earlier this week, the hacking group, shinyhunters, said it had hacked the personal details of more than half a billion ticketmaster customers. with me is our business reporter simon browning. iamjust i am just staggered, it is 500 million ticketmaster customers. you sate perfectly- _ million ticketmaster customers. 7m. sate perfectly. this million ticketmaster customers. 7m, sate perfectly. this is a massive attack. a significant, significant and a huge hike. firstly, ticketmaster, a company we know all around the world if like festivals, concerts, comedians, it is likely you have used ticketmaster's platforms to book tickets to go to those events. millions of customers, millions have signed up, millions have given over their data. it was first reported on thursday when hackers said they had hacked ticketmaster but there was no confirmation of that but this morning in a filing in the us in the security and exchange commission, the owners of ticketmaster indicated there had been malicious forces involved and a cyber attack. we are still waiting for some more details from ticketmaster as it stands but earlier this week, 560 million ticketmaster customers had their data and information obtained by a company called shinyhunters, they said they obtained ticketmaster's data. that includes names, addresses, phone numbers and from what we understand, partial credit cards. shinyhunters say they have demanded £500,000 ransom to prevent the data from being sold on to other platforms but that is still to be worked out. santander, as you say, a banking group, operating around the world said yesterday they had been involved in a hack with the same company and some of their customers and colleagues had had information hacked in chile, spain and uruguay. the company shinyhunters have also been accused of hacking in other places previously, at and t in the uk and pizza hut in australia for some it is significant, ticketmaster a massive platform here in the uk. has been taking place in eight northern and eastern states in the middle of a severe heatwave. at least 30 people have died of heat stroke. water and fans to cool voters have been provided at some polling stations. india's huge population make this election quite staggering in scale, let's take a look at some of the numbers involved. some 969 million people were eligible to vote — that's more than the populations of the us, russia, japan, britain, brazil and france. that includes 13.4 million indian citizens who live abroad, but will need to have registered and returned to india. nearly 1.5 million polling booths were set up across the country, including some unusual locations like mountain tops and forests. they will elect 543 mps in the polls which has run in seven phases over six weeks. results are on the 4th ofjune. let's speak to our south asia correspondent samira hussain. some era, you have been covering all of these time with this voting taking place and some of it under very difficult conditions but we are now in those final hours. —— samira indeed, we are in the final few hours and you can really get a sense if you're watching local media, there are lots of countdown clocks going on on televisions because it has been such a lengthy election campaign as you rightly pointed out. spending over six weeks —— spanning, and we are talking about almost 970 million eligible voters will stop to pull off an election of this size, it takes an incredible number of people to be able to do it. the one thing about this election which we should keep in mind is the kind of soaring temperatures that parts of the country have been experiencing. we are seeing temperatures of almost 50 degrees in some places, we saw that over the last few days there have been quite a number of deaths due to heat stroke. in one state we saw that ten polling workers also died due to heat —related illnesses and so they are making quite a lot of precautions at polling stations and you see a lot of people going in to vote very early in the morning and then there is a low and then in the evening to try and beat that afternoon heat. 50. the evening to try and beat that happens afterwards, how is narendra modi, how confident do you think and arranger modi's party do you think and arranger modi's .a j , , . ., , do you think and arranger modi's .a j , , , , party iswell, because polling is still . oin . party iswell, because polling is still going on. _ party iswell, because polling is still going on, there _ party iswell, because polling is still going on, there are - party iswell, because polling is still going on, there are some | party iswell, because polling is - still going on, there are some very strict rules about what we can and cannot talk about. what we can say, though, is voting will end in about 1.5 hours and when it does, about 30 minutes later we are expecting to start to see exit polls and though we haven't seen exit polls to date. these exit polls, though, are done ljy these exit polls, though, are done by specific organisations and so you have to take those results with a grain of salt but those might start showing kinds of indications of where the voters have been going. in terms of actual results, we don't get that until the 11th ofjune, that is when all that counting takes place and because we are using these electronic voting machines, the counting should actually happen pretty quickly so by the middle of the afternoon on the 11th ofjune, which is tuesday, we should get a much clearer indication of who will be prime minister and just how strong a mandate that person will have. * .. . strong a mandate that person will have. * ., , ., strong a mandate that person will have. * ., y., strong a mandate that person will have. * ., i. ., have. and samira, when you look at the issues that _ have. and samira, when you look at the issues that people _ have. and samira, when you look at the issues that people are _ have. and samira, when you look at the issues that people are voting . the issues that people are voting on, just give us a snapshot of what has really been motivating people to go out to vote?