campaign against hamas could last several months. the idf says the next stage — a widely anticipated ground offensive — would happen soon. now let's focus on the business news and today the international atomic energy agency completes a visit to take and assess marine samples near the fukushima daiichi nuclear power station. since a 2011 tsunami, which severely damaged the fukushima nuclear plant, more than a million tonnes of treated waste water has accumulated there. japan began discharging it in august, in a process that will take 30 years to complete. despite environmental concerns the iaea endorsed the release plan but some countries from the region, notably china, have raised concerns. china has said it would ban alljapanese seafood imports. last year, it imported $571 million worth of seafood from japan. russia last week also suspended seafood trade. so are the bans likely to continue and how much could it harm japan's economy and trade relations? joining me perception that could be contaminated while it is not, and if it is contaminated there will be a problem and that would involve the whole world rather than just the region of fukushima. we shall see what happens later. good to get your take on it. now to argentina where surprise results in its presidential election means weeks of uncertainty at a difficult time for the economy. as you've been hearing the economy minister, sergio massa has topped the poll in a surprise first—round victory. mr massa serves in the peronist left—wing government of president alberto fernandez who did not seek candidates that have not making it to the run—off on the javier milei side, he might be able to ride the pro president sentiment into the pro—change of sentiment and we will need more time to see which way the scales will tilt. if javier which way the scales will tilt. ifjavier milei were to win and he has radical ideas, getting rid of the central bank and replacing the argentinian pacer with look. let's look at the electronics giants, massa which builds millions of iphones for apple. the electronics giant foxconn, which builds millions of iphones along with a range of other devices, is under investigation in china. authorities are carrying out on site investigations in multiple locations the company operates in, according to chinese state media. live now tojoao da silva in our candidate in the taiwan presidential election in a few months and since he announced his intention to run a lot has been said about how his business interests could make him vulnerable to political pressure from beijing. he will be running as an independent, but he occupies a political space that is not too dissimilar from the space that is not too dissimilarfrom the main opposition and is regarded as more pro—china, so critics of the candidacy said that by running he could be undermining the unity of the opposition, dilating its vote and in that way helping the less friendly, china israel and the united states promise a "continued flow" of desperately needed supplies. fourteen aid trucks crossed the rafah border from egypt into gaza on sunday night, according to the united nations. the day before, a convoy carrying medicines and food were allowed in — for the first time since israel tightened its blockade of the territory more than two weeks ago. microsoft, alphabet, meta — these tech companies will be under scrutiny when they announce earnings this week. our business reporter katie silver tells us what to look out for. it's a bumper week for tech earnings, a sector hit hard with lay—offs and government regulation earlier this year but seems to be for the most part bouncing back. it's notjust how they did in the previous quarter, investors are looking at what companies say about what is coming next. on tuesday, microsoft will report its earnings for the third quarter, a company that often beats expectations. microsoft managed to get its huge acquisition of the video game publisher activision blizzard which makes kandy krush over the line. getting hard won approval from the regulators. and that is the good news, but microsoft might also have to pay almost $30 billion to settle a tax bill. alphabet also reports tuesday. last quarter their earnings outperformed the other tech stocks. investors like that and saw the company shares jump. this time around people will look to how google cloud and google search and youtube ad revenue did, and more detail on how the ai bot bard can take on chat gpt which microsoft has a huge investment in. on wednesday, meta, the company behind facebook and whatsapp reports, facing competition from the likes of telegram, meta announced it would roll out broadcast channels allowing users to broadcast messages on facebook and messenger. on thursday, the south korean chip giant sk hynex is one of the worlds largest makers of memory chips and has had a really tough couple of quarters, like its larger rival samsung. that's because of an ongoing global over—supply of chips has caused prices to drop, but it will be interesting to hear how ai is driving demand for its high—end chips. similar results expected on the same day for intel. investors say we might see a double digit drop and it's been hit by a slump in the pc and