mesothelioma victims call now $30 billion in trust money has been set aside. you may be entitled to a portion of that money all when 8085920400. that's when 8085920400 two men one big night, how the candidates are preparing for the first presidential debate of the year. >> and what president biden's advisers consider donald trump's week spot plus political fallout in israel as the nation's top court rules, ultra orthodox jews must be drafted into the nation's military it is a huge blow for prime minister benjamin netanyahu. and selling off his sets to pay for his lies. we now know what will happen to infowars, the far-right outlet founded by conspiracy theorist alex jones were following these major developing or is in many more all coming in right here to cnn news central the countdown is on. >> we're just 48 hours plus a couple their out from the first presidential debate. >> and we've learned that right now, president biden and his advisers are holding mock debates at camp david formal run-throughs of thursday night's big showdown, right here. >> as you can see on your screen on cnn, the sources tell us the president is using a podium while aids are standing in for 40. president donald trump and the debate moderators are colleagues, jake tapper and dana bash, as 4 former president trump were told that he has no plans to gauge and mock debates instead, he's taking a less formal approach by spending the next two days in policy discussions at mar-a-lago. in fact, in a new interview, trump had this to say, quote, it's very hard to prepare, i think debating is an attitude more than anything. in the meantime, what are the top issues on voter's minds heading into the cnn debate? >> yeah, come thursday night, biden and trump have just 90 minutes to speak directly to the american people about the issues that matter most to them and with no audience they'll have a limited way to gauge how their messages resonating. cnn senior data reporter harry entin joins us now. so harry, what issues according to polling are most pertinent to voters right now, i just want to be clear. i hold a mock segment before this actual segment, i had a few people, although it was very difficult to find people to match your two wonderfulness but i was able to do it. anyway. all right, let's run some numbers here. what are the major factors that folks are saying for their vote for president and look, we've been talking about and all year long numero uno is the economy 82% right behind it is another form of the economy, i guess inflation seven hey, 5%. interestingly enough, stated democracy number three at 71%. that's obviously been an issue that joe biden's been hitting upon. so these are the three top major factor. so the question is, who to voters trust more on these issues? joe biden or donald trump? well, i'm on an inflation this is where donald trump wants to be playing a look at that. and 18 point lead over joe biden, the economy. another area where donald trump would be happy to play ball. look at that, uh, 13 point lean an average of paul's on the economy for the former president, the only one of those top major factor issues where joe biden leads is the state of democracy. look at that a second. i'm pointing at vantage, which is not half bad, but i think if you asked a lot of folks on a democratic side, they would hope this margin would climb ever higher. and i guess thursday's debate is a chance for them, or at least the chance for joe biden sort of push that message home. >> there's that old adage from james carville, right? it's the economy stupid and that i think has some historical precedent. harry, how is the economy impact elections in the past? >> yes. so why don't want back in time, you know me, i love digging through the polling archives. so i did it earlier today and i look back the polling archives since 1,976. and sure enough, i asked, is it always the economy stupid well, the candidate trusted more in the economy has one 18 times since 1976, but actually is lost four times since 1976. so, yes, more times than not the candidate trusted more on the economy wins. but if you ask donald trump last time around, did you win the 2020 election despite what he says, the actual truth is? no, he did not win that election and he of course was trusted more on the economy. so yeah you back better than you back worse, but it's far from a guarantee bars and take us through democracy being a top three issue. >> this to me is one of those interesting questions where again, i go into that polling archive and i type in these keywords and i go, okay, do we have any polling on the past than this? well, cycles when presidential pose presidential polls, ask who was better on democracy, there has only been one time when that was asked and that's this year, 2024. >> the other 19 times the other 19 cycles on which we have polling that question wasn't even asked. >> so this is a very unique time, a very unique issue. and joe biden, of course, given the polling that we see here trusted more on that particular issue is definitely going gonna be a message that he's going to push on thursday night. of course, we'll just have to wait and see whether or not that message works for him. >> yeah. we certainly will. all right. harry, thank you for that. we appreciate it. who do you think play due in his little mock segment? >> michelson were cornish probably about it makes sense. i'm john berman, maybe mailed. >> i probably berman. >> probably. all right. four sources close to the white house telling cnn there urging the biden campaign to use the debate to really go after trump on the economy specifically is perceived cozy relationship with corporate america. and in a new ad, the campaign in does just that here it is donald trump loves to attack joe biden. you by joe biden because he's focused on revenge and he has no plans to add to middle-class. >> he just give more tax cuts to the wealthy here's the difference donald trump is only out for himself joe biden is fighting for your family at the same time, cnn is just obtained a letter written by 16 nobel prize winning economists. and in it, they warn a against a second trump presidency. cnn's matt egan got a hold of this letter. mat what does it say? >> well, abortion, briana inflation clearly remains public enemy. number one in this economy, americans are so frustrated with the cost of living yet in this letter, these 16 nobel prize winning economist they're saying that trump's policies wouldn't just fail to fix inflation. it would actually make inflation even worse. let me read you a key line from this letter. these economists, right? we believe that a second trump term would have a negative impact on the u.s. economic standing in the world. >> and a de-stabilizing effect on the us's domestic economy. >> in particular, they argue that trump would quote re-ignite inflation. these economists point to specifically former president trump's policies around taxes, right? remember trump wants to extend the 2017 tax cuts economists say that would add trillions of dollars in debt and it would give the economy a sugar rush that it probably doesn't need trump's also polling for lifting tariffs. and an immigration crackdown, including unprecedented deportations at a time when businesses say they need more workers not fewer, economists say that all three are those points would actually make inflation even worse, reach out to the trump campaign. they responded by blasting the economists saying the american people don't need quote, worthless out of touch. nobel prize winners to tell them which president put more money in their pockets? boris and brionna. >> okay. so how does the economy compare for each president? >> well, let's go back and look at how things were in this economy when former president trump left office back in january 2021 at that point, the unemployment rate was 6.4%. of course that was coming down after biking to almost 15% during the worst of the covid crisis, we had very low inflation at that point sub a 2%. again, that was because the economy was still in this health crisis and consumer confidence was low. again, that was related to covid. now if we look at how things are right now under president biden we can see the unemployment rate is actually lower, right? 