— go out to vote? look, in terms of what are the _ go out to vote? look, in terms of what are the issues _ go out to vote? look, in terms of what are the issues that - go out to vote? look, in terms of what are the issues that really i what are the issues that really matter to people, a lot of it has been the economy. first, there is a real crisis of unemployment amongst the young people, particularly young, educated men. that is one issue that has really come out strong and then of course price rises, inflation. we have seen it across the globe. in terms of what is motivating people to get to the polling booths, that are still varies. what is interesting is you have seen this real sort of question about where the economy is going but whether or not that is a motivating factor enough to get to the polls is something different. even earlier today, we saw that prime minister narendra modi had tweeted to try and encourage people to go out and vote, especially young people, and women, and we also saw that his main rival, head of the indian national congress, also took to social media urging people to go out and vote and also thanking those who have already cast their ballot under these extreme heat conditions. just touch u on that extreme heat conditions. just touch upon that a — extreme heat conditions. just touch upon that a little _ extreme heat conditions. just touch upon that a little bit _ extreme heat conditions. just touch upon that a little bit because - extreme heat conditions. just touch upon that a little bit because we - upon that a little bit because we have been seeing people suffer a lot and of course tragically people have lost their lives due to these heat conditions. we saw that people were being offered water and fans were being offered water and fans were being handed out, just in terms of how this election on such a huge scale was organised, would it, reflecting back on it, look like a success given that these temperatures are just uncontrollable? i temperatures are 'ust uncontrollable? ~' ., uncontrollable? i think when we are lookin: at uncontrollable? i think when we are looking at the _ uncontrollable? i think when we are looking at the figures _ uncontrollable? i think when we are looking at the figures in _ uncontrollable? i think when we are looking at the figures in terms - uncontrollable? i think when we are looking at the figures in terms of. looking at the figures in terms of percentages of people that were coming out to vote in these stages, i think we have seen some ebbs and flows and really actually in the last two phases, we have seen the lowest percentage of voter turnout overall and there are some people that are attributing part of that to the extreme heat temperatures. again, none of this will be completely clear until you get all of the polling data from each constituency and everything really is going to be coming out once polling ends. but there are certainly a lot of concerns about having held the selections in some of the hottest months in india. indeed, samira, as always, thank you so much for covering all the different twists and turns of this mammoth election. the indian election. 0ur south asia correspondent samira hussain joining us live from delhi. thank you so much and we will hear much more from samira when we get those results. as samira when we get those results. as samira was saying, expected on tuesday the 11th ofjune. here in the uk, after a week of campaigning, which saw several key battle lines drawn ahead of the general election onjuly the 4th, all parties are out again this weekend vying for support. let's speak to our political correspondent, damian grammaticas was there at labour event. angela rayner driving off to essex, what have they promised? what angela rayner driving off to essex, what have they promised? what they were promising _ what have they promised? what they were promising was _ what have they promised? what they were promising was that _ what have they promised? what they were promising was that this - what have they promised? what they were promising was that this bus - what have they promised? what they were promising was that this bus is l were promising was that this bus is going to spend the next few weeks, 4.5, five weeks driving 5000 kilometres with one message, labour says, its core message of this campaign which is it is time for a change. they say, the choice sir keir starmer was saying on the platform here a little earlier, he puts it in him terms, a simple one between continuing with the conservatives, more chaos and division, he says, or change but in order to deliver stability under labour. the labour party's message is the conservatives have broken britain, that they would reinvest and reenergise things. the difficulty he has is that both big parties have committed to very tight policies, sticking to current tax policies, sticking to current tax policies which gives them very little