to three hours a week. hello and welcome to the programme. it is some storm that reverses the flow of the mississippi river! hurricane ida landed a category 4 hurricane and blew through south east louisiana with such force that at times they recorded sustained winds of over isomph. today the search and rescue teams were fanning out across the state to assess the scale of the damage. and it is widespread. there have been reports of people climbing into attics to escape the rising waters flood. the rising waters. it s not as bad as katrina, which devestated new orleans 16 years ago it would appear the levees, barriers and pumps have done theirjob but still, there are i million people in and around the city without any power, and they will be for some time. from new orleans here s our correspondent, neda tawfiq. this was the force of hurricane ida s wins. a hospital s roof was lifted off by ease by the gas. low lying areas were overwhelmed by the tidal surge. this footage fr
after hurricane katrina. and hospitals across the south are now running out of oxygen as people who still are not vaccinated push icus to the limits. welcome to the lead. i m jake tapper. and we begin this hour with breaking news in our world lead hours before the u.s. is due to leave afghanistan completely, there are still some 250 american citizens in the country who want to leave and have not been able to. that is according to a senior state department official. the 20-year-long war in afghanistan, america s longest war, does appear almost over. it is now august 31st in kabul, and the massive evacuation operation is coming to a close. the pentagon claims that the u.s. has evacuated or aided in the evacuation of more than 116,000 people from afghanistan since august 14th. a huge number. but the danger there remains very real. the u.s. carried out a drone strike in kabul to eliminate an imminent threat believed to be a suicide bomber. the strike inadvertently killed

retribution against those responsible. we will hunt you down and make you pay. right now things are remarkably calm and empty around the kabul airport. many people appears too scared to crowd at the entrances to get people with the u.s. with special last-minute access request to the airport, there were about 4500 people at the airport awaiting departure, that is inside of the gates as of this morning. about 12,500 people were evacuated in the last 24-hour period. in total now the u.s. has evacuated more than 100,000 people. this since august 14th. we have a team of reporters as we do every morning covering this story for all angles. we begin with nick paton walsh in doha. tell us the status of the evacuation. it should be noted that even in minutes following this attack, flights were still taking off and they ve continued. how are they managing that and with what sort of pace? reporter: yeah, i mean, it is quite clear it seems that the security is playing on how fast th