4%. and this is historically low. this is a jobs boom, but clearly the biggest problem in this economy under biden is the cost of living, right? inflation, cpi is at 3.3%. that's how much prices were going up year over year. that's a mask so the improvement from two years ago when this was at 9%, but it is still too high. and that of course has weighed on consumer confidence, which is higher than it was under trump, but still lower than you might expect when you're talking about historically low unemployment. and listen, we're going to hear the two candidates battle it out on these very issues. on thursday night and clearly, as harry was just saying in the last segment, how people feel about this economy that could be a major factor in november no question about that. >> matt egan, thanks so much. thank you. so now we have a pretty good idea of how voters or feeling about the issues, what they're most concerned about. we know how both sides are pairing and we now know how both of them are planning to attack each other. yeah, we do. and so with that cnn political director david chaldean is joining us live to talk a little bit more about it. he's already in atlanta for thursday night's face off. all right. david advisors actually urging biden then to attack from's record instead of touting his own. this is an interesting the advice that he's getting there. >> yeah, this is something you here sort of democrats have been chatting about for quite some time. usually democrats like not in the inner biden orbit, but just outside it, that the president, as one might expect danny, president wants to defend their record, but that is not what they see is the critical goal here for joe biden, what they see and what they're offering their some of their unsolicited advice to the biden team is make this all about the contrast. now, the biden team obviously wants that contrast to its why they clearly he wanted to debate earlier than ever in a general election season because they want biden and trump on the stage together to help wake up the american electorate, many of whom have tuned out of politics to say, this is the choice before you. now, the trump campaign though guys thinks that contrast suits them as well and there in lies the difference difference. both these guys think standing next to the other ones serves their purpose david, we just got some quotes from former president trump who spoke with a washington examiner and he, he speaks about the difference in his to debate performance is going back to 2020. >> he says, quote, i was very aggressive in the first one. the second one i was different and i got great marks on the second one. i'm probably going to look at the scene this time. it's like a fight. it depends on what the situation is. is it doesn't line up exactly with the reporting that we got about a very disciplined donald trump going into this debate, it seems like he's leaving the door open to be a bit more aggressive. >> perhaps, although it also seems to be a pretty self-aware donald trump in that quote, boris and sort of assessing those two debate performance is that, that the beginning of that quote seems to indicate to me he's aware that when he was ultra aggressive in 2020, that didn't necessarily the land. so well, listen, i think trying to guess exactly donald trump's demeanor or joe biden's demeanor and who will show up on the stage. that is a tricky proposition. these candidates need to prepare for every eventuality of what their opponent brings to the stage. but i think it's very revealing that donald trump himself sees a difference between an it's 22020 debate performances against this same opponent. we don't usually have that opportunity. we do in this scenario because of the rematch and perhaps he thinks that second version of himself serve his purposes better yeah. we'll see. are they going to stick more to policy contrasts? is it going to get personal? we don't know what these moments are going to be, but i wonder if you think the debate is going to present more opportunity or risk for the candidates? >> clearly, it presents a bit of both, but i think you'll see because i think any debate presents any kind of candidate risks. never mind the two oldest candidates to seek. the presidency for 90 minutes. obviously. but i do think the opportunity is so huge for each of them because this race has been so remarkably please, stable, brianna. and because we know there is a swath of the electorate that has been reluctant to tune in and engage on it. and both camps see bringing people who are not yet dialed into this race into the conversation as a critical component. so i'm i am very curious to see how they use that opportunity on this it's massive stage to try and reach that narrow swath of undecided persuadable voters in these key battleground states, every time they open their mouth, i'm going to be looking at through that lens of that small universe of voters who may actually prove decisive here yeah, there is so much to watch for. it is going to be the biggest moment that we've had so far in this election cycle. david chaldean. thanks so much. >> this is always, of course. >> and you will not want to miss president joe biden, former president donald trump head-to-head debating this thursday, june 27th right here on cnn, starting at 9:00 p.m. still have this court in the mariana islands near his home country of australia, will kind nir right it's sort of roughly on the way. and that is where he is expected to enter a guilty plea tomorrow which will allow him to avoid prison time in the us assange was released from a high-security british prison last night where he had spent the past five years notably, he's not coming to the continental us deliberately to enter that plea agreement as part of the deal assange pleads guilty to a single felony count of illegally obtaining and disclosing national security material. >> it includes one of the largest leaks of confidential military information in us history cnn, zach cohen joins us now. so zach, let's take a step back remind us how this all unfolded. >> it, guys, it's maybe the last chapter of what's been a long and very personal saga for members of the us intelligence