room for spending down the line so how does labour then deliver that change? well, without having committed to big spending, what he was pointing to today was work plan, he to reform the way the government helps people get into work and find jobs, that would reform the employment service, the job centre service, the careers service and a promise to young people. so, he says it is all about changing attitudes. the difficulty he has is the criticism when people say, well, this is waffle not welfare reform. this is a talk but not backed up by resources. * this is a talk but not backed up by resources. ~ ., this is a talk but not backed up by resources-— this is a talk but not backed up by resources. ~ ., ., resources. and damian, we saw also with battle bus, he also took the opportunity there to attack the labour party for its handling over the veteran labour mp diane abbott. has that been put to rest or is that still going to be ongoing and politically a problem for sir keir starmer?— for sir keir starmer? interesting, es, that for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes. that the _ for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes, that the prime _ for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes, that the prime minister - for sir keir starmer? interesting, l yes, that the prime minister chose to weigh in on that. this has been a sort of running sore for the labour party, a problem for the labour leadership all week. it goes back a year, one of labour's longest serving mps, theirfirst ever year, one of labour's longest serving mps, their first ever black woman elected to parliament. she served in her constituency in london for, what, 37 years. questions about, she was suspended last year, about, she was suspended last year, a row about comments she had made then restored this week. questions about would she be installed as the candidate again, that whole row, yes, has attracted a bit from labour's messaging this week from top sir keir starmer when questioned about it here didn't want to go there and what he wanted to say was that it was his job now to focus on that it was his job now to focus on that core set of questions. he was questioned about it quite a lot so it is still hanging over, i think labour's cope is that things are kind of going to move on now that buses on the way, things might be back on the road. but, it is absolutely what you get in any election campaign, this issue is one of those examples, problems crop up, issues crop up, things are unexpected that divert the campaigns into byways that they don't want to get sent down and that is going to keep happening. find get sent down and that is going to keep happening-— keep happening. and the other criticism that _ keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi _ keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi sunak- keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi sunak had l keep happening. and the other| criticism that rishi sunak had of the labour party would be that they were, as he said, a soft touch on migration. did the labour party leader touch upon that this morning? he did very briefly. not in response to that criticism because this is another issue that is rumbling along. prime minister rishi sunak is making this a central issue, he thinks there is an issue that is quite high in people's mines but what the labour leader's position on it is and one that he has repeated many times and did again here, he said the prime minister's policy of setting up flights to try to deport asylum seekers so that they are dealt with by rwanda in rwanda, he described that again as £600 million policy that has delivered nothing, not a single asylum seeker has been deported under it yet. he said that as an expensive gimmick, what he would focus on is a plan that is different which is to revamp the way that the border security is governed or overseen by police and intelligence services. so cracking down on the criminals and gangs that operate the trade, bringing people across the english channel in small boats and that is what he says the focus should be. interesting again, if you like, if you compare that draw parallels between that and the workplan he is talking about today, again you look at them both, they are organisational changes to reshape the focus of policy, things that money would go into but is much more about changing the direction of things than spending large amounts of money. things than spending large amounts of mone . ., .,, things than spending large amounts ofmone. ., ., ~ of money. damian, as always, thank ou so of money. damian, as always, thank you so much- _ of money. damian, as always, thank you so much. damian _ of money. damian, as always, thank you so much. damian responses to a peace plan intended to lead to a permanent ceasefire in gaza. the israeli proposal was unveiled by president biden at the white house. he said it was a three—part plan that would begin with a six—week ceasefire in which the israeli forces would withdrawn from populated areas of gaza. there would also be a surge of humanitarian aid as well as an exchange of some hostages for palestinian prisoners. the president said it was "time for this war to end" hamas issued a statement saying it was ready to deal positively with any proposal offering a permanent ceasefire and a complete israeli withdrawal. hamas issued a statement saying it was ready to negotiate with any deal including israeli withdrawal. the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said