According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Illinois Crop Progress and Condition report, corn planted in Illinois reached 54 percent on Sunday. That compares to the five-year average of 49 percent. Corn emerged reached 14 percent, compared to the five-year average of 13 percent. Soybeans planted as of Sunday was 41 percent, compared to the five-year average of 14 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 7 percent, compared to the five-year average of 1 percent. Winter wheat headed was 21 percent statewide, according to the report. That compared to the five-year average of 28 percent. The winter wheat’s condition was rated as 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