community. >> members of the us military, and for assad himself, as he mentioned, he spent years in a british prison, a high security prison, for his alleged role in this massively think of military secrets. this goes all the way back to 2010, right? we remember that when wikileaks started publishing these trove of documents that ultimately ended up being about 500,000 secret military records. and they were given to him by then army intelligence analyst, chelsea manning. prosecutors your say that assange effectively goaded her into giving him those records. but look, what we've come to a point where this case is stretched out for so long that prosecutors and assads have reached a point where they found an agreement, those mutually beneficial prosecutors, we're not going to accept a deal that didn't include a felony plea assange has been in prison for a long time. and what is freedom, but did not want to stand trial in the continental us. so this deal effectively makes both of those things bright for both sides. >> any agreement on what future actions he let's say will not take. >> that's the biggest question, right? and that was part of why the justice department really wanted to insist that any agreement had to have a felony place ribbon deterrence effect, not just for assange, but other maybe copycat actors they are thinking about publishing massive troves of classified documents. but what does it very complicated case two, because assad has argued that he enjoys the same first amendment protections that you were. i do. is reporters and we have to remember that some of the material he published, including that video that showed an attack helicopter attack and bag in baghdad did reveal so new details about civilian deaths in war zones. the same time, prosecutors have said documents put us intelligence assets and us service members lives at risk of really a balancing act. and a lot of complicated both political and free speech issues at play. >> there was certainly a middle ground where some of that information could have been published and some of the more sensitive information patient identifying information could have been withheld. zach cohen. thanks so much for the update. appreciate. >> we've got a lot more to discuss today, including a controversial court decision in israel that's threatening to unravel prime minister benjamin netanyahu. and his ruling coalition the country's supreme court ordering the government draft ultra-orthodox jews into the military. something that hasn't been done since israel's founding. the decision comes at a pivotal moment in israel's nine month war against hamas, as israel's chief opposition leader, benny gantz resigned from the country's war cabinet earlier. >> this month, cnn's paula hancocks is in jerusalem, following all of this, paula what's the reaction like they're to this supreme court decision well, i'm embarrassed. >> i really are two very different reactions when it comes to the majority of israelis, we scenes for many recent polls that the majority do believe that the ultra orthodox, the haredi should not be exempted from the mandatory military service here. however, on the other side, we are already hearing that there will be protests planned by the ultra orthodox. this supreme court decision was a unanimous decision ordering the government to start bringing them into the mandatory military system. and also, if there are any religious schools that do not make their students basically except these draft notices, then the funding will be taken away from those religious schools. so really trying to bring them into it as well to try and make sure that these people actually comply. now of course, there will be those who are not happy. the israeli prime minister, for example, benjamin netanyahu he has to ultra orthodox parties within his ruling coalition and they help him to stay in power if they then decide to pull out of the coalition, then that poses a very big problem for the prime minister himself. now we've also heard from the deputy attorney general already saying to the government that they have to draft 3,000 ultra orthodox soldiers within this recruitment year. so it will be very interesting to watch this one going forward apollo, a report released today by the integrated food security phase classification says that gaza's population is at risk of famine what more e-learning? yes. so this group is effectively the un's hunger monitoring system and it says that almost the whole of gaza, 96% and that is about 2 million people plus are at risk of famine within the next three months. and they said that will be the case if, if the situation and the conditions do not change. so if the conflict continues for the next three months and if there is a problem with getting humanitarian aid into the country, now we've heard from humanitarian aid groups saying that they agree with these findings. the world food program saying they agree it's basically matches the testimony that we have been hearing on the ground in gaza, not just that there is not enough aid getting in, but also these groups saying that there is become a very difficult task and dangerous task to try, try and distribute this aid. we've heard the state department as well. the matthew miller, the spokesperson. they're saying this was discussed between the israeli defense minister, yoav gallant and lloyd austin in wash she just today about how they can secure these un groups, these humanitarian aid groups to make sure that the aid is getting to where it needs to because of the lawlessness in gaza. because of the looting and criminal gangs trying to take this aid to this report really does highlight, once again, just how desperate the situation is in gaza yeah, so important to paula. thank you for that report. life-force from jerusalem. next, the latest from a >> for hundreds of classified documents that prosecutors say were illegal for him to have their defense lawyer said the warrant was not specific enough and may have violated the former president's rights. they also said that some of the information in the warrant application misled the judge who approved it. now this attack on the paperwork is just one of the myriad ways the trump team is trying to get the case tossed. let's discuss with national security attorney bradley moss. bradley a great to be with you. >> we just got some new reporting from our team on the ground. and it sounds like federal judge aileen cannon said tuesday that she had a hard time seeing any problems with the warrant, the fbi a-b turn obtained to search more logo back in the summer of 2022 and your eyes, does the trump team have a stronger argument to stand on against the original search warrant no, not really. the warrant has even according to the recording, even judge cannon noted was largely particularized. >> it did what it was required to do for that stage of an investigation. this is before there was even an indictment, obviously, all day to do was out live for the magistrate, probable cause to believe that if evidenced documentation information relevant to the crime was gonna be at those locations, outline where the agents could search what they were to be collecting. it's pretty clear at this motion will go