we re following breaking news out of the middle east. i m boris sanchez with brianna keilar in washington, d.c. we re seeing live pictures now out of gaza where we have been watching explosions lighting up the sky. we want to bring in anchors jake tapper anderson cooper live for us in tel aviv. we are seeing an intensification of explosions over and in the gaza city, more than we ve seen in recent days. the idf, israel defense forces v n , have not commented on what seems to be an uptick. they have not commented on their upscale of operations targeting hamas. on a day we ve been learning more about hostage negotiations with hamas and the humanitarian crisis in gaza growing dire by the day. there had been a lot of anticipation about a potential breakthrough of sorts in the hostage crisis. that, obviously, is now overshadowed by this. we don t know what the developments are on the hostage front. this would seem to suggest it s not going as desired. i mean, you wou ....

into the care of the red cross after negotiations involving qatar. they are on their way to central israel. good evening. we start with the news that the family of two hostages, being held by the group hamas for almost two weeks, had prayed for. israel confirms a mother and her daughter, who are american citizens, have been released. it follows mediation efforts by the gulf state of qatar, with hamas, designated as a terror organisation by many western governments, including the uk, saying they were freed for humanitarian reasons. around 200 hostages, are still being held in gaza, and israel s total siege of the territory, cutting off food, water and medicines, will not end, it says, until all of them are freed. emergency aid trucks with badly needed supplies to help some of the more than two million people trapped in gaza sit on the border with egypt, ready to go in. but as yet, there s no deal allowing their entry. meanwhile, israel s bombing campaign over gaza, ta ....
here s our international editorjeremy bowen. loud blast. the missile hit the hospital not long after dark. man shouts. you can hear the impact. the explosion destroyed al ahli hospital. it was already damaged from a smaller attack at the weekend. the building was flattened. shouting. very soon, video was posted from gaza of bodies laid out near the ruins of the hospital. so many dead and the size of the explosion, together looked to be having a profound impact on what was already the most dangerous crisis in the middle east in a generation. the wounded were taken across gaza city to shifa hospital. the israeli army s first response said hospitals were highly sensitive and not targets of its military and urged caution about what it called the unverified claims of a terrorist organisation. that statement will not be believed by palestinians and by millions of others in the middle east who see these images. the wounded and the dying pouring into shifa from al ahli arrived ....
