision we have to present to the rest of the country as possible. Im candidate number 19 on the state today. [applause] [cheers and applause] as you know, the people who are here today, you all take a response build a very, very seriously and that you can take the future of this country. It is why youre here with me candidate number 19. You think your Something Like i do not know about that yang fellow isla met him the one time. Only met him the one time. It is up to you to take the country in the right direction as quickly as possible, to show we can build a trickle up economy. And we can solve the problem that got donald trump into the white house in 2016. In 2016, he said we are going to make America Great again. And what did Hillary Clinton say in response, americas already great. And that did not work out. [laughter] problem, essentially right, but his solutions where the opposite of what we need. For solutions where were going to build a wall, were going to turn the clock backwards, were going to bring the old jobs back. We need to turn the clock forward. We have to accelerate our economy and society as quickly as possible. We have to evolve in the way we think about work and value. In the ideal candidate for that job because the office the opposite of donald trump is an asian man who likes math. Thank you, New Hampshire. Thank you, New Hampshire i love you. [cheers and applause] [applause] next, live your calls and comment on washington journal then newsmakers.