the plan was in line with israel's demands that the war would not end until its hostages were released and hamas no longer ruled gaza or posed a military threat. israel's opposition leader yair lapid also urged mr netanyahu to heed to the deal and offered to support the government if any far—right ministers reject it. our first report this hour is from vincent mcaviney. after almost eight months of israeli response to the 7th 0ctober attacks by hamas, gaza lays largely in ruins, with the lives of palestinians who call it home turned upside down. more than 36,000 have been killed across the region, according to the hamas—run health ministry. hundreds of thousands are displaced and aid is struggling to reach them. the conflict has put the us—israel relationship under immense pressure. but in a surprise move, president biden unveiled a new peace proposal and ceasefire offer from israel. i know there are those in israel who will not agree with this plan and will call for the war to continue indefinitely. some — some are even in the government coalition. and they've made it clear they want to occupy gaza. they want to keep fighting for years. and the hostages are not a priority to them. well, i've urged the leadership in israel to stand behind this deal, despite whatever pressure comes. president biden outlined a three—phase proposal that would begin with an immediate six—week ceasefire. at the same time, israeli forces would carry out a withdrawal from gaza. israeli hostages in gaza would be exchanged for palestinian prisoners, and 600 trucks of humanitarian aid would be delivered there each day. in the second phase, hamas and israel would negotiate a permanent end to hostilities. the final phase would include a major reconstruction operation in gaza with international support. among those urging hamas to get on board was foreign secretary david cameron, posting on social media: "let's seize this moment and bring this conflict to an end. for president biden, resolving the conflict has become a political imperative ahead of elections in five months' time. he's been losing the support of some younger voters and muslim voters. both have been vocal in their dissatisfaction at events in gaza. for palestinians in gaza, if hamas agrees to this deal, it will be the start of a long road to rebuild some semblance of the lives they once had. vincent mcaviney, bbc news. the uk's prime minister rishi sunak hasjust been commenting on the peace proposal, here's what he said. it is very welcome news and i hope hamas take this opportunity to conclude the deal that is on the table which will ensure the hostages can be released and be back with theirfamilies. that we can flood gaza with far more aid than has been getting in to alleviate the suffering people are experiencing, and then use that pause in the fighting to build a sustainable and lasting peace, which is what we all want to see. so, again, i hope hamas take the opportunity that is on the table to bring an end to the conflict. the uk prime minister who was in yorkshire a little bit earlier on also commenting on that peace proposal that has been outlined by joe biden. lots there is some flash photography in the following pictures. mr zelensky will address the shangri la meeting on sunday. earlier, the us defence secretary lloyd austin told the forum that the indo—pacific region remained a main focus for washington. mr austin also rejected accusations by china that the us wanted to build an asia—pacific version of nato, to maintain its dominance in the region. the ukrainian leader arriving there for that conference in singapore. in the united states... president biden has said it is dangerous for people to question the integrity of the guilty verdict in donald trump's hush moneyjury trial. he said the former president had been given every opportunity to defend himself. mr trump has said he will appeal against his criminal conviction. 0ur north america correspondent, john sudworth reports from new york. in the gold—trimmed grandeur of trump tower, its owner set out his vision for an election campaign based on the politics of personal grievance. thanks very much, everybody. we had a conflicted judge. highly conflicted. there's never been a more conflicted judge. so i'm the leading person for president and i'm under a gag order by a man that can't put two sentences together. but he's a very big danger to our country. and the only way they think they can win this election is by doing exactly what they're doing right now — win it in the courts because they can't win it at the ballot box. the accusation is without foundation. mr trump's guilty verdicts were delivered on the evidence by 12 jurors, finding that he'd falsified records to hide hush money payments to the porn star stormy daniels to keep her claim that they had had sex from us voters. hi, everyone. in his first comments on the verdict, president biden described mr trump's attacks on the court, the judge and the system as a whole, as dangerous. it's irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don't like the verdict. 0urjustice system has endured for nearly 250 years. and it literally is the cornerstone of america. but minds are already made up — americans are now a people talking past each other across a deep political divide. there's no doubting the seismic significance of having a convicted felon as republican candidate for president. but the political implications are harder to discern. 