smartphone industry. and finally on thursday, it is online retail behemoth, amazon, with shares up almost 50% and expectations for the results are high. the company's cloud computing arm is getting a boost by the move towards ai but amazon is facing huge legal battle, a landmark anti—trust lawsuit in the united states. now there's been growing speculation this weekend over what measures might feature in the upcomig autumn statement by the british chancellorjeremy hunt. that's one of two key moment events in the treasury calendar and it's coming up next month. one plan under consideration is to provide fresh help for first—time home buyers, including government under—writing some of the loan risk. the chancellor is is also reportedly considering a new individual savings account, or isa, to encourage potential buyers to save for their first home. and on sunday another cabinet minister suggested tax cuts may be on the way if the government's inflation target is met by the end of the year. live now to shanti kelemen, chief investment officer at m&g wealth. lovely to see you again. we would expect this. an election is not far off and the autumn statement is next month and of course the chancellor will want to be seen to be giving things away, won't he? this to be seen to be giving things away, won't he?— away, won't he? as always, cominu away, won't he? as always, coming on _ away, won't he? as always, coming on to _ away, won't he? as always, coming up to an _ away, won't he? as always, coming up to an election . away, won't he? as always, | coming up to an election it's about how you can get votes and make people feel that they understand your problems. i think the interesting thing was that, we had over the weekend about access being on the table if inflation falls and the reason that makes sense is the uk has one of the highest stocks of debt linked to inflation and about a quarter of debt, so when inflation stays high or goes up, the amount of debt payments the government has to make goes up so if you see inflation fall a bit, that would take some of the debt interest off the list of expensive that would make it available for other things. government borrowing in september was lower than most economists expected and is still high and the treasury does feel it has wriggle room, but the question is what the chancellor will decide to do and who will benefit? irate chancellor will decide to do and who will benefit? we have a month left _ and who will benefit? we have a month left for _ and who will benefit? we have a month left for speculation - and who will benefit? we have a month left for speculation and i month left for speculation and that's not until november and a lot of the stuff you mention about first—time buyers and changing those ice allowances, a lot of them would be particularly costly in the help to buy scheme wasn't used by a huge amount of people but it probably didn't matter for those who did access it. the key sector to look at, if they go ahead, that would be home—builders because they benefit with more people able to purchase the homes in the stock and in terms of eyesight, there's a number of them today and lifetime rises which are available which help people save for a first home or retirement and we have to see if some of them are combined or simplified because there's a lot of different wrappers people can use out there. thank ou ve people can use out there. thank you very much- _ people can use out there. thank you very much. climate - people can use out there. thank| you very much. climate concerns are forcing businesses to change the way they operate. leaders need to be mindful of the impact their business has on the environment and society and it means making decisions that are not only profitable but also sustainable in the long term. niklas adalberth, co—founder of klarna says despite the success of the buy now pay later app, he realised the business he created was not contributing to society. he says the future is in the hands of impact entrepreneurs and set up the norrsken foundation to nurture impact companies with the potential to scale. businesses that could perhaps become "impact unicorns" making a difference to billions of people. when i started klarna, my goal in life was to build a unicorn. a company valued $1 billion, and we were very lucky. we achieved this a couple of years into it and became financially independent. i went to las vegas to celebrate. first class tickets. marbled, big luxurious, suite, champagne. did i become more happy? no. quite the opposite. i felt a profound feeling of emptiness and meaninglessness. and i also started crashing in that hotel room. i started to reflect on the company i created. klarna, a buy now pay later product. is that making the world into a better place and this embedded growth obligation in society, what does that actually do to the biosphere? so i decided to leave klarna to instead start the norrsken foundation that aims to put the spotlight and capital on impact entrepreneurs. because if we can enable these kinds of businesses into becoming the next role models, this will be so much better for humanity. so how do you find these impact companies? what are you looking for? right. so