nowhere. i don't think donald trump's team really expected it to. >> they got more than they ever bargained for. they got weeks, if not months of delay and full hearing on it. that's all they can really hope for. they got the delay, they wanted. >> but on substance now, i don't think anybody expects this motion to be granted what we all do want to know about is the morning's hearing that was done sealed behind closed doors, dealing with the attorney-client privileged information that was disclosed to the grand jury i want to asked you about that, but as part of this reporting, apparently there was another tense moment in court and i want to get your thoughts on it. at one point, trump's attorneys claimed that the prosecutors should have to provide information about any divisions or disagreements in the fbi about the case and whether any agents involved in the case disliked donald trump. the prosecution immediately jumped up and called it an attempt to hijack the hearing. a dramatic moment. no question. >> but why would that information be relevant in this case? >> is there grounds for the defense to seek that kind of detail yes. >> so that is relevant to a separate motion and that's kinda what the prosecution was noting when they objected. there's a separate set of motions dealing with selective prosecution and a motion to compel additional discovery. it's this fishing explanation that trump is outside of the trump team is doing trying to gather details on whether or not there was some political motive behind in the decision to go forward, but a search warrant and the rate at mar-a-lago, whether or not there was dissent within the fbi ranks. i mean, look, the fbi's and bureaucracy, there's going to be different agents in different lawyers within the fbi and the doj, who were gonna be considering this momentous decision to conduct a search of a former president's residence? of course, i'm sure there were eating good discussions. >> but ultimately, it's going to be irrelevant to the issue of whether or not the warrant was proper, whether or not the investigation was proper, it's just a fishing expedition to throw political smear onto the whole thing. bradley, to the point that you made earlier about this morning's discussion regarding evan corcoran, the lord that was representing trump on this issue of classified documents at mar-a-lago initially, the trump team is again arguing that attorney client privilege was breached in this case and that it should have been then that's a reason to toss the charges aside. >> wasn't this adjudicated already though yes. so this was resolved by the judge out in dc is part of the grand jury proceedings before there was an indictment. and attorney-client privilege was pierced under what's known as the crime-fraud exception. you can use communicating patients with your attorney to commit a future crime, and that is what was alleged against donald trump. there was a lengthy ruling that's been made public as part of these motions that was issued in dc is pretty terms of why the attorney-client privilege was pierced at that time. but they're allowed to relitigate it here because there was an indictment brought into southern district florida and judge cannon has her ability to disagree with what the judge dc said. that's what we're really looking at because if that information gets tossed if the judge in if judge cannon decides the original ruling was erroneous, that would cripple the obstruction element of the government's case because it hinged a lot on those notes does that audio from evan corcoran as with so many of donald trump's legal cases, there are developments happening as we speak. >> and so i want to pivot to the new york hush money trial judge them or sean in that case has lifted parts of the gag order but he's keeping restrictions turns on comments related to prosecutors. court staff, and their families. so trump can basically talk about witnesses in the case, people like michael cohen or stormy daniel's trump's team as described it as a quote, another unlawful decision at this point after the conviction and before sentencing, do you think parts of the gag order still need to be in place yes, absolutely. and that's not necessarily out of the ordinary in a situation like this. look, there's still very much the ability of donald trump to try to interfere with the ongoing integrity of the proceedings especially because he still has to actually be sentenced. prosecutors and their families still are risks, as well as the court staff and their families. that's why this part of the gag order remains in place at least until july 11. but when it came to the witnesses, they've already testified there's no more threat that his comment i meant it could jeopardize the ability of them to or jeopardize their safety and put them at risk of not testifying. the testimonies on the record. so he's gonna be free. say what everyone's about michael cohen at thursday's debate. it's not going to change anything bradley moss always appreciate the analysis. thanks for joining us of course our next an inside look at the remote tribal land being used by cartel as a border crossing. leaving sacred ground litter and many migrants either stranded or right back in the desperate situation where they learned that president biden is expected to grant pardons to military veterans convicted under a former military law that banned gay sex. >> cnn's oren liebermann is with us now on this story or and tell us what you know? >> boris and brionna, according to three us officials, this announcement from president joe biden could come as soon as tomorrow, and it is significant. it will grant presidential pardons when it's announced to service members who had been convicted under a former military rule, that banned gay sex in the military, including consensual gay sex. now the law which was a former version of article one-to-five under the uniform code of military justice was an existence four, from 1951 to 2013. so for 62 years, there and it bend as i said, even consensual gay sex within the military. and that's what these pardons we'll go after that's what this will change when it's expected to be announced by president joe biden. perhaps as early as tomorrow. now, according to one of the officials we spoke with, this could affect as many as 2000 service members who had been convicted under this law before it was repealed or changed. rather in 2013. now there's more than just about writing a historical wrong here. that's because these convictions on their record made it difficult, for example, to obtain va benefits, to obtain potentially a home loan. the military education benefits. >> so this is intended to change all of that. >> now, it won't be automatic according to what we have learned those who had been convicted will apply and have their records changed for this presidential pardon. and then that will change the records there and change potentially how they have been discharged. this is on top of a previous effort from dod that was launched back in september reaching out to service members who had been discharged under don't ask, don't tell potentially as many as 13,000 service members in that case to upgrade the records and upgrade their