we continue to follow the developments coming in this hour. we are getting more of the firsthand look at the dangerous situation still unfolding on the ground throughout israel and gaza. and now three days after the massive terrorist attack by hamas on israeli civilians. >> this is new, a number of suspects who infiltrated from israel into lebanon were killed and the idf soldiers are raining down missiles on gaza as well as airstrikes pounding, pounding the city of gaza this morning. >> our teams have seen the israeli troops and armor moving towards gaza border. cnn's clarissa ward and the team were near that border, and they had to take cover in a ditch as the rockets flew overhead. >> i will tell you have to take shelter. ok okay. >> go! >> yeah. yeah. okay. get down. close, close, close. you're fine. you're fine. you're fine. you're fine. you are okay. you are all right. you are all right. >> okay. >> you are okay. >> all right. yeah. guys? are you seeing our situation, guys? >> yes. >> okay. can you hear our situation? [ bleep ] guys, come to us. yeah, right now. >> you have to come right now. were you guys rolling on this? >> yeah, they were rolling. >> okay. >> clarissa. >> hi, john, forgive me, because i am not in an elegant position, because we have had a massive barrage of rockets coming in here not far from us, and so, we have had to take shelt here by the roadside, and we are about five minutes away, and gaza is in that direction and we can hear the jets in the sky, and we can also hear the iron dome intercepting a number of the rockets as they were whizzing overhead and making impact in that direction, and not too far from here. we came to this location, because this was ground zero for this entire operation of carnage, and the hamas hill tants came on a pickup truck, and this is the first place where they breached that border wall, and basically drove down this strip just spraying lead wherever th saw, and in fact, ig to grab it, and the heavy weaponry, and they say that we can get up now. where are we moving to? sorry, one second, guys. all right. so now i can show you -- oh, the scene here. this is where the militants first came opening up fire on these vehicles, and there is a baby carriage turned over on the side, and clayton, if you can show in the distance there some kind of strikes that looks like in gaza as well return fire is that rocket launches? forgive me. difficult after being crouched in a ditch exactly what has been going on, but yes, multiple casualties along this area. and you can probably see the scale of the damage that was done to these vehicles. a lot of them just blew up with the force of the ammunition that they were taking, and they are just now towing away the actual pickup truck that was carrying those hamas fighters. they were met with some resistance -- careful, clayton. there were a couple of bullet holes in the windshields, and so they stopped the car, and they got out of it, and they just went on this shooting spree. this is also they believe where a lot the hostages were taken, and they just got out of this, and started grabbing people, and shooting people and taking them back to that side of the border. john. >> so, clarissa, i will give you a chance to catch your breath here. so you were headed closer to the israel/gaza border, and you heard the rockets fired from inside, and -- >> yeah, a lot. >> reporter: being intercepted, and what is around you in terms of the civilian life? are the israelis back in their homes? >> not here they are not. this was, and you know, the city over there was a buzzing city rehovot, and this is where most people are spending their days in a shelter. so this is really kind of becoming an area where the vehicles that you will see is ones like this. israeli military, israeli personnel is really the army personnel being moved and deployed up and down this border fueling speculation that some kind of a ground offensive could be imminent, although, obviously, it is complicated by the fact that there are a lot of hostages, and i am just moving us out of the roadway here. oh, another one. you can see where they shot thup car here. completely destroyed. we don't know how many lives were lost here, and it is a difficult sense here of who was alive and taken as a hostage, but you can imagine the visceral terror as this scene was unfolding, john. >> clarissa, this is sara, and you have been not only there where you have been seeing the rocket fire still coming in, but you have actually went to the site where there was this festival, and that awful video of people running for their lives and being slaughtered by hamas militant, and can you give us a sense of what you saw there? >> so, we visited there yesterday, sara, and i want to step out of the way, because there is an ambulance coming this way. we visited there yesterday, and again, just carnage. you can still see the dead bodies of those hamas militants all over the approach to that kibbutz where young revelers were celebrating the end of the high holidays and they were dancing throughout the night until about 6:00 in the morning when the militants started to fire a barrage of rockets overhead, and then they actually infiltrated the dance party, and sorry, i wanted to move us over here again, and we are trying to keep out of the way of these guys to let them do their job. i wonder if someone in the control room can turn around the video of the initial moments when we were taking shelter when that barrage of rockets came in, and that seen at re'im, and the kibbutz that you were talking about, it was nothing short of terrifying, and the fear of the families, and they don't know, sara, if the loved ones are even alive, and the israeli volunteer group who identifies human remains said that there were at least 260 bodies found, but there were thousands of people there, and there