we have today about a billion close to $1,000,000,000 under management. we've done about 120 different impact investments and we have three different ecosystems, or hubs in stockholm, in barcelona and in rwanda, kigali as well. and today, if you are an entrepreneur or startup founder, you actually do care much more about not only making money and creating a unicorn, you actually do care about creating a positive impact. so we find them. they find us. of course, your foundation is looking to support those kind of businesses, but how important are they? how critical are they to solving some of the challenges in the world we face at the moment? well, i think they are critical. if you look at companies that we backed, for example, northvolt creating the world's greenest batteries for the car industry and electrical airplanes. i mean, if we don't get these innovations, how can then governments regulate what we cannot do, these negative externalities? so we need to get these innovations up and we need them to scale. another example is, for example, ion ride, creating an electrical autonomous truck, replacing combustion engines on the streets. and to what extent do you support these companies and when do they come off your support, as it were? so we have five different funds investing all the way from the very start, and we followed them on to a quite late stage. and i think all companies today, it's very critical with investments and getting backing, of course. so we tried to do that in the initial steps, but then of course later on is other institutions taking them forward. you mentioned the cities. you've got hubs in barcelona, kigali and stockholm. why those cities? well, that's a good question. so this is just the start. and we believe that if you look at stockholm, what we've done there, you now see 38 times as many impact startups in stockholm, sweden as the world average. and if we can enable this in many, many more cities through partnerships that i think can have a good impact on humanity. there are so many companies that we hear about here at the bbc who are making a difference when it comes to climate. what in particular are you looking for in terms of your support? well, we look across all the 17 sustainability development goals set up by the united nations. and as it happens now, i think about 80% of the entrepreneurs we've been invested into, 120 plus companies have been around climate. this is a very hot topic, obviously. and going back again to i think a lot of these startup founders also realized that this is an incredible business opportunity. the founder of the norrsken foundation and what he's doing with it and his hopes for change. let's show you guys as a new day begins, nearly eight o'clock in the morning and as we have mentioned, a second convoy of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid has crossed into gaza on sunday evening. very important, vital elements on these trucks, fuel. not fuel, food and water, they are desperately needing food. we can show you the north of israel near the border with lebanon on as the big day begins, you can see traffic on the move and much concern about this border area and what might happen in terms of the next stage in the conflict. i will be back with the latest at the top of the hour. hello. we've got a window of slightly drier, quieterweather at the moment as storm babet has cleared away. but there are still plenty of flood warnings in force, particularly through central parts of england. now, monday will see quite a chilly morning, even some icy stretches, but a largely dry day for many of us once again. now for the rest of the overnight period, the early hours of monday morning, we have got some rain sitting out to the west here. but for most of us, clear skies, some mist and some fog patches and temperatures even in our towns and cities close to freezing in the north. could be a bit colder than that in the countryside. so certainly a little bit of ice on any untreated surfaces for parts of scotland and northern england too. now through the day, we've got low pressure trying to squeeze its way in from the west. high pressure, though, holding on, a ridge of high pressure across the near continent. so that's how we start the day largely dry under that area of high pressure. mist and fog patches through the central swathe of the uk. a little bit icy in the north at first. any icy stretches, any mist and fog clear away. so some long spells of sunshine, a few more showers into northern ireland, perhaps into cornwall, the isles of scilly as well. most other places seeing a dry day with some sunshine, 11 to 16 degrees. but the cloud increases in the south later in the afternoon ahead of this area of rain that pushes in across parts of england. wales also seeing some rain as we head through the overnight period into tuesday. so not quite as cold. certainly temperatures for some of us remaining in double figures as we move through into tuesday morning. now, tuesday's weather dominated by this area of low pressure. it is the remnants of a storm named bernard by the portuguese met service. so it's brought some pretty wet and windy weather further south across europe. by the time it reaches our