0n the one hand, it might put some voters off. 0n the other, mr trump will do everything he can to use it for his advantage. the former president claimed that, in the few hours since the verdict was delivered, he had already raised almost $40 million in campaignfunds. john sudworth, bbc news, new york. from the united states i want to bring you to the united kingdom because some images have emerged that have arguably broke on the internet or taking the internet by storm. this is scott whitehouse in his driveway in derbyshire here in the uk. he's taken the internet by storm after displaying these nifty football skills that were captured on a home security camera. they are doing the rounds, just look at his surprise, i love that! why would he ever doubt himself because mike what a legend, talent! scott of whitehouse from derbyshire. lots more on our website but from me and the team here on bbc news, thanks very much. hello again. it's been a fine start to the weekend so far. today, of course, is the 1st ofjune, the start of meteorological summer, and the weekend will see some summer—like weather for many of us. it's been a lovely start here in somerset — from one of our weather watchers with some blue skies. there is some patchy cloud floating around out there and it will continue to do so into the afternoon. the possibility of one or two showers around parts of aberdeenshire, perhaps northern england and across wales, but those will be really very isolated. for most, staying dry. bit of a northerly wind there still across the eastern coast of england, making it feel a bit on the cool side at times. temperatures 15 or 16 celsius. highest temperatures to be found in the west with highs of 19, 20, even 21 celsius. now, through tonight, we'll see some cloud across the far south—east. cloud also thickening in northern ireland and across scotland, but clear skies elsewhere. it could turn quite chilly in the countryside — temperatures perhaps down to five or six celsius. but sunday morning starting off on a largely fine note for most of us. this area of high pressure dominating the weather at the moment. we have got some cloud, though, coming over the top of that, some rain, a weather front starting to move its way in, and that will bring more cloud across scotland and northern across scotland and northern ireland. a few spots of rain likely here as well. some sunny spells there towards eastern and southern scotland and across england and wales, although there will be some high level cloud moving southward, making the sunshine turn a little bit hazy from time to time. still pleasant enough, though, and still warm for many of us, especially, actually, towards southern and eastern areas compared to today. temperatures potentially 22 or 23 celsius. now, into next week, high pressure will slowly drift away. we've got a weather front moving its way southward so during monday cloud and some patches of light rain and drizzle moving its way southward across many areas. the sunshine, though, returning across scotland, the far north of england. temperatures still about 17 to 20, 21 celsius. a little bit warmer in north—eastern areas. elsewhere a tad cooler, and we'll continue to see that cooling off slightly throughout the week. colder air moving its way in from the north—west as we go through tuesday and into wednesday. it will turn a bit more unsettled as the week goes on — some showers or some outbreaks of rain at times. but still temperatures in northern parts of 14, 15 celsius. with the sunshine across england and wales, at times temperatures 17—20 celsius, so still feeling very pleasant. bye— bye. this is bbc news, the headlines: israel and hamas have given broadly positive responses to a new peace proposal that would lead to a permanent ceasefire in gaza. the three—part plan would begin with a six—week ceasefire, with the israel defense forces withdrawing from populated areas of gaza. the deal could eventually lead to a permanent "cessation of hostilities". the electoral campaign in the uk enters its second week. the prime minister rishi sunak is heading to north—east england with a pledge to give 30 towns across the uk £20 million each. the labour party has launched a 5,000 mile battle bus tour while vowing that if they win the election, its main mission will be to create wealth. and ahead of the 80th anniversary of the d—day landings, the bbc has spoken to three women who were children at the time of liberation. we will return to the election campaign here in the uk.

they had hacked ticketmaster but there was no confirmation of that but this morning in a filing in the us in the security and exchange commission, the owners of ticketmaster indicated there had been malicious forces involved and a cyber attack. we are still waiting for some more details from ticketmaster as it stands but earlier this week, 560 million ticketmaster customers had their data and information obtained by a company called shinyhunters, they said they obtained ticketmaster's data. that includes names, addresses, phone numbers and from what we understand, partial credit cards. shinyhunters say they have demanded £500,000 ransom to prevent the data from being sold on to other platforms but that is still to be worked out. santander, as you say, a banking group, operating around the world said yesterday they had been involved in a hack with the same company and some of their customers and colleagues had had information hacked in chile, spain and uruguay. the company has been taking place in eight northern and eastern