carter when we end. go ahead. you are watching bbc news. i carter when we end. go ahead. i you are watching bbc news. you have been _ you are watching bbc news. you have been watching live pictures of a press conference taking place in maui in hawaii where there has been wild fires and it's now been confirmed they've killed 89 people, that's the new death toll there in maui and in fact it does make this the deadliest wildfire in the last ten years in the united states, surpassing the camp fire which killed 85 people in the year 2018. we are hearing more, more resources are being sent to the island as the search for victims is reallyjust getting under way. we heard from officials will be taking the time and say they want do the search right in the wake of these devastating wildfires. the historic town of lahaina is the worst hit part of the island that we have been getting some dramatic pictures of the aftermath there of those fires. it's been nearly completely burned to the ground and we heard from the press conference that in terms of walking through the town, there is very little that has survived. meanwhile, there are still fires burning on the island of maui. we heard from the fire officials there saying they are still working to contain some of the fires, there are at least two or three continuing to burn. you see images there of helicopters attempting to douse the flames. many people, as we know, were forced to flee at a moments notice, leaving many things behind. there were some people allowed back into the surrounding areas. it was interesting to hear during the press conference that they were not intended to actually intern into the affected areas because they could still be danger, there are they believe some toxic chemicals and unstable structures within lahaina itself. on saturday, hawaii's attorney general announced an investigation into why the island's wanting silence did not sound during the height of the emergency. we want to play you the way that the state's governorjosh green entered the press conference with these remarks here.— remarks here. this is the laruest remarks here. this is the largest natural— remarks here. this is the largest natural disaster l remarks here. this is the - -- like an ohana. that's josh green there, speaking at - -- like an ohana. that's joshi green there, speaking at the end of the press conference today and we want to end the programme with some pictures coming in of the governor touring the affected areas of lahaina, some absolutely la haina, some absolutely impactful lahaina, some absolutely impactful images here really because some of the first pictures of the devastation within lahaina and we will continue to follow that developing story in hawaii and maui as we get it but again, the death toll rising to 89 people. that's the latest we're getting here. i'm carl nasman. thanks for watching bbc news. hello there. part one of the weekend was quite mixed with low pressure nearby bringing sunshine and showers. some of the showers were heavy and thundery in places. sunday looks pretty similar. we've still got the same area of low pressure nearby, bringing sunshine and showers and it will be breezy, but not as windy as it was on saturday. this is the area of low pressure i'm talking about, sitting to the north—west of scotland. this feature will run in during sunday night and into monday across england and wales. sunday, though, starts off fine. some good spells of sunshine around. the showers will get going most in scotland, northern ireland. some heavy ones for north east scotland. better chance of staying dry altogether through central, southern and eastern england, where we'll see highs of 22 or 23 degrees. generally, it's the high teens though further north, especially where we have the showers. and then, this next feature starts to run into wales, south west england, bringing some heavy, perhaps thundery rain as it pushes northwards and eastwards during the night. scotland and northern ireland tending to stay dry away from these weather fronts. here, we'll see temperatures in the low teens, otherwise it's the mid teens further south. then, for monday, we have got that feature moving across england and wales. could continue to bring heavy, thundery downpours in places — particularly in wales, north west england — but the heaviest of the rain will start to push out into the north sea as it clears away and we start to see some sunshine moving into western areas later in the day, so it is an improvement and not a bad day to come for scotland and northern ireland — fewer showers, more in the way of sunshine. again, temperatures i9—2i celsius. that area of low pressure clears away. we start to see this area of high pressure nosing in from the west. that should settle things down. there's still a chance of a few showers across the northern half of the country here with light northerly winds but the winds will be very light and we should see a bit of sunshine once any morning mist and murk clears away for england and wales. temperatures responding — 23, maybe 2a in the warmest spots. and that's the theme of things to come as we move through the week. high pressure starts to take over. we should see more drier weather, more sunshine around, so temperatures will respond. but with this area of low pressure trying to push in off the atlantic, we'll start to see winds coming in from the south to the south—east and that'll draw up some very warm air from the near continent so, apart from the odd shower across northern areas towards the end of the week, it will be turning sunnier and warmer, especially in england and wales, with perhaps the high 205 likely across the south—east friday into the weekend. voiceover: this is bbc news. we'll have the headlines for you at the top of the hour, which is straight after this programme. describe erling haaland in one word?