shores, i think on tuesday, we're going to be seeing some showery outbreaks of rain. could be a bit more persistent for the likes of lincolnshire, the wash, norfolk as well. either side of that sunny spells, perhaps one or two showers around, but not the persistent heavy rain that we've seen. and temperatures between about 11 to 16 degrees. so fairly typical of the time of year. now heading towards the middle of the week, and wednesday brings a weather front in from the atlantic. so some stronger winds and more persistent rain possible for the south west of england, wales, perhaps northern ireland later in the day. to the north and east of that, again, sunny spells and a few showers around — 10 to 16 degrees. so certainly not completely dry and things are looking quite autumnal and unsettled really through the week ahead. so more rain at times, but we're not expecting the heavy, disruptive rain that we saw during the course of last week with storm babet. bye— bye. good morning. welcome to breakfast with ben thompson and sally nugent. our headlines today... a second aid convoy enters gaza, as rishi sunakjoins other western leaders in calling on israel to respect international humanitarian law. as air strikes continue overnight, there's a warning from the israeli defence minister. translation: before hamas makes contact with our tanks, _ and our infantry, they will know the shells from our air force. more flood warnings for england, as water levels continue to rise following storm babet. landlines are going digital, as the uk phone network gets a massive overhaul. the old analogue system will be switched off by 2025, with handsets using broadband connections instead. i'll explain exactly what it means for you. good morning. aston villa are two points off the top of the premier league. it's after an 11th consecutive home victory. they beat west ham convincingly and are in the runinng for a place in europe. good morning. a chilly start to the day with the risk of ice on untreated surfaces in the north. after mist and fog clears, largely dry with sunshine. we do have rain coming in from the west and later from the south. all the details throughout the morning programme. it's monday 23rd october.

campaign against hamas could last several months. the idf says the next stage — a widely anticipated ground offensive — would happen soon. now let's focus on the business news and today the international atomic energy agency completes a visit to take and assess marine samples near the fukushima daiichi nuclear power station. since a 2011 tsunami, which severely damaged the fukushima nuclear plant, more than a million tonnes of treated waste water has accumulated there. japan began discharging it in august, in a process that will take 30 years to complete. despite environmental concerns the iaea endorsed the release plan but some countries from the region, notably china, have raised concerns. china has said it would ban alljapanese seafood imports. last year, it imported $571 million worth of seafood from japan. russia last week also suspended seafood trade. so are the bans likely to continue and how much could it harm japan's economy and trade relations? joining me now is professor seijiro takeshita from the university of shizuoka. what do we expect the agency to discover or decide, do we think? i discover or decide, do we think? ~' discover or decide, do we politically easy to increase votes by bashing japan and even they have backed off because it's so un—scientific. so what the chinese authorities are doing is retaliate on japan, and particularly with perception that could be contaminated while it is not, and if it is contaminated there will be a problem and that would involve the whole world rather than just the region of fukushima. we shall see what happens later. good to get your take on it. now to argentina where surprise results in its presidential election means weeks of uncertainty at a difficult time for the economy. as you've been hearing the economy minister, sergio massa has topped the poll in a surprise first—round victory. mr massa serves in the peronist left—wing government of president alberto fernandez who did not seek re—election. mr massa will face the libertarian candidate javier milei in a runoff vote next month who was expected to emerge as the star in this presidential race. so what now? mariano machado is candidates that have not making it to the run—off on the javier milei side, he might be able to ride the pro president sentiment into the pro—change of sentiment and we will need more time to see which way the scales will tilt. if javier which way the scales will tilt. ifjavier milei were to win and he has radical ideas, getting rid of the central bank and replacing the argentinian pacer with is going on in argentina and i was going on in argentina and i was going to say i was tweeting the story of the bbc and analysis, and it is out there on social media but on the website, so do take a look. let's look at the electronics giants, massa which builds millions of iphones for apple. the electronics giant foxconn, which builds millions of iphones along with a range of other devices, is under investigation in china. authorities are carrying out on