discharges from dishonorable discharge to an honorable discharge. again, bars and brionna, this is more than about correcting a historical wrong. it is about getting them the benefits that they have mesothelioma victims call now $30 billion in trust money has been set aside. you may be entitled to a portion of that money all when 8085920400. that's when 8085920400 two men one big night, how the candidates are preparing for the first presidential debate of the year. >> and what president biden's advisers consider donald trump's week spot plus political fallout in israel as the nation's top court rules, ultra orthodox jews must be drafted into the nation's military it is a huge blow for prime minister benjamin netanyahu. and selling off his sets to pay for his lies. we now know what will happen to infowars, the far-right outlet founded by conspiracy theorist alex jones were following these major developing or is in many more all coming in right here to cnn news central the countdown is on. >> we're just 48 hours plus a couple their out from the first presidential debate. >> and we've learned that right now, president biden and his advisers are holding mock debates at camp david formal run-throughs of thursday night's big showdown, right here. >> as you can see on your screen on cnn, the sources tell us the president is using a podium while aids are standing in for 40. president donald trump and the debate moderators are colleagues, jake tapper and dana bash, as 4 former president trump were told that he has no plans to gauge and mock debates instead, he's taking a less formal approach by spending the next two days in policy discussions at mar-a-lago. in fact, in a new interview, trump had this to say, quote, it's very hard to prepare, i think debating is an attitude more than anything. in the meantime, what are the top issues on voter's minds heading into the cnn debate? >> yeah, come thursday night, biden and trump have just 90 minutes to speak directly to the american people about the issues that matter most to them and with no audience they'll have a limited way to gauge how their messages resonating. cnn senior data reporter harry entin joins us now. so harry, what issues according to polling are most pertinent to voters right now, i just want to be clear. i hold a mock segment before this actual segment, i had a few people, although it was very difficult to find people to match your two wonderfulness but i was able to do it. anyway. all right, let's run some numbers here. what are the major factors that folks are saying for their vote for president and look, we've been talking about and all year long numero uno is the economy 82% right behind it is another form of the economy, i guess inflation seven hey, 5%. interestingly enough, stated democracy number three at 71%. that's obviously been an issue that joe biden's been hitting upon. so these are the three top major factor. so the question is, who to voters trust more on these issues? joe biden or donald trump? well, i'm on an inflation this is where donald trump wants to be playing a look at that. and 18 point lead over joe biden, the economy. another area where donald trump would be happy to play ball. look at that, uh, 13 point lean an average of paul's on the economy for the former president, the only one of those top major factor issues where joe biden leads is the state of democracy. look at that a second. i'm pointing at vantage, which is not half bad, but i think if you asked a lot of folks on a democratic side, they would hope this margin would climb ever higher. and i guess thursday's debate is a chance for them, or at least the chance for joe biden sort of push that message home. >> there's that old adage from james carville, right? it's the economy stupid and that i think has some historical precedent. harry, how is the economy impact elections in the past? >> yes. so why don't want back in time, you know me, i love digging through the polling archives. so i did it earlier today and i look back the polling archives since 1,976. and sure enough, i asked, is it always the economy stupid well, the candidate trusted more in the economy has one 18 times since 1976, but actually is lost four times since 1976. so, yes, more times than not the candidate trusted more on the economy wins. but if you ask donald trump last time around, did you win the 2020 election despite what he says, the actual truth is? no, he did not win that election and he of course was trusted more on the economy. so yeah you back better than you back worse, but it's far from a guarantee bars and take us through democracy being a top three issue. >> this to me is one of those interesting questions where again, i go into that polling archive and i type in these keywords and i go, okay, do we have any polling on the past than this? well, cycles when presidential pose presidential polls, ask who was better on democracy, there has only been one time when that was asked and that's this year, 2024. >> the other 19 times the other 19 cycles on which we have polling that question wasn't even asked. >> so this is a very unique time, a very unique issue. and joe biden, of course, given the polling that we see here trusted more on that particular issue is definitely going gonna be a message that he's going to push on thursday night. of course, we'll just have to wait and see whether or not that message works for him. >> yeah. we certainly will. all right. harry, thank you for that. we appreciate it. who do you think play due in his little mock segment? >> michelson were cornish probably about it makes sense. i'm john berman, maybe mailed. >> i probably berman. >> probably. all right. four sources close to the white house telling cnn there urging the biden campaign to use the debate to really go after trump on the economy specifically is perceived cozy relationship with corporate america. and in a new ad, the campaign in does just that here it is donald trump loves to attack joe biden. you by joe biden because he's focused on revenge and he has no plans to add to middle-class. >> he just give more tax cuts to the wealthy here's the difference donald trump is only out for himself joe biden is fighting for your family at the same time, cnn is just obtained a letter written by 16 nobel prize winning economists. and in it, they warn a against a second trump presidency. cnn's matt egan got a hold of this letter. mat what does it say? >> well, abortion, briana inflation clearly remains public enemy. number one in this economy, americans are so frustrated with the cost of living yet in this letter, these 16 nobel prize winning economist they're saying that trump's policies wouldn't just fail to fix inflation. it would actually make inflation even worse. let me read you a key line from this letter. these economists, right? we believe that a second trump term would have a negative impact on the u.s. economic standing in the world. >> and a de-stabilizing effect on the us's domestic economy. >> in particular, they argue that trump would quote re-ignite inflation. these economists point to specifically former president trump's policies around taxes, right? remember trump wants to extend the 2017 tax cuts economists say that would add trillions