released of kate, the princess of wales. i'm kate bolduan, ms sarah cider, and john berman. this is seen a new central >> we are standing by for a history-making arrival at a federal prison in miami. any moment, donald trump's former white house adviser, peter navarro, is expected to show up in what he does. he will become the first former white house official ever jailed for contempt of congress in a manner of speaking, he is going to prison for donald trump navarro refused to comply with the subpoena for testimony and documents from the january 6 committee. navarro publicly bragged about his work to contest in there for delay the count from key swings after the 2020 election he called it the green base sweep, but he would not testify about it or even take the fifth and that he's getting him an extended stay in miami. cnn's randy k is live outside the prison this morning. how will this go down today? randy? >> well, john, we expect peter navarro to show up here shortly. he's actually going to hold a press conference outside this minimum security satellite prison here. satellite prison camp, just before he enters through those he's doors. he had this emergency request with the supreme court, as you know, on friday to try and intervene trying remain free while he challenged his conviction, but they rejected that just late yesterday and now he is expected to serve the four months conviction of the four-month sentence here at this camp. he does now have what's called it thank prison consultant john. this is a person who has helped him sort of figure out how to transition from the outside to the inside. and this prison consultant, san miguel, has told cnn that he hopes that navarro will spend the next four months inside this air condition dormitory for elderly inmates. navarro is 74 years old. there will be about 80 men in bunk beds in this dormitory. >> we also know that he is expected to take classes. he's expected to get a job we know from the prison consultant that he is urging him to work as a library clerk who couldn't. he could work inside and make perhaps thank cooler during these warmer temperatures in florida. and john on the inside, peter navarro will have access to make phone calls. he will have access to emails. he will also be able to watch the news. so perhaps so be able to pay attention to what's happening in the 2024 campaign. but this is one of the oldest prison camps in the country. and there were plenty of people here from puerto rico, this is the closest facility for the bureau of prisons to that territory. and we also know that it is right next door, john, to the zoo and the prison consultant tells us that every day the inmate's inside do get to hear the lions roaring. so for the next four months or however long he serves here peter navarro will be treated to that as well, and we do suspect that he should he could be out in as little as 90 days. john, according to this prison consultant, because there are laws in place that allow for lesser sentences for an early release for the federal. >> john, back to you he will be able to hear the lions roar. randy k outside this prison camp in miami, where as ready just reported, we are expecting peter navarro to arrive and speak to cameras and hold some kind of a news conference, sarah. >> all right? >> renewed outrage this morning after former president trump, cold out jewish democrats and questioned their loyalty >> any jewish person that votes for democrats hates their religion. they ate everything about israel. and they should be ashamed of those sales because israel will be destroyed. >> i was trump's speaking and a podcast interview with his former white house aide and far-right conspiracy theorists, sebastian gorka, at one point, drunk, goes on to say that senator majority leader chuck schumer is anti-israel. schumer is the highest-ranking jewish elected official in the united states. it's joining us now cnn's alayna treene want to treat his remarks are drawing a huge amount of criticism, including from groups like the anti-defamation league. what are they saying? >> right? well, sir, we we heard swift backlash from a number of groups as well as the biden white house and the biden campaign. i'm going to just read for you briefly some of that response. here's white house spokesperson andrew bates. he said, quote there's no justification for spreading toxic false stereotypes that threaten fellow citizens. >> none and then as you mentioned, we also heard from the anti-defamation league denouncing and condemning those remarks as well. but luck the trump campaign also weighed in and a spokesperson for the former president defended those remarks. here's what she said. this is from caroline leave at his spokesperson. she said, quote, president trump is right, the democratic party has turned into a full-blown anti hi israel, anti-semitic, pro terrorist cobol. so clearly very different takes on that rhetoric. but look sarah, this is the type of rhetoric from donald trump that is not entirely new. it is far from the first time that the former president has targeted jewish americans, donald trump is someone who claims, and i know from my reporting personally believes that he did more for israel than any other president in modern history. but there's an interesting distinction as well, sarah, about donald trump, and we've got a glimpse of it