are families who are desperately looking and don't know where their loved ones are. >> and what you are showing in stark difference is that this is not a terrorist attack, this is ongoing. so, coming back to you when you hit the deck with the crew, what was happening around you, and what does it tell about this ongoing situation? >> yeah, so just as we started this live shot, the red alert went out which means incoming is imminent. we tried to run to shelter, but we didn't quite make it, because we could hear the rockets whizzing overhead, and so we had to sort of jump into the ditch over there, and wait for barrage passing and we could hear the iron dome activated. but it is a sense that even with the most sophisticated military technology, the israelis are still up against a really tough fight, and the prime minister b.b. netanyahu, benjamin netanyahu, he has said that himself, you have to prepare yourselves for a long fight, and a tough fight. at the moment, the focus is obviously on trying to ensure that any hamas militants able to infiltrate that border have been successfully pushed out and to repair the breaches to the border. dozens and dozens obreaches all along that border. and then of course to try to win back the release of these dozens of hostages. and hamas saying more than 100 hostage, and the israelis on the ground here saying they don't know if they are alive or what the situation is with regards to the whereabouts or their health. so it is a very, very delicate calibration that the israelis have to engage on trying to thread the needle in issuing a fearsome response to the unprecedented act of aggression and at the same time trying to protect the lives of those held hostage in the gaza strip. >> clarissa, thank you so much. we'll get back to you. all right. that is clarissa ward from earlier, and just about one hour ago is when we last connected with her. yes. and new video is coming in, and i wanted to warn you that it is graphic video of what the officials in gaza say is an israeli air strike on the refugee camp there. and i warn you, this is graphic. [ screaming ] [ sirens ] [ speaking in a global language ] that is from a refugee camp, and that from the music celebration that was interrupted by a warning on the speakers that everyone was told to leave immediately and then the sound of rockets. [ speaking in a global language ] >> cnn's nic robertson is in re'im in israel, and we have been watching you all morning as people are coming to the area where all of the cars have been shot up, pulled over to the side, and trying to find anything that they can salvage to help people understand where their loved ones are, and can you give us a sense of what is happening there now? >> yeah. it is eerie. there are moments of silence where you are standing by these cars where you know that there was so much carnage perpetrate and fear, and these people are coming, and young people are coming to party, and look, the shoes that are strewn here. these are party shoes. people were running away. the people who are here taking documents, they have moved on and this is an active military area, and a lot of the military coming and going, and vehicles and military deploying along here, but this is just left the way it was saturday night as people were trying to flee hamas, and you have the sense of the desperation and there are bullet holes sprayed with bullet holes here, and windows shot out, and the party chairs, bottles of water in the back here. young people had come, and innocent young people, teenagers, and people in the 20s had come here to enjoy themselves, to relax after the holidays. they heard the warning and ran away, they came here to try to get into their cars, and they were gunned down. and just scattered here in the fields as the people were trying to get away, and strewn across the road, belongings here, and there is blood here in the road, and what i wanted to show you, sara, what we want to show you before, the bomb shelters, and these brightly painted concrete bunkers here for people to go hide in when there is danger close, and the rockets are coming, and pause, john, because will you pan over there to gaza, and look agent gaza, and large plume of smoke rising up from gaza, and of course, we are hearing the fighter jets overhead, and impacting inside of gaza, and you have been showing injured people from the refugee camp there, and that is looking like a recent impact. i am still hearing jets. just off to the right, the smoke has been rising from that one for a while, and that other one that we are looking at is very new. i will talk about this bunker. so everyone has raced here and as many could get away and raced here in their cars, and they did what they are naturally trained to do. if there is danger close, you go to get into one of the brightly painted shelters here, and this is the jewish national fund usa, and it is brightly painted, and people understand this is where to go to get safe, but outside of here smashed water bottles, and broken shoes. as i step inside of here, you are overcome by the smell. what is clear that happened here, people came in here to get shelter. there's gunshots and impacts all over the wall. i don't think that we will go in too far, john, if we just step out, let me describe what we are seeing, because it is a very horrific testimony to the absolute carnage rampage and utter, utter brutality of hamas that people were hiding in there, and it is absolutely clear from the blood on the walls, and the bullet holes in the walls that they just went in there and shot these innocent people cowering and hiding away from them inside of this concrete place of safety, this safety. hamas just chased them in and brutally gunned them down. there is no stronger testimony i think to the horrific events of that morning. and that horrific nature of what