is this going to be cyclical with covid spikes every year around this time. >> i sure hope not. the trends we're seeing over the last couple of weeks are concerning. first of all, we're seeing long lines outside of our testing clinic. more demand we have seen in many months for testing because folks are getting sick. we're also seeing a doubling of hospitalizations just over the last two weeks and earlier this week, 46% of folks hospitalized for covid-19 in our hospital had opinion primarily vaccinated but not yet boosted. we're reallye ing immunity as w delta variant. we really want to get to the indemonstratic phase of this. we need folks to get not only vaccinated but poosted. what we're seeing is just not sustainable. >> what would be indemic stage look like? >> nobody really flows the exact percentage where we reach herd im[ music playing ]ty. it's been a moving target especially as we have new variants like omicron that's inif he canning folks that are previously vaccinated. what the booster penetration is now in nn nj only about 37%. it's nowhere near enough. we need to see above 70%. 75% at least if we're going to se reduction in transmission and the risk of hospitalization going down. one really concerning thing is that the imperial college of london just released a study that's questioning whether omicron is less severe. >> what do you think about this debate that is ongoing about the definition of being fully vaccinated. dr. fauci says that term could be semantics. do you think for companies, you know, or governments that are implementing vaccine mandates that they should now include mandated booster every six months? >> i don't know the federal government is looking at that question closely. i do think it needs to be addressed. to say someone is fully vaccinated implies they are max ma'amly protected and that's no longer the case. you need that booster six months and especially after a single dose of johnson & johnson. you need that booster soon two months after. you're not maximumly protected just by being fully vaccinated according to the current definition. >> right. i do want to ask you about vice president kamala harris comments to the l.a. times that the administration didn't see the delta and omicron variants coming. this is an administration that has tried to separate itself from the trump administration to show it has been on top of the pandemic and harris' team is saying she was referring to the exact kind of mutation not really the prevalence of these variants themselves. just curious to know what you think about, you don't have to dive too much into politics but how has the administration's response been and what more needs to be done? >> i think tehe covid response team has been doing a tremendous job and trying to get testing especially where places are surging we get federal assistance. we benefitted from their assistance in as much as our state has assisted as well. these variants were curve balls. the health community was not expecting it either. we were hoping we would be in a much different place had it not been for the delta variant. i think what we have to do is respond as much as possible and go from there. >> thank you so much for yourics per tease. really appreciate it. >> my pleasure. coming up, a cnn exclusive january 6th investigators believe a text pushing strategy to undermine the 2020 election came from rick perry. we'll have more on that, next. machine ♪ i see trees of green ♪ ♪ red roses too ♪ ♪ i see them bloom ♪ ♪ for me and you ♪ ♪ and i think to myself ♪ ♪ what a wonderful world ♪ a rich life is about more than just money. that's why at vanguard, you're more than just an investor, you're an owner so you can build a future for those you love. vanguard. become an owner. is struggling to manage your type 2 diabetes knocking you out of your zone?