during that interview, he often conflate support for israel with being supportive of the jewish population despite trading in these anti-semitic stereotypes and last fall during celebrations of the jewish new year, we heard trump share a post on his social media platform, asserting that liberal jews who did not support him voted to destroy america and israel. that was, those were his words and shortly after losing the 2020 election, trump also lamented how his support for israel didn't seem to resonate with jewish american kim's at the ballot box. he felt at the time and still personally feels that democrats wrongly got a lot of votes from jewish people. and so again, this is something that is not entirely new from donald trump. we have heard this type of language before, but of course, some offensive remarks at our drawing criticism from across the board sarah, questioning the loyalty of jewish people in this country is a longtime anti-semitic trope. we will have to see what happens with this. i know the firestorm is not over yet. landed. trini. thank you so much >> let's talk more about those joining us right now is seen and political commentators paul, but gala and alice stewart, alice, let me add into in terms of the reaction to what donald trump is saying here on to play for you what the former former governor and former republican presidential candidate tim pawlenty said to me about the impact of trump's hate-filled language i'll read it uses we just lost the saudi basically makes the >> and now we have it back. let's listen whatever trump says doesn't seem to matter. we've all learned that lesson now, over years, he can say almost anything and it doesn't fundamentally change his numbers of support, at least with his base support and with some of the voters that are newly attracted to them, it's almost immune from his sort of hysterical rhetoric on all kinds of issues. this being one alice tape followed, didn't agree with what trump said at all. he made that clear in our conversation. what, what do you think of that assessment that trump's words because trump's words had an impact on voters in 2020, what about 24? >> look, i think this is another example where just sticking with the facts can make the case for republicans and the extra inflammatory language takes away from this year facts and i think the case can rightfully be made that republicans have been strong allies for israel and the jewish community. and former president trump, move mean the embassy to jerusalem is a big show of support for the jewish people and republicans have been steadfast behind israel with regard to the invasion, attack by hamas, strongly believing that israel has every right to defend themselves and fully supporting benjamin netanyahu and the contrast is what trump could have pointed it out is how democrats have been extremely divided on this. you have the far left part of the democratic party, some even the pro palestinian crowd that have advocated for from the river to the sea, the annihilation of israel, which is absurd. and that is anti-israel. and then you have many. chuck schumer with the support of president biden calling for regime change and benjamin netanyahu stepping, stepping down or new elections and the outright continued call for a ceasefire in the midst of israel trying to defend themselves. those are key issues that are factual. they are accurate and do show a sign that the democrats are are not, as i'm bored with israel and the jewish community as republicans are. and i think the case could have been made much stronger with the simple facts and not the inflamed rhetoric paul johnson, green-blue, the ceo of the anti-defamation league. he said this in part and reacting to a donald trump said he said serious leaders who care about the historic us israel alliance should focus on strengthening rather than unraveling bipartisan support for the state of israel and green blat raises an interesting point in this. who is donald trump trying to reach out to and to persuade with what he's doing here >> i have no idea. i have no idea. this is a man who had myers hitler me say that again. donald trump, admires adolf hitler. this is not my opinion. this is a reporting from our colleague jim sciutto we spoke to four-star marine general >> who was mr. >> trump's cheapest app general? kelly kelly says that trump praised adolf hitler in his presence. we know from trump's first wife, the late ivana trump, that trump kept a book of hitler's speeches by his bed. we know that trump traffics and anti-semitic tropes all the time. we know that he had dinner with an alleged holocaust denier at his lovely resort at mar-a-lago. so there are facts about donald trump and jews. it's also a fact that any symmetric attacks are up over 360%. >> since >> that awful terrorist attack on october 7, what do you think he is backed? morning? >> on the >> election ball? >> not much. pawlenty is right. i hate to sound cynical. would governor point out we'll be disrespectful? governor plenty is right >> because >> a lot of this is as they say, baked in and a lot of trump supporters simply denied this. they just ignore it. well, he just being a showman i think it's a lot better a lot more important for the biden campaign to be turning it back on the people's lives, rather than simply attacking trump's character. in other words, attack