of dollars in debt and it would give the economy a sugar rush that it probably doesn't need trump's also polling for lifting tariffs. and an immigration crackdown, including unprecedented deportations at a time when businesses say they need more workers not fewer, economists say that all three are those points would actually make inflation even worse, reach out to the trump campaign. they responded by blasting the economists saying the american people don't need quote, worthless out of touch. nobel prize winners to tell them which president put more money in their pockets? boris and brionna. >> okay. so how does the economy compare for each president? >> well, let's go back and look at how things were in this economy when former president trump left office back in january 2021 at that point, the unemployment rate was 6.4%. of course that was coming down after biking to almost 15% during the worst of the covid crisis, we had very low inflation at that point sub a 2%. again, that was because the economy was still in this health crisis and consumer confidence was low. again, that was related to covid. now if we look at how things are right now under president biden we can see the unemployment rate is actually lower, right? 4%. and this is historically low. this is a jobs boom, but clearly the biggest problem in this economy under biden is the cost of living, right? inflation, cpi is at 3.3%. that's how much prices were going up year over year. that's a mask so the improvement from two years ago when this was at 9%, but it is still too high. and that of course has weighed on consumer confidence, which is higher than it was under trump, but still lower than you might expect when you're talking about historically low unemployment. and listen, we're going to hear the two candidates battle it out on these very issues. on thursday night and clearly, as harry was just saying in the last segment, how people feel about this economy that could be a major factor in november no question about that. >> matt egan, thanks so much. thank you. so now we have a pretty good idea of how voters or feeling about the issues, what they're most concerned about. we know how both sides are pairing and we now know how both of them are planning to attack each other. yeah, we do. and so with that cnn political director david chaldean is joining us live to talk a little bit more about it. he's already in atlanta for thursday night's face off. all right. david advisors actually urging biden then to attack from's record instead of touting his own. this is an interesting the advice that he's getting there. >> yeah, this is something you here sort of democrats have been chatting about for quite some time. usually democrats like not in the inner biden orbit, but just outside it, that the president, as one might expect danny, president wants to defend their record, but that is not what they see is the critical goal here for joe biden, what they see and what they're offering their some of their unsolicited advice to the biden team is make this all about the contrast. now, the biden team obviously wants that contrast to its why they clearly he wanted to debate earlier than ever in a general election season because they want biden and trump on the stage together to help wake up the american electorate, many of whom have tuned out of politics to say, this is the choice before you. now, the trump campaign though guys thinks that contrast suits them as well and there in lies the difference difference. both these guys think standing next to the other ones serves their purpose david, we just got some quotes from former president trump who spoke with a washington examiner and he, he speaks about the difference in his to debate performance is going back to 2020. >> he says, quote, i was very aggressive in the first one. the second one i was different and i got great marks on the second one. i'm probably going to look at the scene this time. it's like a fight. it depends on what the situation is. is it doesn't line up exactly with the reporting that we got about a very disciplined donald trump going into this debate, it seems like he's leaving the door open to be a bit more aggressive. >> perhaps, although it also seems to be a pretty self-aware donald trump in that quote, boris and sort of assessing those two debate performance is that, that the beginning of that quote seems to indicate to me he's aware that when he was ultra aggressive in 2020, that didn't necessarily the land. so well, listen, i think trying to guess exactly donald trump's demeanor or joe biden's demeanor and who will show up on the stage. that is a tricky proposition. these candidates need to prepare for every eventuality of what their opponent brings to the stage. but i think it's very revealing that donald trump himself sees a difference between an it's 22020 debate performances against this same opponent. we don't usually have that opportunity. we do in this scenario because of the rematch and perhaps he thinks that second version of himself serve his purposes better yeah. we'll see. are they going to stick more to policy contrasts? is it going to get personal? we don't know what these moments are going to be, but i wonder if you think the debate is going to present more opportunity or risk for the candidates? >> clearly, it presents a bit of both, but i think you'll see because i think any debate presents any kind of candidate risks. never mind the two oldest candidates to seek. the presidency for 90 minutes. obviously. but i do think the opportunity is so huge for each of them because this race has been so remarkably please, stable, brianna. and because we know there is a swath of the electorate that has been reluctant to tune in and engage on it. and both camps see bringing people who are not yet dialed into this race into the conversation as a critical component. so i'm i am very curious to see how they use that opportunity on this it's massive stage to try and reach that narrow swath of undecided persuadable voters in these key battleground states, every time they open their mouth, i'm going to be looking at through that lens of that small universe of voters who may actually prove decisive here yeah, there is so much to watch for. it is going to be the biggest moment that we've had so far in this election cycle. david chaldean. thanks so much. >> this is always, of course. >> and you will not want to miss president joe biden, former president donald trump head-to-head debating this thursday, june 27th right here on cnn, starting at 9:00 p.m. still have this hour on cnn news central. >> he's accused of being involved in one of the largest u.s. government breaches of classified material ever. and right now, he's on his way to freedom with the details of court in the mariana islands near his home country of australia, will kind nir right it's sort of roughly on the way. and that is where he is expected to enter a guilty plea tomorrow which will allow him to avoid prison time in the us assange was released from a high-security british prison last night where he had spent the past five years notably, he's not coming to the continental us deliberately to enter that plea agreement as part of the deal assange pleads guilty to