australia all—rounder mitchell marsh heads home from the cricket world cup for personal reasons. and a new survey shows why women's exercise suffers as the nights draw in. welcome along to the programme. the pressure is on, but erik ten hag insists he's still the man to lead manchester united after their latest loss. the defending champions were knocked out of the league cup by newcastle at old trafford, making it now eight defeats in 15 games so far this season. ten hag accepts they're in a bad place but says it's his responsibility and he will fight on. it is below the standards you would expect with manchester united. it is not good enough by far. we have to put things right. i take the responsibility for it. it's my team and they're not performing, so i am responsible. let's talk now tojoe smith of the stretford paddock, a manchester united youtube channel. where do you think the patience levels are at the moment for fans with erik ten hag?— levels are at the moment for under previous managers, i do feel as though we are starting to see a little bit more support, a little bit of fatigue with this idea that you just sack one can get anyone in. we are starting to realise that there are so many more problems at this club and just the manager. he may not even be one of the top ten problems at the club, he may not even be a problem. if this was under other managers he would start to see a lot of people really saying, he's done, his time is up, can't continue. a lot of fans are getting to the point where we think, ok, say that he sacked him, then what? i think he should certainly get to the end of the season after what he did last year, proving us and taking us from a team that we are absolutely woeful to one that consistently beat top teams and and they'll be facing a side without all—rounder mitchell marsh, who's flown home for personal reasons. no details have been given. marsh has played in all six of australia's matches so far, scoring 225 runs and taking two wickets. mitch has flown home last night. he's got a family issue going on. like we all know, family is very important, the most important really. so he's doing the right thing, going home and seeing the people he needs to see. and then i don't think there is a time coward timeframe for when he's coming back but am sure he will do what he needs to do. he sent a message last night saying, i'll be home for a little bit then i'm coming back to win this world cup. india can book their place in the semi finals of the cricket world cup today — if they beat sri lanka. india were put into bat and posted an imposing total of 357 for eight off their 50 overs, shubman gill top scoring with 92. and sri lanka's reply has started badly, they lost three wickets in the space of the first 11 balls — they're currently 2—3. another has since fallen, actually, so they are currently 7—4. england's women have made five changes for their final rugby union wxv game against new zealand in auckland on saturday, with tatyana heard and rosie galligan returning to the line—up. they'll be led by captain marlie packer, who'll win her 99th cap. and packer is one of two england players nominated for world rugby player of the year — she and abby dow have made the shortlist, along with france's gabrielle vernier and new zealand captain ruahei demant. the winner will be announced after the game on saturday. rugby referee wayne barnes has announced his retirement, five days after he took charge of the rugby world cup final. he said that over the past 20 years, he had been in the middle of some of the greatest rugby matches in history, but it was the right time to step down for him and his family. he also said he'd be working with the match officials' association to ensure there was a support network to deal with the online abuse and threats that had become a regular occurence. he and his wife have spoken out about the issue in the past. more than half of women are concerned for their personal safety when exercising outdoors during winter months. that's the finding of a new survey by sport england, who are now calling for more to be done to help make the streets safer. this week a group of women organised a run through london to raise awareness of the issue, as matt graveling reports. step—by—step, mile by mile. running as a group, stronger and safer together. new research shows that as nights get longer, many women feel their chance to be active outside gets shorter. while team sports are played in groups, often on well lit pitches, for individual sports like running, there is a fear that reduced light also means reduced safety. it may make you feel less safe, but to be honest you don't, whether that is through the people on the streets, not enough lighting, so you are kind of having to have eyes in the back of your head. just to make sure that you... no—one is going to creep up on you. as the clocks went back, the evening rush—hour is now done in darkness, but alongside those heading home, a group of female runners gathered to shed light on the issue winter can bring. if you ask any female runner, they would say much the same. i think getting catcalled, getting beeped at when you are running, it certainly can be quite scary if you are by yourself. but it definitely becomes harder, especially this time of year. there's lots of things we have to think about that perhaps might not even cross your mind, like thinking which route you are going to do, letting someone know where you are going. this five kilometre run was organised by sport england's this girl can campaign, with those taking part wearing shirts expressing feelings they have had while keeping fit after dark. words that include scared, cautious, frustrated, vulnerable, nervous and fearful. this topic was discussed in parliament last month, with a number of possible solutions explored. i think there is something about how we are educating those boys, so that they feel that they are able to communicate with girls in a different way. how we plan our public spaces as well, because often the way we plan our parks and public spaces does not maybe support girls to get active as well, so thinking about everything from the lens of someone who might feel more vulnerable and understanding how we can use that space in a way that encourages them more. in a national survey of 1000 women, sport england found 60% of those asked were worried about the risk of sexual harassment or intimidation as it starts to get dark earlier. this was a contributing factor towards almost half of women asked saying they don't like to keep it outdoors after dark and as a result, more than one quarter of those surveyed said this leaves them feeling sad or frustrated. i have run past women giving police reports after being sexually assaulted, that was really confronting. but it is just sad that when these things happen, my brain is thinking this is normal, or, that is happening again. as opposed to that is not ok for someone to objectify me in that sense. matt graveling, bbc news. before we go, a reminder of our top story. manchester united manager erik ten hag insists he can turn around the club's fortunes, despite their second 3—0 home defeat in a row — last night, their league cup title defence was ended by newcastle. there's more on the bbc sport website and app. from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. watching bbc news. let's return to our ongoing coverage of storm ciaran — a major incident has been declared across parts of the south coast of england and the channel islands as the weather system brings heavy rain and strong winds of more than 100 mph to areas already under flood and red "danger to life" warnings. more than 300 schools have been forced to close, as well as several airports. our correspondent meghan owen is in st aubin injersey with the latest. ijust want i just want to show you one of the main routes to the west of the island, this isjust a perfect example of the damage the storm has caused. you can see lots of big trees which have fallen overnight into the road, making it really difficult for vehicles to get few. a few are attempting but as the advice remains to stay at home, it is a lot quieter than usual. we can see here just someone trying to get through there. what we'll also see is some of the trains blocked, you can see behind me the water piling up there because of leaves, that is a big concern, that xperi is perhaps flooding in the islands. we have seen that in the last few months on jersey as well. so this is really about the clear up operation now. we had winds of around 102 mph this morning at 5am. had winds of around 102 mph this morning at sam. the peak of the storm has passed and the weather has died down, but what we are seeing now is the fallout. dozens of islanders being evacuated, road blockages in the island is still at a standstill, really. schools are closed, they could still be closed tomorrow, a decision has yet to be made. we have also got hospitals that are closed and people are being asked to stay at home. so this is really a question of the fallout and what happens next. we know thatjersey was one of the worst hit areas by the storm and we've had some more video in from the channel island. the footage has been shared with the bbc by a resident in the parish of st clement and as you can see shows the destruction left in ciaran*s wake. sharon mackie marquer says she stepped outside her home to see that her garden wall and fence had blown down and tiles had been stripped from her roof. we've been seeing reports from across the island of windows being smashed and roof damaged by the winds which gusted over 100 miles per hour. earlier i spoke to andrew gilham, the national operations manager at the environment agency, about the picture across the uk. it's quite a wet and wild morning out there, as you've been discussing with your viewers. certainly, the winds have been the focus, think, for much of the news and the damage that we've seen. our priority has been, our concern has been,