him on wanting to cut social medicare, that's something he said last week. he said he was open to cutting entitlements that it'd be presence going to arizona arizona, it's full of old people retirees. that's a much more effective attack, but i just have to speak the truth, which is that mr. trump has a really disgusting history of admiring adolf hitler alice, for how republicans, i'm thinking of presidential and down-ballot, as i know that you focus on as well, house republicans now have this >> wild twist of republicans campaigning against other incumbent republicans, something the house speaker is essentially begging them to cut out. >> and i'm wondering >> what is a bigger challenge that you see? four other republicans. this cycle, is it having trump at the top of the ticket since he hasn't proven helpful any cycles since he was first elected considering the language that he puts out or is it republicans eating their own in these primaries? >> look, i mean, we have a big test in ohio on that very issue and that's a great question, kate. but look history if it's any guide as you mentioned, donald trump's endorsements haven't been that tremendous in a general election so i think it's best advice for republicans to run on their own own record and run on their own issues and advocate to directly to the people and it's proven to be a better served if you don't rely on the coattails of donald trump in primary and specialty in a general election. so in my view, what we're seeing, the stronger candidates out of the primary are the ones who keep donald trump trump at arm's length on the personal level, but advocate for the policies because republican voters do support donald trump because of the policies. and certainly in a general election, his policies or better on the economy, on the border, on national security and safety issues in the policies are going to be winning issues and items four in november, and it's an interesting test of that is just delhi was talking about in ohio and that republican primary for the senate, the senate race there as they vote today, it's good to see both alice. thank you, paul, great to see you. thank you. john >> right. the lead israeli official, just a part of the hostage release discussions in doha so what is the new information we're getting way back home with us now is state department deputy principal spokesperson vedant patel. thank you so much for being with us. as we said, these discussions and doha have broken up for the day are you getting any information about the status of those discussions? >> thanks for having me, john, i don't have anything to update at the moment, but look, you've heard the secretary speak to this a number of times. we continue to believe that a deal is possible and it's important for those negotiations to continue and for those negotiations to continue privately and hopefully some real progress can be made >> a deal is possible. you say, hopefully some real progress can be made has any progress been made over the last few days >> i don't have any specifics to read out from the ongoing negotiations. it's time. >> what progress has been made in terms of getting food to people inside gaza? we just heard sound from secretary of state antony blinken saying that hunt, hundred percent of the civilian population faces starvation >> look there's no way to parse words. the humanitarian crisis in gaza is dire and we need to do everything we can to get more humanitarian aid. for foodstuffs into gaza and do so through every possible means. whether that means land convoys through air, drought, drops, and through a maritime corridors as well. just yesterday, we heard that convoy was able to successfully make its way from the southern part of gaza to the north. that is good progress, not nearly enough, but those are the kinds of things we want to see. we want to see it happen more frequently and at a higher rate >> president biden spoke with the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu today, and we do understand the subject of rafah came up israel continues to say that it reserves the right to go into rafah with a full military operation more than million people are there. what assurances did president biden get from the israeli prime minister >> so look, as it relates to the call between the president and prime minister netanyahu, you saw the national security advisor yesterday, speak pretty clearly about the topics on the subject of rafah united states has been i'm very clear that we believe that such kind of military activity in rafah requires a real credible plan, one that addresses the very serious humanitarian pieces that existing rafah you have to remember and rafah, there are more than 1 million people seeking refuge. it also continues to be at region where it would which is a major conduit for not just the flow of humanitarian aid, but for the safe departure of foreign nationals you also saw the white house announced yesterday that at the white house is invitation are israeli partners will be sending a team to discuss in further detail, planning around it the potential military operation in rafah. and we continue to believe that a plan is necessary for any kind of activity to be taken on. >> a plan is necessary. does that mean that you've heard a plan? have you received any assurances at this point, the state department? >> we