a single felony count of illegally obtaining and disclosing national security material. >> it includes one of the largest leaks of confidential military information in us history cnn, zach cohen joins us now. so zach, let's take a step back remind us how this all unfolded. >> it, guys, it's maybe the last chapter of what's been a long and very personal saga for members of the us intelligence community. >> members of the us military, and for assad himself, as he mentioned, he spent years in a british prison, a high security prison, for his alleged role in this massively think of military secrets. this goes all the way back to 2010, right? we remember that when wikileaks started publishing these trove of documents that ultimately ended up being about 500,000 secret military records. and they were given to him by then army intelligence analyst, chelsea manning. prosecutors your say that assange effectively goaded her into giving him those records. but look, what we've come to a point where this case is stretched out for so long that prosecutors and assads have reached a point where they found an agreement, those mutually beneficial prosecutors, we're not going to accept a deal that didn't include a felony plea assange has been in prison for a long time. and what is freedom, but did not want to stand trial in the continental us. so this deal effectively makes both of those things bright for both sides. >> any agreement on what future actions he let's say will not take. >> that's the biggest question, right? and that was part of why the justice department really wanted to insist that any agreement had to have a felony place ribbon deterrence effect, not just for assange, but other maybe copycat actors they are thinking about publishing massive troves of classified documents. but what does it very complicated case two, because assad has argued that he enjoys the same first amendment protections that you were. i do. is reporters and we have to remember that some of the material he published, including that video that showed an attack helicopter attack and bag in baghdad did reveal so new details about civilian deaths in war zones. the same time, prosecutors have said documents put us intelligence assets and us service members lives at risk of really a balancing act. and a lot of complicated both political and free speech issues at play. >> there was certainly a middle ground where some of that information could have been published and some of the more sensitive information patient identifying information could have been withheld. zach cohen. thanks so much for the update. appreciate. >> we've got a lot more to discuss today, including a controversial court decision in israel that's threatening to unravel prime minister benjamin netanyahu. and his ruling coalition the country's supreme court ordering the government draft ultra-orthodox jews into the military. something that hasn't been done since israel's founding. the decision comes at a pivotal moment in israel's nine month war against hamas, as israel's chief opposition leader, benny gantz resigned from the country's war cabinet earlier. >> this month, cnn's paula hancocks is in jerusalem, following all of this, paula what's the reaction like they're to this supreme court decision well, i'm embarrassed. >> i really are two very different reactions when it comes to the majority of israelis, we scenes for many recent polls that the majority do believe that the ultra orthodox, the haredi should not be exempted from the mandatory military service here. however, on the other side, we are already hearing that there will be protests planned by the ultra orthodox. this supreme court decision was a unanimous decision ordering the government to start bringing them into the mandatory military system. and also, if there are any religious schools that do not make their students basically except these draft notices, then the funding will be taken away from those religious schools. so really trying to bring them into it as well to try and make sure that these people actually comply. now of course, there will be those who are not happy. the israeli prime minister, for example, benjamin netanyahu he has to ultra orthodox parties within his ruling coalition and they help him to stay in power if they then decide to pull out of the coalition, then that poses a very big problem for the prime minister himself. now we've also heard from the deputy attorney general already saying to the government that they have to draft 3,000 ultra orthodox soldiers within this recruitment year. so it will be very interesting to watch this one going forward apollo, a report released today by the integrated food security phase classification says that gaza's population is at risk of famine what more e-learning? yes. so this group is effectively the un's hunger monitoring system and it says that almost the whole of gaza, 96% and that is about 2 million people plus are at risk of famine within the next three months. and they said that will be the case if, if the situation and the conditions do not change. so if the conflict continues for the next three months and if there is a problem with getting humanitarian aid into the country, now we've heard from humanitarian aid groups saying that they agree with these findings. the world food program saying they agree it's basically matches the testimony that we have been hearing on the ground in gaza, not just that there is not enough aid getting in, but also these groups saying that there is become a very difficult task and dangerous task to try, try and distribute this aid. we've heard the state department as well. the matthew miller, the spokesperson. they're saying this was discussed between the israeli defense minister, yoav gallant and lloyd austin in wash she just today about how they can secure these un groups, these humanitarian aid groups to make sure that the aid is getting to where it needs to because of the lawlessness in gaza. because of the looting and criminal gangs trying to take this aid to this report really does highlight, once again, just how desperate the situation is in gaza yeah, so important to paula. thank you for that report. life-force from jerusalem. next, the latest from a florida courtroom where hearing was held in former president trump's classified documents case as prosecutors reveal, never before we're seeing pictures the cnn presidential debate thursday night at >> for hundreds of classified documents that prosecutors say were illegal for him to have their defense lawyer said the warrant was not specific enough and may have violated the former president's rights. they also said that some of the information in the warrant application misled the judge who approved it. now this attack on the paperwork is just one of the myriad ways the trump team is trying to get the case tossed. let's discuss with national security attorney bradley moss. bradley a great to be with you. >> we just got some new reporting from our team on the ground. and it sounds like federal judge aileen cannon said tuesday that she had a hard time seeing any problems with the warrant, the fbi a-b turn obtained to search more logo back in the summer of 2022 and your eyes, does the trump team have a