to describe facts and figures about she targeted parents. he is the some parts of it. have these moments address the court. he is describing child's death. this is something that has been heard through the evidential stage of this case because this was a trial that lasted nearly ten months, and murders of each of these babies have been described in the most minute level of detail already during this trial of detail already during this trial of the way that often these babies were seen to be doing quite well. we have seen it reflected in some of the victim impact statements this morning. the parents of one of the babies who was born prematurely was very sick talked about at one point being told their child might be about to come home, they describe sitting with the baby on their knee and i talked about even being told at one point to bring in the currency to be checked because the baby may be home within a few days and then it never happened because that was one of the babies lucy letby murdered, so each of those specific incidents is now being described by the judge specific incidents is now being described by thejudge in detail, when he is not identifying those babies we will take you to the camera in the court and you will be able to hear his continuing remarks. your message to a colleague saying you needed — your message to a colleague saying you needed to either murdered or attempted to murder his baby, and he was talking about the pain that each of these babies suffered, he was saying the methods that lucy letby used, where she injected in some cases air into the bloodstream of these babies, were to use this insulin to poison others, in some cases where she overfed them with liquid food, milk or saline, all these methods he described, methods that she used to kill were trying to kill these babies, suffered, inflicted extreme suffering and pain as children, but also on their parents. as we have been hearing from the victim impact statements that have been delivered in court this morning where the parents have distressing and harrowing of moments, where they talked about their children being in severe distress. you talked about their children particular part of the sentencing remarks you are hearing small excerpts of it and then the camera is cutting away and that is because mrjustice goss at this stage is addressing each one of those murders and attempted murders and in doing that because while we watch this and listen to these details at the heart of all this are the families of those babies who lucy letby murdered and attempted to murder and this part in many ways is for them, the acknowledgement of their children by name, the acknowledgement of the families by name, and absolutely vital part of the sentencing hearing, particularly when this morning the judge the sentencing hearing, particularly when this morning thejudge heard a victim impact statement from each of them, really heard them describe what they went through during this process, so this part of the sentencing is really important because they are seeing their children named and acknowledged, hearing the specific details of their debts, described by thejudge once again, and that is why this is so important to them and we will listen to the bits we can listen to and the best we can to bring you because of the identifying details. he sought to made by each of those babies' families and to keep reminding you when we talk about those babies and when you see them referred to in the immediate they are not talked about by name, deliberately referred to by letter, baby baby a or baby c or baby c. in one casea baby baby a or baby c or baby c. in one case a trip was targeted by lucy letby and the methods were discussed in which they tried to kill and in some cases successfully murder those premature babies on the neonatal muted unit at the countess of chester hospital and this is very important on the context of the sentencing hearing which is what we are listening to now, lucy letby is not in the dock to hear any of these, she has chosen to stay in the holding cells here at manchester crown court but the judge is addressing notjust the wider world on television, those remarks which are being televised and he is also addressing the jurors who have spent so long delivering on this case, addressing the families themselves, by name, which is why we are not showing this particular part of the sentencing hearing, he is talking to in some cases lucy letby*s colleagues, people who worked with her closely, we considered her as a friend and people who were also there on the unit as she was my these babies who also had to live through the experience of seeing these in some cases seemingly healthy babies, of these catastrophic collapses and dying in as a judge has been describing painful and difficult circumstances. let's go back to the court and continue the sentencing remarks. br; continue the sentencing much of this is possible which is why you keep taking you to the court and then back outside the court again because as he is naming the babies and naming the families, those are parts of the sentencing remarks that we can't bring you but i want to make sure you can hear as much of this is possible, parts we can broadcast where he is talking about the circumstances of the deaths of those babies because this really all builds up a picture ahead of the sentence which thejudge builds up a picture ahead of the sentence which the judge will pass as part of these remarks. you heard him at the beginning a few minutes ago and he is talking about the wider circumstances of this case, talking about lucy letby a somebody who was on the face of it a conscientious nurse, a kind person, somebody who went undetected for so long because people believe that she was doing good and then this pattern of debts emerged, the pattern of babies having these time inexplicably collapses and then the investigative