still have yet not received any details as it relates to a plan, but we expect those conversations will continue. >> i know that around 30 americans were evacuated from haiti over the last few days. how many americans have contacted the embassy there or the state department said they want to get out >> so john, the crisis intake form that we have set up as it related to haiti, that number has approaching 1,000, but you have to remember that that is a population that includes individually vigils who yes, maybe interested in ready and departing haiti, but also individuals who might just be interested in staying in touch with the embassy, staying in touch to receive more information, staying in touch to learn about what opportunities for departure might exist. you also have to remember that since 2020 haiti has been a level four country, meaning do not travel and at every instance we have encouraged american citizens not just to not travel to haiti, but that if you are there to use any means necessary to depart we're continuing to look at what options are available in the light of limited commercial options. and we'll continue to work at this any, close coordination with our embassy in port-au-prince, any concrete plans for another round and other airlift >> i don't have new video footage of the princess of wales out in public. we're showing it to you right here. >> this video >> was released by the sun and in it, you can see kate and prince william walking together over the weekend, reportedly at a farmer's market near their home in windsor. now, after weeks of rumors and concern about the princess, does this video now put to rest all of this speculation about her health and what of the attempt in failure of the palace relate to be both in the public when it suits them, and also quite private at the very same time seen max foster is in london joining us right now. so max on this new video that we now have, is it real? and what does it show >> well, this is not official palace material, obviously, they don't normally want us to show these things, but it does very much speak to the narrative that they've been giving us that she is. well, you also see there that the couple of there they're looking happy with each other as well. so it also speaks to all of those are conspiracy theories out there. so don't think it's doing them any harm, but they very much stuck to a plan, but they're not sharing any information in these moments. even these moments should be private, which should be respecting their privacy whilst the princess recovers, but it's very encouraging news, i think for all of cakes fans and future subjects as well here in the uk and other parts of the world that she is indeed well is it real? well is from a very respected is reporter is taking on a mobile phone by what appears to be another customer. also, the palace aren't saying it isn't real. and at the same time we've been running it and the palace isn't saying don't run it, which or they would certainly do if this event didn't happen, they can't obviously speak for the actual video because it wasn't taken by them. but certainly it's pretty clear that they were there on the day that this was filmed >> and just kinda the walkthrough that we just had to do, max just speaks to the wild path that this has taken since her surgery. her being relatively quiet, the lack of detail that the palace giving out and then the the pictures that were then pulled back. and since then, this has been such a really strange path that has kind of thrown this palloson two up quite a pr crisis. but now we have this footage and we'll see what happens next. it's good to see max. thank you sir. all right. >> in the next hour, a former deputy who took part in a racially motivated torture of two black men in mississippi will learn his fate in federal court. hunter elward pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm, criminal home invasion to terrorize, and conspiracy. he was the officer who put a gun into one of the victims mouse and pulled the trigger he is one of six officers known as the goon squad to be sentenced in this horrific case, elward is facing up to 30 years behind bars my son shot in the mouth and he's telling me that michael is durham i want them to receive the same consideration they gave my son when they've broken it how and they taught you think that's what i want to see in court >> that's right. i woke the maximum sentence >> you're hearing from the mother of one of the victims. a second officer, jeffrey middleton, will also be sentenced. this afternoon, joining me now cnn legal analyst and criminal defense attorney joey jackson. this case sends shivers down your spine when you hear what these officers did i want to ask you about what's going to happen today in court, there will be victim impact statements, correct? what kind of influence might that have on the judge in this case? yeah. >> soured significant. so we know to a pleading or to have all of them have pled guilty to being sentenced today to tamar to the next day. victim impact statements could be very compelling, very telling, and certainly very impactful. why? >> because it gives the opportunity for the victims to talk about emotionally what this meant to them physically, how they would damage from an ongoing perspective, how it has impaired their life, how it has a paired