site investigations in multiple locations the company operates in, according to chinese state media. live now tojoao da silva in our candidate in the taiwan presidential election in a few months and since he announced his intention to run a lot has been said about how his business interests could make him vulnerable to political pressure from beijing. he will be running as an independent, but he occupies a political space that is not too dissimilar from the space that is not too dissimilarfrom the main opposition and is regarded as more pro—china, so critics of the candidacy said that by running he could be undermining the unity of the opposition, dilating its vote and in that way helping the less friendly, china israel and the united states promise a "continued flow" of desperately needed supplies. fourteen aid trucks crossed the rafah border from egypt into gaza on sunday night, according to the united nations. the day before, a convoy carrying medicines and food were allowed in — for the first time since israel tightened its blockade of the territory more than two weeks ago. microsoft, alphabet, meta — these tech companies will be under scrutiny when they announce earnings this week. our business reporter katie silver tells us what to look out for. it's a bumper week for tech earnings, a sector hit hard with lay—offs and government regulation earlier this year but seems to be for the most part bouncing back. it's notjust how they did in the previous quarter, investors are looking at what companies say about what is coming next. on tuesday, microsoft will report its earnings for the third quarter, a company that often beats expectations. microsoft managed to get its huge acquisition of the video game publisher activision blizzard which makes kandy krush over the line. getting hard won approval from the regulators. and that is the good news, but microsoft might also have to pay almost $30 billion to settle a tax bill. alphabet also reports tuesday. last quarter their earnings outperformed the other tech stocks. investors like that and saw the company shares jump. this time around people will look to how google cloud and google search and youtube ad revenue did, and more detail on how the ai bot bard can take on chat gpt which microsoft has a huge investment in. on wednesday, meta, the company behind facebook and whatsapp reports, facing competition from the likes of telegram, meta announced it would roll out broadcast channels allowing users to broadcast messages on facebook and messenger. on thursday, the south korean chip giant sk hynex is one of the worlds largest makers of memory chips and has had a really tough couple of quarters, like its larger rival samsung. that's because of an ongoing global over—supply of chips has caused prices to drop, but it will be interesting to hear how ai is driving demand for its high—end chips. similar results expected on the same day for intel. investors say we might see a double digit drop and it's been hit by a slump in the pc and smartphone industry. and finally on thursday, it is online retail behemoth, amazon, with shares up almost 50% and expectations for the results are high. the company's cloud computing arm is getting a boost by the move towards ai but amazon is facing huge legal battle, a landmark anti—trust lawsuit in the united states. now there's been growing speculation this weekend over what measures might feature in the upcomig autumn statement by the british chancellorjeremy hunt. that's one of two key moment events in the treasury calendar and it's coming up next month. one plan under consideration is to provide fresh help for first—time home buyers, including government under—writing some of the loan risk. the chancellor is is also reportedly considering a new individual savings account, or isa, to encourage potential buyers to save for their first home. and on sunday another cabinet minister suggested tax cuts may be on the way if the government's inflation target is met by the end of the year. live now to shanti kelemen, chief investment officer at m&g wealth. lovely to see you again. we would expect this. an election is not far off and the autumn statement is next month and of course the chancellor will want to be seen to be giving things away, won't he? this to be seen to be giving things away, won't he?— away, won't he? as always, cominu away, won't he? as always, coming on _ away, won't he? as always, coming on to _ away, won't he? as always, coming up to an _ away, won't he? as always, coming up to an election . away, won't he? as always, | coming up to an election it's about how you can get votes and make people feel that they understand your problems. i think the interesting thing was that, we had over the weekend about access being on the table if inflation falls and the reason that makes sense is the uk has one of the highest stocks of debt linked to inflation and about a quarter of debt, so when inflation stays high or goes up, the amount of debt payments the government has to make goes up so if you see inflation fall a bit, that would take some of the debt interest off the list of expensive that would make it available for other things. government borrowing in september was lower than most