>> let's wait and see. >> manchin says he supports a smaller spending deal between 1 and $1.5 trillion. the crisis at chinese real estate giant is rattling the u.s. financial market. the company is struggling to manage here $300 billion in debt. beijing may have to step into help evergrande, tokyo lost more than 2% today. hong kong has been in and out of positive territory. in the u.s., the dow finished more than 600 points lower on monday since july. european market which opens last hour are trading higher. cnn's christie lou is joining us live in hong kong. what's evergrande is saying? >> the chairman of evergrande is saying we'll walk out of the darkness. that was evident on monday when we saw global markets. a performance by the s&p and the nasdaq logging the worst performance since may. the dow logging its worst performance since july, prompted the white house issuing a statement they were monitoring the market and insisting evergrande business were overwhelmingly based in china. >> the company has encountered unprecedent ds difficulties. really that has done little to pass investors. evergrande is saddled with $300 billion in debt that have been struggling to pay off. analysts we have been talking here do believe and they believe beijing will step in and will intervene and not to bail out evergrande but work out a way to soften the blow. take a listen to this. >> i anticipate beijing to step in even though without a bail out but they'll engineer some sort of restruction so it will look like a soft landing. >> that continues to stoke investors. >> christie lu stout, many thanks. the u.s. have hit another staggering milestone in the coronavirus. more than 675,000 people have now died from covid-19 since the pandemic began. for some perspective on that, that's greater than the entire population of las vegas. and it surpasses the country's estimated death toll from the 1918 flu pandemic. some encouraging news from pfizer which says trial data shows its vaccine is safe and effective for kids as young as five. it plans to ask the u.s. and european officials for authorization as soon as possible. dr. anthony fauci tells cnn is welcome news for millions of anxious parents. >> parents are very concerned of children of that age group, particularly those who are going into elementary age range. we want to make sure we thoroughly protecting them. now they themselves if the fda gives the approval can be protected by their own vaccinations. >> u.s. officials are on edge after possible case of the mysterious illness known as havana syndrome. sources familiar with the matter tells us a member of the cia team reported symptoms on a trip to india. cnn has the details from new york. >> reporter: when cia director bill brynes trafrveled to india this month, a member of his team reported symptoms of savannah syndrome. the director said to be fuming with anger. a cia spokesperson says they don't comment on specific incident or on specific officers but did say there are protocols in place for when this incident are reported and including medical attention. i am told in this case, this person did receive medical attention. there are some very severe implications potentially at play here. that's because the cia director's schedule is never widely shared. it's held closely among only a few u.s. government officials so there are questions within the u.s. government about how people would have known the cia director was traveling to india and how the perpetrator can plan this aggression. the u.s. government have not yet said what they believe behind these mysterious incidents or illnesses or how it's being carried out but both of those things are investigated by officials and led by the biden administration at this time. >> cnn, new york. >> and just into cnn, a coup attempt in sudan has been foiled according to several sources from the sunni government. 40 officers were arrested after they tried to take over the state broadcaster tv building. we'll keep you updated with any new developments that come to us. up next, here on cnn newsroom. new 911 audio from the investigation into the death of 22-year-old gabby petito as police continue this search for her fiance. the u.s. is sending hundred asylum seekers home. they are still waiting to be processed in texas. details on the crisis of the u.s./mexico border. that's ahead. at usaa, we've been called too exclusive. because we were created for officers. but as we've evolved with the military, we've grown to serve all who've honorably served. no matter their rank, or when they were in. a marine just out of basic, or a petty officer from '73. and even his kids. and their kids. usaa is made for all who've honorably served and their families. are we still exclusive? >> the gentleman slapped her. >> she was lapping her? >> yes, and they drove off. >> police let the couple go without charges and now investigators are coming over new potential clues and tips as they keep searching for petito's fiance, brian laundry whose whereabouts are unknown. athena jones has the latest. >> reporter: >> reporter: a massive search fof for the fiance of gabby petito. fbi carrying out a search warrant and questioning laundry's parents who have said they have not seen him since tuesday when he left with a backpack saying he's going to a near by carleton nature reserve. authorities are planning to conduct of the autopsy of the body found over the weekend believed to be petito. she went misising ago while on across country trip with laundry. >> human remains were discovered. full identification have not been completed 100% that we found gabby but her family has been notified of this discovery. >> reporter: petito's father tweeted this picture of his daughter with the message "she touched the world." >> we came across a white van that had florida plates. >> reporter: youtube blogger posted a new video of the van that petito and laundry was traveling in. the same area where the body was found. the van was completely dark and there was nobody there. >> the van looked like it was pretty