their ability to function, what it has done to them. you couldn't imagine what they were going through, what that point in time the victim impact statements are. they bring us they're more importantly, they bring the judge there at the end of the day. it's the judge who has to make an assessment of the criminality. and then in sentence. and certainly when you hear those statements, it's a gut wrenching de for the victims certainly it's a gut wrenching de, in total, just based upon the nature of this particular case, we >> heard the mother of mr. jenkins, they're talking about that she wants a maximum sentence. federal prosecutors are also asking for the absolute max. does that have a big impact in this? >> it really does. and i think there's really no way out so big picture small pictures on our when you look at sentencing, you look at punishment, you look at deterrence, you look at rehabilitation. that's big picture in terms of punishment. what is the specific and appropriate punishment given the nature of what happened here? and we know the nature of what happened here was horrific, getting into a home without a warrant, right. inflicting towards archer sexual abuse, other things that were done at that particular time, pouring greece and everything else on them, just terrorizing them. you look at deterrence. what does a judge want to do? a judge wants to stem the specific message to them that this is not appropriate and a specific message of course, to anyone else who would think about this rehabilitation less so, but i think under the federal sentencing guidelines, a judge can consider the nature and gravity of the defense of the offense and what these particular people have done. and i think the judge will do so in the sentence is going to be significant >> we will wait and see i know the families are asking for a bigger investigation because the two men who went through all this and endured all this torture, believe this is a much bigger issue that wasn't just involving six officers. we will see what happens with moments ago that was president by net joint base andrews. he is on his way west to some key swing states, nevada and arizona. it comes to cnn, has new reporting about how the biden campaign plans to keep these dates blue after incredibly narrow victory in 2020. cnn stephanie elam is in reno, nevada this morning, which will be the president's first stop there. this is a trip was a pretty serious expectations for the biden campaign. stephanie and it's really important for him to get his message across here. john, because as you know, yeah, president biden did when >> nevada he did when arizona and 2020, but it looks like it's much higher stakes this time around, expect the president to speak a lot about protecting democracy democracy, while he is on the ground here. and also look to him to really try to bring in more latino voters, as well as more people of diverse backgrounds. here just taking a look at what biden's real focus will be on while he's here at protecting also unions, also looking at how i'm trying to make it more affordable for people. i'm really feeling like here in nevada is the place where he can do that as well. i'm also looking to create more jobs in clean energy and manufacturing as well. we should hear more of that from the president here today, also while he's here, he's expected to meet with local leaders here in washoe county, which a lot of the campaign feels is very important for biden's move here because it is such a crucial county, for democrats, so they're looking to get in front of some of those voters, some of those people who've supported them before and get their support again. and then as he makes his way later on today he's going to stop in las vegas, talk about that housing issue and then he'll make his way to phoenix, which as we know, is a major crucial battleground state. and while there, he is also going to really make that push to latino voters. and also starting their initiative that latinos gone biden harris, which they will begin in earnest while they're there in phoenix. in fact, we have a new ad campaign that they have launched today as they're trying to make this appeal to latino voters. let's take a listen to a little bit of it right here. >> for our of wales insulin that costs $35 or hundreds that is the difference between joe biden and donald trump for women. the freedom to control our own biases. >> what they are very clear on is that they need to bring in new voters to their side, bring in more diversity, diverse voters to their side here for the biden campaign, that's gonna be a big push them. the other thing that they're looking at is the fight for report rights here in hours, in nevada and in arizona, they're thinking back comparing moderate and female voters to their side as or maybe initiatives on the ballot come november john, it was really interesting in that commercial seeing it laid out as an explicit choice between president biden and donald trump, which is something the biden campaign is really hoping. it does be come for voters, at least in their minds going forward is definitely elm. thank you so much for that >> and today voters are headed to the polls and five states with the balance of power in congress are real question at the same time as john was just talking about joe biden and donald trump. they're charging ahead