hamas was doing, and the deep scar it has left on everyone in this country, and to that point, the military buildup that is under way that is going to help ease some of that pain. >> nic robertson, that is striking, showing us what happened inside of that shelter, because as anyone who has been to israel knows that is where you go for safety, but that is for rocket attacks, and this is for attacks coming from gaza, and not gunmen on the ground who were there to slaughter and capture people. just seeing that is so strikingly disturbing. i know it is hard for you to see it, and horrible for the families to see it, but thank you for showing us what is happening on the ground right now in the aftermath of this, and this is still ongoing. there are still, as you said, air strikes that we are seeing land in gaza, and we can hear the flights over your head, and we can hear the attacks happening, and it is just a very, very dangerous situation. and thank you to you and your crew for sharing that with us. >> and again, israel has been forced to move in towards the gaza border, and evidence of the helicopter striking, and helicopter striking inside of lebanon and we will have more on that shortly. and now we go to becky anderson in tel aviv. becky. >> thank you. we are in tel aviv in central israel of course, and we have all day been feeling this sort of the low level rumbling of what is going on in gaza, and what is coming out of gaza, and so as we have seen, we have witness now, video coming in from gaza of the aftermath of the idf strikes on military targets as they have described them in gaza, and a continuous, intensive strikes on gaza now. so, we are also seeing outcoming fire from hamas still today, and we have had sirens going off in tel aviv here, and we had to take shelter in the hotel that we are in as incoming mortars are claimed by hamas were targeted at the ben gurian here. and we know they have targeted the armed militants who have crossed into and breached the border and crossed into israel and they have taken out, and been striking those militants and indeed targets signed of lebanon. we will get more on that for you as we get it into cnn. for now, i am joined by the former israeli prime minister ihad barack who is the intelligence chief and your files are numerous, and you are el imbued in the politics and the strategies, and what are you making of the present, sir? >> yesterday, we suffered a major blow, and very painful, and the most highest death toll of any day of our fighting history. the numbers might amount to 800 or several -- >> it is 700 at the moment, and you are saying 800 or 900. >> or more. and basically, so we are at war, and we are a defiant people, and we will fight. we will win. it is a serious situation. and it is to get tone the deterioration miles from here, but we will be ready to mobilize several thousand rockets which is a failure of the warning system, and even of the wayt is described this way. but, we will have time in the future to collect it, but we are now united for the fighting, and we will not repeat the mistakes that have been done there. >> in the short term, i want to talk about what this war is going to look like, and what sort of price could be exacted. so, your sense of whether we are on the verge of a ground incursion as the defense minister announces that there is now a total siege of gaza. the electricity is cut off, food is cut off and fuel is cut off. >> yes, it is not incursion, but probable incursion, and most of the gaza will be taken over in a few days and probably two to three week, and this is not the problem. the problem is how to relay the fact that we have hostages there and how to end up what is going to end up having -- >> and the palestinian population. >> and to have in advance and we do not have any interest in having the full scale clash with the hezbollah, but if it will happen upon their choice or the without control, we will end there as well. so it will be longer and more painful, but you know, i have to put it in proportion. israel under any case not under any existential threat. we are stronger. we will win. we suffered the blow, and we will learn the immediate lessons and the others for a long time. >> you are immediately aware that the enemies of israel will say, it is may not be, you know, a nation that is facing existential threat, but it iis vulnerable at the moment. it looks vulnerable. now, let's start at the hostages that you brought up, because this is important. as we understand it, more than 100 hostages according to hamas. they have not released exact num number, but there are significant israeli hostages and as we have been reporting for hours, it very much complicates what happens next as the idf's tactics and you know this bert than anybody else. >> i know it very well. and so, i cannot discuss that in front of the cameras, because even the hamas follows cnn. >> it is complicated. >> and yes, to talk about it in front of the camera, and the responsibly and determinedly, we will have to give a major blow to the hamas that we did. >> and you have talked about hezbollah and that group in southern lebanon on the north earn border of israel here, and you say that israel does not want to fight with them, but if there is a fight to be waged, israel will win. and the lebanese prime minister said he does not want to fight with israel, and hezbollah is a group that not controlled by the prime minister, but he is being warned by many people around this region that he needs a line of communication with hezbollah that says don't get involved. we have already seen some involvement. are you concerned about how much involvement today, or do you see it as a small enough to suggest that they are not wanting to get involved? >> well, what happened today is not enough to drag us into a major clash. it is true that the hezbollah