states in the middle of a severe heatwave. at least 30 people have died of heat stroke. water and fans to cool voters have been provided at some polling stations. india's huge population make this election quite staggering in scale, let's take a look at some of the numbers involved. some 969 million people were eligible to vote — that's more than the populations of the us, russia, japan, britain, brazil and france. that includes 13.4 million indian citizens who live abroad, but will need to have registered and returned to india. nearly 1.5 million polling booths were set up across the country, including some unusual locations like mountain tops and forests. they will elect 543 mps in the polls which has run in seven phases over six weeks. results are on the 4th ofjune. let's speak to our south asia correspondent samira hussain. some era, you have been covering all of these time with this voting taking place and some of it under very difficult conditions but we are now in those final hours. 50. the evening to try and beat that afternoon heat.— afternoon heat. so, difficult conditions _ afternoon heat. so, difficult conditions but _ afternoon heat. so, difficult conditions but we _ afternoon heat. so, difficult conditions but we are - afternoon heat. so, difficult. conditions but we are coming, afternoon heat. so, difficult- conditions but we are coming, as you were saying, into those final hours of polling. what happens afterwards, how is narendra modi, how confident do you think and arranger modi's party do you think and arranger modi's .a j , , . ., , do you think and arranger modi's .a j , , , , party iswell, because polling is still . oin . party iswell, because polling is still going on. ~ ., ., resources. and damian, we saw also with rishi sunak _ resources. and damian, we saw also with rishi sunak unveiling _ resources. and damian, we saw also with rishi sunak unveiling the - with rishi sunak unveiling the conservative party battle bus, he also took the opportunity there to attack the labour party for its handling over the veteran labour mp diane abbott. has that been put to rest or is that still going to be ongoing and politically a problem for sir keir starmer?— for sir keir starmer? interesting, es, that for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes. that the _ for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes, that the prime _ for sir keir starmer? interesting, yes, that the prime minister - for sir keir starmer? interesting, l yes, that the prime minister chose to weigh in on that. this has been a sort of running sore for the labour party, a problem for the labour leadership all week. it goes back a year, one of labour's longest serving mps, theirfirst ever year, one of labour's longest serving mps, their first ever black woman elected to parliament. she served in her constituency in london for, what, 37 years. questions about, she was suspended last year, about, she was suspended last year, a row about comments she had made then restored this week. questions about would she be installed as the candidate again, that whole row, yes, has attracted a bit from labour's messaging this week from top sir keir starmer when questioned about it here didn't want to go there and what he wanted to say was that it was his job now to focus on that it was his job now to focus on that core set of questions. he was questioned about it quite a lot so it is still hanging over, i think labour's cope is that things are kind of going to move on now that buses on the way, things might be back on the road. but, it is absolutely what you get in any election campaign, this issue is one of those examples, problems crop up, issues crop up, things are unexpected that divert the campaigns into byways that they don't want to get sent down and that is going to keep happening. find get sent down and that is going to keep happening-— keep happening. and the other criticism that _ keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi _ keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi sunak- keep happening. and the other criticism that rishi sunak had l keep happening. and the other| criticism that rishi sunak had of the labour party would be that they were, as he said, a soft touch on migration. did the labour party leader touch upon that this morning? he did very briefly. not in response to that criticism because this is another issue that is rumbling along. prime minister rishi sunak is making this a central issue, he thinks there is an issue that is quite high in people's mines but what the labour leader's position on it is and one that he has repeated many times and did again here, he said the prime minister's policy of setting up flights to try to deport asylum seekers so that they are dealt with by rwanda in rwanda, he described that again as £600 million policy that has delivered nothing, not a single asylum seeker has been deported under it yet. he said that as an expensive gimmick, what he would focus on is a plan that is different which is to revamp the way that the border security is governed or overseen by police and intelligence services. so cracking down on the criminals and gangs that operate the trade, bringing people across the english channel in small boats and that is what he says the focus should be. interesting again, if you like, if you compare that draw parallels between that and the workplan he is talking about today, again you look at them both, they are organisational changes to reshape the focus of policy, things