much kind of abandoned. >> reporter: laundry returned alone on september 1st in the white van. petito's family reported her missing ten days later. >> reporter: laundry had not talk to investigators. >> there is an enormous amount of pressure i am sure on him to provide apps and what's going on here. >> reporter: with the likely discovery of petito's body, more questions questioning around laundry. >> we are driving by and i would like to report a domestic dispute with a white van, florida license plate. >> reporter: the pair engaged in an altercation. >> we are just driving and he would not let me go into the car. >>. >> reporter: law enforcement are not saying if anything had todd do with petito's ultimate fate. athena jones reporting there. a texas doctor claims to violated the state's six week abortion ban is facing two lawsuits. the man who filed the lawsuit say they opposed the new law with one saying he wants the judge to rule on its constitutionalty. the attorney for dr. braid says her clients feel he had been called to challenge the law which went into effect this month. >> reporter: with the texas law in place, he's having to turn most of his patients away. the options he has are unattendable. you are needing to travel out of state which many can't do even if for them to leave the state financially. he feels as a doctor who's been providing care for years that it's important to challenge this unconstitutional law that's creating havoc healthcare in texas. the u.s. homeland security department is working to process my dpig migrants. officials say around 3,000 migrants were moved from del rio, texas, to other processing locations on monday. there are still more than 10,000 migrants under the del rio international bridge. u.s. border agents on horse back aggressively confronting some of those migmigrants. the chief calls the footage troubling and says the issues will be investigated. rosa flores has the details. >> reporter: >> questions about this video appears to show border patrol agents confronting refugees aggressively on the rio grande. >> i don't think anyone seeing that footage would think it's acceptable. >> reporter: 150 miles west of s san antonio is also raising eye brows. >> have you seen anything like this before? >> reporter: thousands of migrants living in make-shift huts and sleeping in the dirt and waiting for their turn. >> reporter: a site mayorkas witnessed today. >> if you come to the united states illegally, you will be returned. your journey will not be succeed and you will be endangering your life and your family's life. >> reporter: cnn rode along with the texas department of public safety. >> we are here at one of the, this is the main area they were crossing. >> reporter: our first stop, cnn's camera capturing migrants crossing freely days earlier. >> reporter: they were crossing from this dam. that's mexico and you can see the flag flying. >> reporter: know the flow has stopped. the sea of texas state troopers help secure the river. moments later we see the shocking scene under the del rio international bridge. thousands of migrants mostly haitians living in squallers like james tillis says he left his home country in chile in 2015. >> reporter: he said someone assaulted him in haiti and shot at his aunt. two months ago they started the track to the united states. >> reporter: are you saying the route is open to enter the united states, what does it mean? family and friends he says. the border is open? >> yes. >> reporter: tillis' voice breaks as he talks about his family. because you are suffering. food is hard to come by and the weather is tough to bare. >> reporter: if you look closely, you will see these are men and women and children and i see pregnant women and infants. >> reporter: a surge of 600 agents and officer and other personnel. why del rio and why now? >> it's a sigh of relief here in the u.k. and europe. finally people will be allowed to travel to the states. it looks simple, you take a test three days before you travel to the united states you take another test three or five days before you arrive. it does not have to be expensive pcr test. you need to be fully vaccinated and the u.s. will accept vaccinations that are given out here. the w.h.o., whatever they approve is fine. wearing a mask on the plane to travel. you can travel to the states. this is really for all those people wanting to visit friends and family but also it has been a benefit of a transit lead. the fact that americans can travel to europe now and get back on a plane and get back to the united states and no quarantine, it felt a little bit unfair and fairly logical. anna, thank you so much for uni joining us. idaho is coping for a rapidly covid crisis. the state is putting pressure on hospital and neighboring washington state and health officials say vaccine misinformation is largely to blame. cnn's dan simon broke to the brother of a nurse who died of covid after refusing to get vaccinated. >> he works as a truck driver. >> reporter: their mother died last week from covid-19. >> that is they were giving her the sedation, her heart just let go. >> reporter: natalie was only 46. tell me what she did for a living? >> registered nourse and she di home healthcare. she went around and helped people. >> reporter: which made her firm vaccination stance more p puzzling. >> reporter: healthcare leaders face a challenge of nearly 30% of their own ranks as of july still had not been vaccinated. as cases and hospitalizations remain high in idaho, one official says there is only one word to describe the current situation. >> awful. we are in the worst state than ever in the pandemic. >> reporter: things are so dire. the state authorized hospitals the right to ration treatment. it comes as the state has no mask mandates. protesters holding ralelies lik this one in march. in washington state there is a mask mandate and hospitals like spokane are filling up with patients in idaho. >> how did they take it? >> reporter: he says he's happy to serve the nation but there are a lot of