economists expected and is still high and the treasury does feel it has wriggle room, but the question is what the chancellor will decide to do and who will benefit? irate chancellor will decide to do and who will benefit? we have a month left _ and who will benefit? we have a month left for _ and who will benefit? we have a month left for speculation - and who will benefit? we have a month left for speculation and i month left for speculation and that's not until november and a lot of the stuff you mention about first—time buyers and changing those ice allowances, a lot of them would be particularly costly in the help to buy scheme wasn't used by a huge amount of people but it probably didn't matter for those who did access it. the key sector to look at, if they go ahead, that would be home—builders because they benefit with more people able to purchase the homes in the stock and in terms of eyesight, there's a number of them today and lifetime rises which are available which help people save for a first home or retirement and we have to see if some of them are combined or simplified because there's a lot of different wrappers people can use out there. thank ou ve people can use out there. thank you very much- _ people can use out there. thank you very much. climate - people can use out there. thank| you very much. climate concerns are forcing businesses to change the way they operate. leaders need to be mindful of the impact their business has on the environment and society and it means making decisions that are not only profitable but also sustainable in the long term. niklas adalberth, co—founder of klarna says despite the success of the buy now pay later app, he realised the business he created was not contributing to society. he says the future is in the hands of impact entrepreneurs and set up the norrsken foundation to nurture impact companies with the potential to scale. businesses that could perhaps become "impact unicorns" making a difference to billions of people. when i started klarna, my goal in life was to build a unicorn. a company valued $1 billion, and we were very lucky. we achieved this a couple of years into it and became financially independent. i went to las vegas to celebrate. first class tickets. marbled, big luxurious, suite, champagne. did i become more happy? no. quite the opposite. i felt a profound feeling of emptiness and meaninglessness. and i also started crashing in that hotel room. i started to reflect on the company i created. klarna, a buy now pay later product. is that making the world into a better place and this embedded growth obligation in society, what does that actually do to the biosphere? so i decided to leave klarna to instead start the norrsken foundation that aims to put the spotlight and capital on impact entrepreneurs. because if we can enable these kinds of businesses into becoming the next role models, this will be so much better for humanity. so how do you find these impact companies? what are you looking for? right. so we have today about a billion close to $1,000,000,000 under management. we've done about 120 different impact investments and we have three different ecosystems, or hubs in stockholm, in barcelona and in rwanda, kigali as well. and today, if you are an entrepreneur or startup founder, you actually do care much more about not only making money and creating a unicorn, you actually do care about creating a positive impact. so we find them. they find us. of course, your foundation is looking to support those kind of businesses, but how important are they? how critical are they to solving some of the challenges in the world we face at the moment? well, i think they are critical. if you look at companies that we backed, for example, northvolt creating the world's greenest batteries for the car industry and electrical airplanes. i mean, if we don't get these innovations, how can then governments regulate what we cannot do, these negative externalities? so we need to get these innovations up and we need them to scale. another example is, for example, ion ride, creating an electrical autonomous truck, replacing combustion engines on the streets. and to what extent do you support these companies and when do they come off your support, as it were? so we have five different funds investing all the way from the very start, and we followed them on to a quite late stage. and i think all companies today, it's very critical with investments and getting backing, of course. so we tried to do that in the initial steps, but then of course later on is other institutions taking them forward. you mentioned the cities. you've got hubs in barcelona, kigali and stockholm. why those cities? well, that's a good question. so this is just the start. and we believe that if you look at stockholm, what we've done there, you now see 38 times as many impact startups in stockholm, sweden as the world average. and if we can enable this in many, many more cities through partnerships that i think can have a good impact on humanity. there are so many companies that we hear about here at the bbc who are making a difference when it comes to climate. what in particular are you looking for in terms of your support? well, we look