that money would go into but is much more about changing the direction of things than spending large amounts of money. things than spending large amounts of mone . ., .,, things than spending large amounts ofmone. ., ., ~ of money. damian, as always, thank ou so of money. damian, as always, thank you so much- _ of money. damian, as always, thank you so much. damian _ of money. damian, as always, thank you so much. damian grammaticas i you so much. damian grammaticas there where the labour party was unveiling its battle bus which has now left to essex. much more from damian with the labour party, also jess parker is with the conservative party and we have lots more on our website as well. if you would like to get more detail on the uk election. to the middle east — both israel and hamas have made broadly positive responses to a peace plan intended to lead to a permanent ceasefire in gaza. the israeli proposal was unveiled by president biden at the white house. he said it was a three—part plan that would begin with a six—week ceasefire in which the israeli forces would withdrawn from populated areas of gaza. there would also be a surge of humanitarian aid as well as an exchange of some hostages for palestinian prisoners. the president said it was "time for this war to end" hamas issued a statement saying it was ready to deal positively with any proposal offering a permanent ceasefire and a complete israeli withdrawal. hamas issued a statement saying it was ready to negotiate with any deal including israeli withdrawal. the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said the plan was in line with israel's demands that the war would not end until its hostages were released and hamas no longer ruled gaza or posed a military threat. israel's opposition leader yair lapid also urged mr netanyahu to heed to the deal and offered to support the government if any far—right ministers reject it. our first report this hour is from vincent mcaviney. after almost eight months of israeli response to the 7th 0ctober attacks by hamas, gaza lays largely in ruins, with the lives of palestinians who call it home turned upside down. more than 36,000 have been killed across the region, according to the hamas—run health ministry. hundreds of thousands are displaced and aid is struggling to reach them. the conflict has put the us—israel relationship under immense pressure. but in a surprise move, president biden unveiled a new peace proposal and ceasefire offer from israel. i know there are those in israel who will not agree with this plan and will call for the war to continue indefinitely. some — some are even in the government coalition. and they've made it clear they want to occupy gaza. they want to keep fighting for years. and the hostages are not a priority to them. well, i've urged the leadership in israel to stand behind this deal, despite whatever pressure comes. president biden outlined a three—phase proposal that would begin with an immediate six—week ceasefire. at the same time, israeli forces would carry out a withdrawal from gaza. israeli hostages in gaza would be exchanged for palestinian prisoners, and 600 trucks of humanitarian aid would be delivered there each day. in the second phase, hamas and israel would negotiate a permanent end to hostilities. the final phase would include a major reconstruction operation in gaza with international support. among those urging hamas to get on board was foreign secretary david cameron, posting on social media: "let's seize this moment and bring this conflict to an end. for president biden, resolving the conflict has become a political imperative ahead of elections in five months' time. he's been losing the support of some younger voters and muslim voters. both have been vocal in their dissatisfaction at events in gaza. for palestinians in gaza, if hamas agrees to this deal, it will be the start of a long road to rebuild some semblance of the lives they once had. vincent mcaviney, bbc news. the uk's prime minister rishi sunak hasjust been commenting on the peace proposal, here's what he said. it is very welcome news and i hope hamas take this opportunity to conclude the deal that is on the table which will ensure the hostages can be released and be back with theirfamilies. that we can flood gaza with far more aid than has been getting in to alleviate the suffering people are experiencing, and then use that pause in the fighting to build a sustainable and lasting peace, which is what we all want to see. so, again, i hope hamas take the opportunity that is on the table to bring an end to the conflict. the uk prime minister who was in yorkshire a little bit earlier on also commenting on that peace proposal that has been outlined by joe biden. lots there is some flash photography in the following pictures. mr zelensky will address the shangri la meeting on sunday. earlier, the us defence secretary lloyd austin told the forum that the indo—pacific region remained a main focus for washington. mr austin also rejected accusations by china that the us wanted to build an asia—pacific version of nato, to maintain its dominance in the region. the ukrainian leader arriving there for that conference in singapore. in the united states... president biden has said it is dangerous for people to question the integrity of the guilty verdict in donald trump's hush moneyjury trial. he said the former president had been given every opportunity to defend himself. mr trump has said he will appeal against his criminal conviction.