may consider it in a normal calculation, but what in every settlement knows that they will be met with heavy forces to protect the country, and to come into the clash if it persists. >> and what does this mean for b.b. netanyahu, and benjamin netanyahu, and you have been in that chair. what is the impact on this prime minister at this point? >> well, it is very tough moment for him as well. but he is experienced prime minister. we are in a major debate with them about other initiatives with him which we feel a certain relationship to these events that we are facing now, and basically, i fully back the protest movement which think that all of the judicial have formed so to speak as described by the chief justice that this is not judicial reform. this is a blatant attempt to push israel out of the family of democracy. >> and that is a file that we should consider in cont here s, -- consider in context here. and i want to ask you about benjamin netanyahu, because the opposition leaders have said they would go into the unity government at this point, and even the most right-wing government members have said that an emergency unity government is important at this point. do you expect to see that? >> under the normal situation, it was the most expected step to establish -- >> a war coalition. >> a government in the moments of war, and this is the republic united and nowadays with those there are certain extra in the government -- >> and the national security minister -- >> and the americans they have two guys like the proud boys in 2015 and making one of them the secretary of treasury and the other the secretary of treasury and totally irresponsible people, and so the opposition would make it quite clear that they would not participate in winning this war, and only crazy ideas. >> and so, now, likely, they would have said that we will get into the unity government and that important for the israeli public, but we don't want to see those two character involved? >> so, it is probably what is going to happen is that basically they don't trust netanyahu after the three year, and no one trust him really. i don't think in front of cnn, i should discuss this. >> and just to ghost this, these are the multiple attacks into gaza by the israeli defense forces pounding this small congested gaza strip at this point at 5:00 in the morning. as you are sitting here e hehud and you can see what is going on, what is going through your mind? >> possibly stronger, but the influence is going to be the organization to organization to come up, and they come to kill elderly and women and babies, and so collateral damage, but i am sure that every neighborhood which is attacked got an early warning and saying that hours ago to go out and whoever is operating near a head quarter or any installation of hamas should leave his place, because it is under the risk of getting out of the blue sky or gray sky. >> so for the palestinian civilian, and we have to remember that there are israeli hostages in places around gaza. and this is what hamas has said, the hostages have been placed around gaza, and so it is very, very difficult for the israeli force n forces to know where they may be, and the palestinian forces. and so there is going to be questions asked if this is commensurate with the type of attacks from hamas, and commensurate response, and we have seen a massacre on the israeli side of the border? >> we do not pretend to do the same. we suffered. we are painful. we swallow it, and we operate under the norms of advanced state, everything. every attack is going through certain examination. to the extent of target warning, and so, we are preferring hamas of the government, and the explicit aim is to strengthen the hamas, and weaken the p.l.a. and a lot of money was transferred to them, and so we feel some of the responsibility for this kind of that. >> and so now many people are saying that is an inflection point, and can we really go back to the status quo? we go through the conflicts and then a cease-fire, and then we lurch back to the same sorter to status quo and stay in business with -- >> becky, i am not sure that we can with the status quo. there is going to be certain changes that is life, and it is never, you know, the future do not repeat itself, but it resonates. >> it is good to have you, and thank you very much indeed for your perspective, ehud barack from the former defense minister here and former prime minister, and perspective here as we are looking at the pictures coming in, john, in gaza at 5:34 in the afternoon, and intense bombardment by israeli's defense forces as they continue the strike those targets. >> you can see the smoke rising up over gaza, and the former prime minister ehud barak who had thought that he had truly seen everything until what he saw the last three days in israel. the israel defense forces are saying that they are currently striking inside of lebanon. we are getting new reporting on that as israel is announcing a complete siege as the tanks are headed to the border. our cnn coverage continues after this. there is more breaking news that we need to share with you this morning. the israeli defense forces are saying that the helicopters are striking in lebanese territory, and also this morning, the military said that it had fired on what they are calling the armed suspects that were coming out of lebanon into israel. sirens are also ringing out again in jerusalem and tel aviv, and those are rockets coming from gaza, the southern border. we will go back to hadas gold in jerusalem for more on this, and when you are hearing that there are helicopter striking parts of lebanon after seeing the militants coming over according to the idf, it makes one concerned that we may be headed into some sort of regional war here, and what is the latest? >> so what we are understanding from the