people and a lot of corruption. it a lot of money zr and a lot of shake downs. >> reporter: you get a feeling that people are being cautious about the taliban. at the same time they're out on the streets and they are trading and doing business. so it feels like it's settling down but it's uneasy feeling of which way it's going to go. >> reporter: this gold trader tells me no corruption, i can leave work after dark. >> how is the situation here now? >> the situation is very good. >> life is good now. >> reporter: with the taliban within earshot, is hard to know for sure how people really feel but despite their presence, several brave women approaches. >> reporter: this woman tells me she's a widow with six children. the taliban fired her from a government job and sent her home without pay. and as we talk, another woman comes forward. >> >> reporter: also out of work. she's been paid for next month but has no idea what happens after that. >> it's up to her to choose whether help be firm and respected or force full or fear by the taliban. he says for now no plans to cut thieves' hands off like before. which way he'll tip? a bell weather for the country. nic roberston, cnn, kabul in afghanistan. >> re cnn has more in the situation and more in dealing with the massive fire. >> good morning, rosemary, we see september and october where fire activity really picks up intensity and unfortunately parts of at least 12 states such as 71 large fires across the united states. at this hour, the, the elements are in place yet for if fire activities to ramp up. we get an offshore components and certainly the winds will pick up as a result. that's the concern. fires could spread over the next several days and as a result of excessive heat. heat advisories are a little further in the south. the water here among the driest on record. it starts october 1st until september 30th. 9 9.9 inches observed across the six areas. that's the lowest ever observed in previous record. we talked about fire activities picking up. that's critical. whether it's northern or southern california, the conditions are going to remain very dangerous here but little containment and windy fire and zero containment at this hour and the proximity of the national forest, caldor fire only 72% containment. slow progression in the last couple of days there. level four is in place. widespread activities along the western united states, natural resource commitment is considered very high as well. this is all until advance of peak fire season, rosemary, in the next several weeks. send it back to you. >> appreciate it. donald trump was vocal about his refusal to accept his election loss, coming up a new book details just how far the former president's team went to get lawmakers to back his everies. joe biden is more than eight months into his presidency and donald trump is still trying to get the election results overturned. he sent a letter to georgia's secretary of state asking him to de decertify the results. georgia's election officials counted the votes three times and mr. biden is still the winner. a criminal investigation into trump's efforts to overturn georgia's results is underway. >> he's been leaning into and propagating the big lie and fund raising off this issue. he'll be here in georgia. you have to ask him what his motivations were. we looked at every single allegations that's been made and we want to make sure that we have true and accurate results. people said there were thousands of dead people voted, it was less than a handful. they told us under age voting. there were zero. we are sure we are thoughtful and thorough in our responses. president trump came up short in georgia. >> more details are emerging on how much pressure he puts on his vice president to stop the certification of the electoral college votes. a conservative loyal working with trump's legal team tried to convince mike pence to throw out electors from seven states. pence would not go along but trump kept pursuing other tactics. brian todd reports. >> it's not a singular voter fraud in one state. >> rudy giuliani and trump's legal team could not even convince two of trump's closest allies that the 2021 election results were fraud. rudy giuliani sent documents which rudy giuliani believes proved his theory. the claims were so flimsy that graham did not buy them. that's according to the new book by woodward and acosta. graham publicly packed trump. he came to the conclusion that rudy giuliani's argument were suitable for third grade. >> graham was one of president trump's top allies on capitol hill. one of the senators he was most close with, daily conversations over the phone. frequent visits to mar-a-lago. if he could not convince him then there was not going to be convincing anyone. >> reporter: woodward and costa wrote that trump's teams also tried to convince another loyalist. cer but that lead did not buy that legal argument. after publicly backing trump's efforts, graham and lee voted to certify the election results. on the night of january 6th in the wake of the attack graham voiced his frustration with trump's efforts to counter the results. >> awesomll i can say is count out. enough is enough. i tried to be helpful. >> reporter: the coauthor are defending the action of general mark milley that they reported on that milley was so concerned of trump's mental state in the final day of his presidency that the general called his counter partner twice to assure that the u.s. will not attack china. >> that's treason. i had so many calls today saying that's treason. >> reporter: woodward and costa tells abc that they believe general milley's action were not tre treasonous. >> he talked to the marine corp. air force and says full-time. rewatch everything and he cancelled operations that the chinese may see as concerning. >> milley's communication were completely appropriate. trump labeling him as t treasonous. and brian todd, cnn, washington. i am rosemary church, "early start" is up next, have yourself a wonderful day. walter, twelve o' clock. get em boy!
