SPRINGFIELD — Half of Illinois’ corn crop is now in the field.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Illinois Crop Progress and Condition report, corn planted in Illinois reached 54 percent on Sunday. That compares to the five-year average of 49 percent.
Corn emerged reached 14 percent, compared to the five-year average of 13 percent.
Soybeans planted as of Sunday was 41 percent, compared to the five-year average of 14 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 7 percent, compared to the five-year average of 1 percent.
Winter wheat headed was 21 percent statewide, according to the report. That compared to the five-year average of 28 percent. The winter wheat’s condition was rated as 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