israeli military is that earlier today, the sirens we have been hearing for rockets coming from gaza were also heard in the north, meaning incoming from southern lebanon, and the israeli military confirming that two mortars were launched towards israel from southern lebanon, and a number of armed suspects who had infiltrated from the lebanese territory, and soldiers engaged with them, and now they are saying that a helicopter that was striking in the area, and we don't know whether it is still striking, and this is a message from the israeli military, and possible that they have stopped striking the area, and this area is concentrated right on the blue line, the border of israel and southern lebanon, but there is a major, major concern of the involvement of the hezbollah group. there is a few skirmishes and intense with the like of hezbollah, but if they are fully involved in this war, not only does it open up another front, it is going to open up another front which is varsity team compared to hamas, and gaza when it is coming to the missiles and the arms and rockets that hezbollah has in its possession. they have a much more sophisticated arsenal than hamas, and that would complicate it a little bit. and also, the military handling two fronts. this is also, a possibility to be attributed to the military group who does have a presence there, and that can give off the plausible deniability that we don't need to get hezbollah involved, but that is how potential and volatile this situation is in the north. >> we should mention that hezbollah and hamas are both backed by iran, so in whatever way you may say, they are involved in this even if it is tangentially. as we are watching this going forward, thank, you hadas gold, and there is a helicopter that has struck inside of lebanon after they have sent over missiles, and according to the idf, sent over a few people armed that they took out. that is where we are right now on the northern border to israel. the united states state department says that at least nine americans are among those killed by the terrorist attacks by hamas. an unknown number of americans were taken hostage. i want to play the israeli minister for foreign affairs. >> we don't know the exact number, because we don't know how many dead people we are in touch with, and that is going to take several more hours, but it is scores of hostages, and i don't want to get into a specific number, but they are women, children, elderly and holocaust survivors. this is sick. >> also this morning, israel's defense minister ordered a complete siege of gaza, and this is occurring as we are speaking. colonel leighton, thank you for jumping on with us, and i want to start with where the idf say they have killed armed suspects as they described it coming in from lebanon, and why is this significant and important? >> well, what it could be, kate, the opening of a second front in the war. we don't know that yet, but clearly the indications are that at the very least, this is a probing action probably from hezbollah, but we don't know that either, but regardless, what we are looking at from the military standpoint is that when people are crossing border like that, they are checking out to see what can be done, and how far to get, and in essence the reconnaissance mission, and that could prestage something else coming down the road, but we have not seen any movement from hezbollah yet, but it could be something that could happen in the next few hours or so. >> which just also proves that this is a very delicate, very tenuous situation even after what we have already seen. we are seeing is also big plumes of smoke in gaza, as the idf has been bombarding gaza right now in response to what the hamas terror attacks. what would a ground incursion into gaza look like? >> well, it would be very complex operation, kate. what it would be is that they would have to go in several points on the border between gaza and israel, and also have to be very careful, because gaza is a place that you could get lost very, very quickly, and they have to coordinate with the israeli air force, and right now, the israelis are softening up the targets around and the artillery, and the rm next step is that incursion if they want to go that far, and it is looking like they are based on what is pulling up to the border. we can expect that within the next 24 to 48 hours. >> talk to me effectively with the complexities here, and the attempt to cripple hamas while you have potentially 100 hostage s and in the urban environment that is not sounding easy in the least. >> yes, to free them, you need a lightning quick operation, and you from the entebbe raid, and so it is going to be the same type of thing multiplied ten times in order to find all of the hostages to get them out as safely as possible. so you have that going on, on the one hand, and then on the other, you have to pass fi the population and eliminate the leadership. so you have three lines of attack that you have to undergo at this particular point in time, and the ability to do that would tax any kind of military force, and the israeli force of course is under the idf, is under a great deal of pressure right now to not only perform well, but it means that the intelligence elements are going to have to be on top of the game to provide the tactical intelligence necessary for every aspect of the operation. >> and what we are looking at, everyone, as you are speaking, colonel, the live pictures of what we are seeing happen in gaza, and plumes, and big plumes of smoke, and the bombardment is continuing from the idf. and look, the question is what does this mean in this moment, around could this be a precursor to? >> it reminds me of the shock and awe phase of the iraqi freedom operation in the gulf war, and what you are seeing is the attacks that they are hitting the strategic