stronger argument to stand on against the original search warrant no, not really. the warrant has even according to the recording, even judge cannon noted was largely particularized. >> it did what it was required to do for that stage of an investigation. this is before there was even an indictment, obviously, all day to do was out live for the magistrate, probable cause to believe that if evidenced documentation information relevant to the crime was gonna be at those locations, outline where the agents could search what they were to be collecting. it's pretty clear at this motion will go nowhere. i don't think donald trump's team really expected it to. >> they got more than they ever bargained for. they got weeks, if not months of delay and full hearing on it. that's all they can really hope for. they got the delay, they wanted. >> but on substance now, i don't think anybody expects this motion to be granted what we all do want to know about is the morning's hearing that was done sealed behind closed doors, dealing with the attorney-client privileged information that was disclosed to the grand jury i want to asked you about that, but as part of this reporting, apparently there was another tense moment in court and i want to get your thoughts on it. at one point, trump's attorneys claimed that the prosecutors should have to provide information about any divisions or disagreements in the fbi about the case and whether any agents involved in the case disliked donald trump. the prosecution immediately jumped up and called it an attempt to hijack the hearing. a dramatic moment. no question. >> but why would that information be relevant in this case? >> is there grounds for the defense to seek that kind of detail yes. >> so that is relevant to a separate motion and that's kinda what the prosecution was noting when they objected. there's a separate set of motions dealing with selective prosecution and a motion to compel additional discovery. it's this fishing explanation that trump is outside of the trump team is doing trying to gather details on whether or not there was some political motive behind in the decision to go forward, but a search warrant and the rate at mar-a-lago, whether or not there was dissent within the fbi ranks. i mean, look, the fbi's and bureaucracy, there's going to be different agents in different lawyers within the fbi and the doj, who were gonna be considering this momentous decision to conduct a search of a former president's residence? of course, i'm sure there were eating good discussions. >> but ultimately, it's going to be irrelevant to the issue of whether or not the warrant was proper, whether or not the investigation was proper, it's just a fishing expedition to throw political smear onto the whole thing. bradley, to the point that you made earlier about this morning's discussion regarding evan corcoran, the lord that was representing trump on this issue of classified documents at mar-a-lago initially, the trump team is again arguing that attorney client privilege was breached in this case and that it should have been then that's a reason to toss the charges aside. >> wasn't this adjudicated already though yes. so this was resolved by the judge out in dc is part of the grand jury proceedings before there was an indictment. and attorney-client privilege was pierced under what's known as the crime-fraud exception. you can use communicating patients with your attorney to commit a future crime, and that is what was alleged against donald trump. there was a lengthy ruling that's been made public as part of these motions that was issued in dc is pretty terms of why the attorney-client privilege was pierced at that time. but they're allowed to relitigate it here because there was an indictment brought into southern district florida and judge cannon has her ability to disagree with what the judge dc said. that's what we're really looking at because if that information gets tossed if the judge in if judge cannon decides the original ruling was erroneous, that would cripple the obstruction element of the government's case because it hinged a lot on those notes does that audio from evan corcoran as with so many of donald trump's legal cases, there are developments happening as we speak. >> and so i want to pivot to the new york hush money trial judge them or sean in that case has lifted parts of the gag order but he's keeping restrictions turns on comments related to prosecutors. court staff, and their families. so trump can basically talk about witnesses in the case, people like michael cohen or stormy daniel's trump's team as described it as a quote, another unlawful decision at this point after the conviction and before sentencing, do you think parts of the gag order still need to be in place yes, absolutely. and that's not necessarily out of the ordinary in a situation like this. look, there's still very much the ability of donald trump to try to interfere with the ongoing integrity of the proceedings especially because he still has to actually be sentenced. prosecutors and their families still are learned that president biden is expected to grant pardons to military veterans convicted under a former military law that banned gay sex. >> cnn's oren liebermann is with us now on this story or and tell us what you know? >> boris and brionna, according to three us officials, this announcement from president joe biden could come as soon as tomorrow, and it is significant. it will grant presidential pardons when it's announced to service members who had been convicted under a former military rule, that banned gay sex in the military, including consensual gay sex. now the law which was a former version of article one-to-five under the uniform code of military justice was an existence four, from 1951 to 2013. so for 62 years, there and it bend as i said, even consensual gay sex within the military. and that's what these pardons we'll go after that's what this will change when it's expected to be announced by president joe biden. perhaps as early as tomorrow. now, according to one of the officials we spoke with, this could affect as many as 2000 service members who had been convicted under this law before it was repealed or changed. rather in 2013. now there's more than just about writing a historical wrong here. that's because these convictions on their record made it difficult, for example, to obtain va benefits, to obtain potentially a home loan. the military education benefits. >> so this is intended to change all of that. >> now, it won't be automatic according to what we have learned those who had been convicted will apply and have their records changed for this presidential pardon. and then that will change the records there and change potentially how they have been discharged. this is on top of a previous effort from dod that was launched back in september reaching out to service members who had been discharged under don't ask, don't tell potentially as many as 13,000 service members in that case to upgrade the records and upgrade their discharges from dishonorable discharge to an honorable discharge. again, bars and brionna, this is more than about correcting a historical wrong. it is about getting them the benefits that they have
