the first time donald trump takes the stage. the u.s. vaccination effort is about to get a big boost thanks to the clearance of a third vaccine. johnson&johnson now has authorization from the food and drug administration. two more steps before shots can start going into the arms, the cdc's vaccine committee will make guidelines on who should get it and the agency directs and give the final sign on. the single dose is not the only advantage of johnson&johnson vaccine. why else this is such a big deal? >> reporter: a third coronavirus vaccine will be available as soon as next week now that the food and drug administration authorized johnson & johnson's authorization use. >> it is highly effective preventing coronavirus. >> reporter: it requires no complex refrigeration and only one dose. the company is ready to begin shipping doses as early as sunday. >> having effective vaccine will help protect more people faster. >> reporter: more people are eager to get one. a kaiser family foundation found 55% of surveyed adults in the u.s. either have one vaccine dose or eager to get one. that's up from early december when only a third of adults surveyed one of the vaccines. >> vaccination sites like this one outside of atlanta are feeling the effect. this afternoon they're seeing all the people who's scheduled second dose of appointments were cancelled caused by severe weather. >> i think i was shaken because i was like oh my god i can go get it. >> i think i was the youngest one. wait, we don't know what to do yet. >> reporter: the number of kcass and deaths and hospitalizations continue to stay lower than the holiday peak. >> we have variants that are in play, we must address these. >> reporter: the lifting of covid-19 restrictions of many states. south carolina will lift restrictions on mass gatherings starting on monday. sn >> reality is not over yet. we have to do whatever we can to slow down this virus. >> reporter: more and more groups of people are becoming eligible to get the vaccine depending on the states. in georgia we'll start to see teachers join the group eligible to get appointments for the vaccine, cnn, atlanta. joe biden is welcoming the edition of john mson & johnson' vaccine. he released a statement saying "thangs to the briehl yens of our scientists, the resilience of our people." there is light at the end of the tunnel but we can't let our guard down. we must continue to remain vigilant. donald trump will return to the political stage at the conservative action conference in florida. we could get a glimpse of the role he may play in the republican party moving forward whether he's setting himself up to run for president again or perhaps to act as some sort of king-maker. he's continuing influence on the party is clear. speaker of the speaker took up his favorite theme looking to appeal to his base. >> let me tell you who's the least republican party today. very new republicans, the least popular of the ones we raised are donald trump and donald trump supporters. >> now trump's supporters are in high spirits. make america great again hats are everywhere. cnn's donny sullivan. >> reporter: former president trump is expected to give his first speech since leaving office here in florida on sunday. 24 hours before that is to take place, supporters of the former president were gathered here. we spoke to some of them today. >> what do you hope to happen tomorrow? >> it will be good to see him in person and out in public again. we all need it and the energy. we feed off each other. he feeds off our energy and we feed off from him. >> reporter: what did you think of the republicans that voted to impeach trump? >> i think it is going to be a rehash of his twitter feed for the last few months. he's been unable to express himself on social media, this is his coming out party. it is going to feel like one long twitter thread. i have to say that the country is exhausted. the fact that the republicans are allowing donald trump to continue to be ahead of the party after being a twice impeached failed president is remarkable. i don't think we have seen anything like it. >> you took the words out of my mouth. you got a one term president lost the house and the nate and lost the popular vote twice, twice impeached. why this continued -- why continue to this man? >> it is really a strange phenomenon. it resembles a colt. i have been saying it for years. the personality colt that donald trump built over the last few years is unlike anything we have seen in politics. republican leaders who know better, the mccarthys and mcconnells, lindsey graham and ted cruz and josh hawley, they know that donald trump is a menace. however they continue to pledge their guilty, the republican base are still incredibly loyal to donald trump. they recognize this. when you are an elected official, your single goal is to b reelected or you lose power. they continue to sell their souls because they want to stay in power and placate a base that's followers of donald trump. >> is it fair to say that core trump's basis not enough to win elections and may swing a republican primary but is trumpism big enough to win actual seats. >> i think it depends on which types of seats? if we are talking about national election, presidency, absolutely not. when you are talking about congressional democratic, pos possibly. we have seen qanon conspiracy theories and marjorie greene gotten elected. nationally no, the republican party will be marginalized as a right wing extremist. it is a shame because it is a party that i worked for, for 20 years. that's the heart and soul of our democracy and he attacked that and the republicans allowed him to do it. of course we have the insurrection on january 6th that literally caused lives and republicans had every opportunity to off ramp with donald trump and they still chose him despite what happened, the deadly insurrection on our capitol. it is shameful. >> yeah, you know really is clear from what we heard and a good size portion of this party publicly and if i don't believe it is okay, still believe the lies that the election was stolen. >> you love your party, it is not the party of reagan and lincoln anymore. had the extremist wing of the gop grown too big for the party realistically confront and normalizing and strengthen that element. what's the danger of that? >> well, the danger of that,s what we saw on january 6th is whipping up a crowd of people to commit a domestic terrorist act and chanting things like "hang the vice president." we have never seen anything like that. it is very dangerous of that type of rhetoric. that's the danger of this. these people are no longer -- or liberal democracy. they become some type of ill lib liberal authoritarianism. why i walked away from it. it is very difficult. negative partisanship is a powerful tool. that's all we have seen from republicans, they're not interested in governing. they're interested being a party of no and a party of sedition and that's unsustainable. >> always a pleasure to get you on tara. thank you so much. >> police are cracking down more on protests at myanmar, we'll have the latest coming up and we'll look at what vaccine makers are doing to make sure children are not left behind. why some say kids won't get coronavirus shots until next year. this looks different. it is. epic hi-res photos. and 8k video, cinema quality. this is different. told you. the harry's razor is not the same our razors have 5 german-engineered blades designed to stay sharp so you can enjoy lasting comfort and we never upcharge you for high quality harry's. available in store and at harrys.com ♪ ♪ (grunts when swinging) and we never upcharge you for hi♪ ♪quality pnc bank believes that if you can get a pair of goggles that helps with your backhand... yeah! ...then you should be able to get a bank account that helps with your budget.