targets, and several things going on here. it looks as if they are trying to get into different nodes and cutting the communications links, and also perhaps going after the leadership entities where they believe they have hamas people either working or living in those areas. of course, it is really difficult, because the hamas forces are interspersed themselves with the civilian pop to find the people that you are looking for as opposed to -- >> let me just jump n colonel, because the control room had the camera moved and what we are looking at is ashkelon, israel, and i wanted to have clarification if that is what we are looking at in this moment, and if that is what we are looking at, colonel, continue. >> so, yes, if that what we are looking at an israeli target, it is something that was shot from gaza from hamas into israel. if this is an israeli attack, then the dome system was taxed to respond to this. so what you are probably seeing is a force in the form of hamas that is fighting back against the israelis and trying to make it very difficult for them to advance. so this could be a very ugly situation that is developing right now, kate. what you are seeing is multiple efforts and axes of attacks from both sides, and so it is going to be a complicated picture as we move forward to find out what side is doing what. >> yes, we are trying to get more in, and the gaza border, and where it is landing, and before we report more out of it, the more reporting we are seeing, colonel, coming in, idf is saying it has attacked 130 hamas targets in gaza in just the last three hours. that is according to the statement that we have just come out using dozens of planes. >> yes, that is a heavy air campaign for this target. the air component that we had in oper operation freedom in iraq, the targets are the ones that they think will in essence decapitate hamas or coerce hamas to do something that will help the israelis to move forward in this. this is going to be a little bit of the slog here, and kate, what you are looking at here is a situation where there is going to be a lot of unknowns when it is coming to this. we will see some things happening that we don't expect. we will see some things that are happening that, you know, that would be in line with the military operation of this type, but also a lot of collateral damage. >> stick with me, colonel, because we are looking at the live pictures now looking back live into gaza. we are looking at the 130 hamas targets that israel says they have attacked in the last three hour, and also, putting in perspective t-4,000-plus rockets that were fired by hamas since saturday. give me some perspective on that. >> yes, so 130 targets compared to 4,000 rockets seems like a large disparity of numbers. we have to keep in mind that the rockets that hamas september over into israel, and most of them are fairly primitive and kind of built in garages type contraptions with a short range, and in some ways it is an advantage, because it makes defense systems like the iron dome to detect what these rockets are going for and what targets they are trying to hit, and that is going to impact their ability to go after them. when it comes to the israelis and what they are doing in gaza, it is a far more precise effort against hamas, because they are using more modern weapon systems, and the types of aircraft would include f-15s, and f-16s, and possibly f-35s as well, because the israeli forces have all three, and they are modified especially for the the israeli use, and they have variant uses as compared to our u.s. air force. what they are opting for here is something to allow them to coordinate with the forces. and you know, this is going to look absolutely like a softening up of the target, you know, to use that term, and what that means is that it is supposed to make it easier for the ground forces to come in to do what they need to do. you know, if they are successful or not, it is going to depend upon many, many factors, and always a variance of what happens with the air power, and what you will see on the ground, and that is a difficult thing for the ground forces do. >> add into this conversation now as we continue to look at the live pictures over gaza, that the united states has announced it is sending carrier battle group to the eastern mediterranean. what's the point? what's impact? talk to me about that. >> yeah, kate. so when you are bringing in a carrier like the "uss gerald f ford" it is going to alle lou the united states to be present in an area of crisis and tamp down issues to look at air controls and what that means is that our aircraft could be flying and prevent other aircraft from getting into the area or expanding the combat zone. so when that happens, that is more effective when you are dealing with two state actors, but in this particular case, we are dealing with a state actor in the form of israel, and a terrorist group in the form of hamas, which in some ways is acting like a state, because they control gaza, but they don't have the military forces that a normal state like say egypt or jordan or even lebanon would have, and that going to complicate thing, because hamas is going low-tech, and the efficacy of deploying an aircraft carrier into this environment remains to be seen. it can be effective, but we have to be cognizant of unconventional threats against the carrier battle group as it is moving into the eastern mediterranean area off of gaza, and off of israel. >> colonel leighton, thank you. thank you for walking us through what we are seeing play out live here. thank you. we have breaking news here, the israel defense forces posted on social media that they are instructing people near the israel/lebanon border to remain in their homes. that is the other end the country. so now what we have seen from israel force, they have conducted 130