across all the 17 sustainability development goals set up by the united nations. and as it happens now, i think about 80% of the entrepreneurs we've been invested into, 120 plus companies have been around climate. this is a very hot topic, obviously. and going back again to i think a lot of these startup founders also realized that this is an incredible business opportunity. the founder of the norrsken foundation and what he's doing with it and his hopes for change. let's show you guys as a new day begins, nearly eight o'clock in the morning and as we have mentioned, a second convoy of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid has crossed into gaza on sunday evening. very important, vital elements on these trucks, fuel. not fuel, food and water, they are desperately needing food. we can show you the north of israel near the border with lebanon on as the big day begins, you can see traffic on the move and much concern about this border area and what might happen in terms of the next stage in the conflict. i will be back with the latest at the top of the hour. hello. we've got a window of slightly drier, quieterweather at the moment as storm babet has cleared away. but there are still plenty of flood warnings in force, particularly through central parts of england. now, monday will see quite a chilly morning, even some icy stretches, but a largely dry day for many of us once again. now for the rest of the overnight period, the early hours of monday morning, we have got some rain sitting out to the west here. but for most of us, clear skies, some mist and some fog patches and temperatures even in our towns and cities close to freezing in the north. could be a bit colder than that in the countryside. so certainly a little bit of ice on any untreated surfaces for parts of scotland and northern england too. now through the day, we've got low pressure trying to squeeze its way in from the west. high pressure, though, holding on, a ridge of high pressure across the near continent. so that's how we start the day largely dry under that area of high pressure. mist and fog patches through the central swathe of the uk. a little bit icy in the north at first. any icy stretches, any mist and fog clear away. so some long spells of sunshine, a few more showers into northern ireland, perhaps into cornwall, the isles of scilly as well. most other places seeing a dry day with some sunshine, 11 to 16 degrees. but the cloud increases in the south later in the afternoon ahead of this area of rain that pushes in across parts of england. wales also seeing some rain as we head through the overnight period into tuesday. so not quite as cold. certainly temperatures for some of us remaining in double figures as we move through into tuesday morning. now, tuesday's weather dominated by this area of low pressure. it is the remnants of a storm named bernard by the portuguese met service. so it's brought some pretty wet and windy weather further south across europe. by the time it reaches our shores, i think on tuesday, we're going to be seeing some showery outbreaks of rain. could be a bit more persistent for the likes of lincolnshire, the wash, norfolk as well. either side of that sunny spells, perhaps one or two showers around, but not the persistent heavy rain that we've seen. and temperatures between about 11 to 16 degrees. so fairly typical of the time of year. now heading towards the middle of the week, and wednesday brings a weather front in from the atlantic. so some stronger winds and more persistent rain possible for the south west of england, wales, perhaps northern ireland later in the day. to the north and east of that, again, sunny spells and a few showers around — 10 to 16 degrees. so certainly not completely dry and things are looking quite autumnal and unsettled really through the week ahead. so more rain at times, but we're not expecting the heavy, disruptive rain that we saw during the course of last week with storm babet. bye— bye. good morning. welcome to breakfast with ben thompson and sally nugent. our headlines today... a second aid convoy enters gaza, as rishi sunakjoins other western leaders in calling on israel to respect international humanitarian law. as air strikes continue overnight, there's a warning from the israeli defence minister. translation: before hamas makes contact with our tanks, _ and our infantry, they will know the shells from our air force. more flood warnings for england, as water levels continue to rise following storm babet. landlines are going digital, as the uk phone network gets a massive overhaul. the old analogue system will be switched off by 2025, with handsets using broadband connections instead. i'll explain exactly what it means for you. good morning. aston villa are two points off the top of the premier league. it's after an 11th consecutive home victory. they beat west ham convincingly and are in the runinng for a place in europe. good morning. a chilly start to the day with the risk of ice on untreated surfaces in the north. after mist and fog clears, largely dry with sunshine. we do have rain coming in from the west and later from the south. all the details throughout the morning programme. it's monday 23rd october.