process that led everything towards the presence of a single nurse at all of those incidents, lucy letby, the person who was always on ship when babies were dying and when babies were having these sudden and acute medical episodes. this is relevant because what the judge is doing now is he is laying out all of the facts on which he is basing his sentences. this is something lucy letby, any convicted criminal, would be in court for, they would be in the dark and the remarks would be addressed directly to them but lucy letby is not in court today. we can continue to hear the remarks. we can go back inside. on the 30th of september, you infused — on the 30th of september, you infused a — on the 30th of september, you infused a large _ on the 30th of september, you system. we will bring you back i outside manchester crown court. you are listening to the sentencing remarks for lucy letby. this is the judge. he has been talking about the details of this case, which of course we brought you first on friday. lucy letby, 33, convicted of the murders of seven babies in her care and attempted murders of six more. what you are watching is the picture inside court number seven. thejudge has presided over a trial almost ten months in length. he is explaining now, recapping, in many ways, the facts of the case. he is setting the scene for the sentence he is about to pass on lucy letby. she is not in court to hear that sentence but all of this is an important part of him explaining, when he tells us the custodial sentence, and it will be a long sentence, and it will be a long sentence, if the prosecution has its way it will be a whole life order where lucy letby will not be released. these are decisions that the judge is released. these are decisions that thejudge is making and he is now explaining both to the court and wider world, explaining both to the court and widerworld, because explaining both to the court and wider world, because these are televised sentencing remarks, as you can see. he is explaining the basis on which he has decided to formulate the sentence that he will hand down. what is happening, this is the central section, what is happening, this is the centralsection, middle what is happening, this is the central section, middle part of three of the sentencing. at the beginning you heard him talk about the facts, talk about lucy letby and the facts, talk about lucy letby and the way in which she coldly and calculatedly murdered the children, the way in which she hid that offending, and that will no doubt be designed to highlight the serious nature of the crimes in which she has committed and all of that will feed in to the sentence which he will pass in the final part of the sentencing remarks, the central section, and the reason we bring you away is so that we do not broadcast identities of the families in there, listening to everything the judge had to say. i can bring in my colleague, who has been here in manchester during the trial. part of this is about the families. they are at the centre of everything. what we are hearing and listening to, it is vital for them are hearing and listening to, it is vitalfor them because are hearing and listening to, it is vital for them because this are hearing and listening to, it is vitalfor them because this is are hearing and listening to, it is vital for them because this is the moment at which they will find out finally what sort of punitive sentence lucy letby will face for murders and attempted murders of their children.— their children. they have been waitin: their children. they have been waiting ten — their children. they have been waiting ten months, _ their children. they have been waiting ten months, longer, i waiting ten months, longer, obviously, the trial has gone on ten months. and it has been impactful hearing the statements from families, talking about how they raised suspicions, searched for answers, and the distressing testimony in court, talking about how perhaps they were not believed in their search for answers, several talking about how they've thought about ending their own lives, such as the impact, and saying how they will never recover. we have talked today about the anger a lot of them have for the fact lucy letby is not in court. she arrived in manchester today but she is not hearing these remarks. for many of them, it will be hard to come to terms with. also they found it hard seeing her for those ilt days when she was giving evidence. we heard police interviews talking about how without emotion she was when she talked about the babies, talked about other staff members, they had been broken when they talked about the events that happened, the distress they felt because of these babies dying in a unit where they were working but they did not get that sense from lucy letby. this is the end of a ten month trial. the police investigation has gone on many years. 32,000 pages of evidence the police brought to court. and now what we are having is the judge going through details of every single baby affected. seven that were murdered and others we have heard about. he is going through it in minute detailand heard about. he is going through it in minute detail and the reason we are not hearing from him now is because he is giving details we have to keep them anonymous, for their protection, to protect identities of the parents and also the surviving siblings. such strong comments from thejudge already siblings. such strong comments from the judge already talking about how the judge already talking about how the babies suffered acute pain, talked about them fighting for survival. his words have been so strong. he talked about notes found at lucy letby*s house, handover notes, medical notes from the hospital. i will hand you back because i believe we can hear more from court. truly horrific. after these last cottapses _ truly horrific. after these last collapses and