and their general election matchup well now, after trump's recent takeover of the republican national committee, the newly installed committee chair is facing questions about what that means for party unity what's party unity like? party unity is absolutely fantastic. i mean, president trump has done an absolutely great job winning all of the first four states, winning super tuesday clinching the presumptive nominee status and it's great because this is this is a movement that is going to help us all up and down the ballot all across the country >> and that is a subject and focus of a new piece in the atlantic titled trump repeats obama's mistake. here's a quote for you. donald trump has long to tested barack obama and sought to present himself as the opposite of his presidential predecessor every way. but in his takeover, the of the republican national committee, he risks echoing one of obama's biggest political mistakes joining me right now as the rider up that piece, david graham, a staff writer at the atlantic, it's great to see you, david, thanks for coming in. >> so the >> new chair says that trump's version of the republican party apparatus will help is helping republicans down-ballot. and you say, well, maybe not so much, tell us why the is i was considering this move and thinking about the way the barack obama kinda took >> over the dnc after he became president. it's always common for a presidential nominee or a president to take some control. but what you saw obama do is really orient the dnc around getting him reelected. and i see some of the same one thing happening with trump. he's more interested in his own reelection campaign and you hear his aides saying that is the goal of the rnc and the danger is that down-ballot races will become neglected and the party just want him to kind of organization it needs at the state and local level. >> what i'm after reading your piece, it started making me wonder what, if anything, any party can do about it. now, right. i mean, can you one unwind if you want to call a kind of a stranglehold mid election cycle i think it's very hard to do. and part of this is the environment we're in. we're parties are just not as strong. >> the >> presidential candidates are so strong and the control so much money and power and the party doesn't have the half that it once did and so i think it's very hard for a party to resist this in any way, but it's especially hard and middle of a campaign like because they're kind of reinventing the rnc as they go even while the general election has started and it's a very strange situation to be in >> talk to me about the lessons here. the lessons trump could have learned from obama and then it will continue on if you will, because do you think any politician who reaches this point? >> obama and >> await trump now in 24 would decide that the parties should not focus on helping them get elected first. and the candidates down-ballot second i think it's a natural impulse their interest is so important you so much reelection or election, and that's going to be their only focus. but that's why it's important to have another organization that is worried about your senate races, your house races, your, your state legislative races. so i think a couple of lessons are one, you need a party committee that remained strong. it has to be unified with your presidential campaign, but you need a strong committee and it needs to be focused on other issues. and it probably shouldn't be quarters, which i think is a mistake we saw with obama after the test nate election. and we may be seeing now with the rnc moving some of its functions to palm beach david graham of the atlantic, it's great to see you. thanks for the peace, thanks for coming on >> sir. >> we must save the fruit at all costs year to wrote joining us now from tj more farms and alto, georgia is cnn's elisa raffa at least so what is the latest with the seasonal showdown, if you will? >> yeah. i mean, it's called out here this morning, doesn't feel like we're going to bring in spring tonight, even though we had a pretty warm winter here in northern georgia, ranking top 20 in atlanta. now the problem is, we can still get frost through march. the problem is, is that winter was warm and things start to bloom. you see, we've got some blankets on some strawberries behind me, all that white that you see there is some covers over rows and rows of strawberries that started to pop about a week or so early, kinda triggered by some warmer temperatures. we have some beautiful peach trees as well that have these gorgeous good about what happened last night is just your own pins and needles for a few hours there. you nerves are shot how is it challenging to kind of keep up with these trends if winter is warm, like it was this year. what does that do to does it get what it needs in winter? how was that difficult to track as we still can get freezes. >> so there's a couple of issues that we worry about during the wintertime and that's the first one. these treason need a certain amount of chill hours, hours under 45 degrees and luckily, we got them an issue. we got all those hours are early december and january, then all of a sudden february gets here and it warms up and that's always what we hate as peach farmers is to see a warm february because those trees are ready to go. them when they've got
