because the position is compromised. the key in electronic warfare is being invisible to your enemy. abduljalil abdurasulov, bbc news, kyiv. service—personnel based at raf lossiemouth have returned home following a four—month mission to protect nato airspace in the baltic. pilots from the murray airbase had to intercept a number of russian aircraft during the mission which comes amid heightened tension in the region. iain macinnes has more. touching down from their latest mission, one squadron from raf lossiemouth. these personnel are amongst more than 60 who returned to the murray airbase this week, after a busy four—month stint in estonia. these typhoons took on the role of protecting nato air space in the baltic region, with tensions high following the russian invasion of ukraine. raf lossiemouth crews used the code word "zombie" for russian aircraft which weren't responding to air traffic control, and those flying these planes saw plenty of them. more than 50 russian aircraft were intercepted by crews based here at raf lossiemouth. it should be remembered that we've been doing this mission for many years now, ever since russia invaded crimea in 2014. however, since last february, that mission has become perhaps a little bit more important to us all, and perhaps gained a little bit more attention. but we still continue to do what we've always done. that is support our nato allies and make sure that we offer effective deterrents for everybody who's part of nato. pilots trailed a number of russian planes in the skies above the baltic, from fighter aircraft, to intelligence flights and long—range bombers. but ground crews also face their own challenges. we've got a reduced package of spares available to us to maintain the aircraft. and we need to think on our feet a little bit more, and use the kind of available resources we have deployed to make the most out of it, really. but for those returning, how do they feel about coming home? genuinely, a sigh of relief. you know, we worked really hard as a team. we've come together and it's bittersweet in some ways, because we've worked extremely closely as a family. and now, obviously, we're going to be parting ways. some of us will be moving on new squadrons, new pastures. next operations, next life. really joyful actually. i'm looking forward to go back to see my wife and my dogs, and kind of get a chance to chill out, because it's been a very busy time, and four days off over two and a bit months is not a lot, so i'm looking forward to the two weeks that i have next. although raf lossiemouth personnel are now home, air policing continues over the baltic, the spanish air force now charged with securing the airspace in the region. iain macinnes, reporting scotland at raf lossiemouth. a volunteer drivers charity that takes patients to appointments says it's at breaking point, because it's having to make up for a failing nhs patient transport service. shaftesbury car link in dorset, told the bbc it's been left struggling to cope. matthew hill reports. elena has an appointment with her podiatrist. the 80—year—old relies on volunteer driver, les, to take her seven miles to the health centre. without this, well, i'd be stuck where i am. and i'd have to get ordinary taxis. shaftesbury car link serves a large geographical area from wiltshire to north dorset through to somerset, which has very poor public transport links. it has about 1200 clients on its books. many are very vulnerable. hi. could i make an appointment for next wednesday, please? next wednesday. june hull has been an unpaid director of shaftesbury car link for five years, but recently she's noticed the nhs patient transport service is letting patients down, leaving her not—for—profit organisation to pick up the pieces. there's a lady who lives locally, her son is severely disabled. she was trying to get transport for him to go to hospital. she tried to phone patient transport services, couldn't get through on the phone and phoned me in tears saying, "what do i do?" last month i spoke to a whistle—blower from nhs patient transport services who revealed hundreds of calls to their helpline were being abandoned due to long waits. hi, maggie, it's sue. are you ready? in a statement, the nhs patient transport service says it's sorry to anyone affected by delays and says it's working on an improvement plan with all other nhs organisations involved across the south west. june and her husband, martin hull, will be taking their first holiday in five years in september. unless they get more volunteers like les, they're really worried about some of the most vulnerable patients being able to get to hospital. matthew hill, bbc south today. bosses at east midlands airport say today is expected to be their busiest day of the summer, with 19 thousand passengers expected to pass through. passenger numbers are finally approaching what they were in 2019. giles taylor is at the airport. well, we're inside the familiar surroundings of the check—in hall at east midlands airport, where lots of passengers are getting ready to go off on their summer holidays. and with us here is mike grimes from the airport. mike, you're expecting a very busy day today, aren't you? # feeling good as hell! on stage and in interviews, lizzo has shared a message of body positivity and celebrating who you are. hey, lizzo, this is arianna, and i'm super excited to get the chance to audition for your dancer and model search. she was a role model to the three dancers who have taken out this lawsuit containing allegations lizzo rejects as false. they spoke to me from la on why they felt they had to go public. this was worst case scenario. it was a last resort. this person that has been bullied her whole life has now gotten power and now she has kind of lost touch of, i believe, who she is and her roots and now she's doing to others which was done to her. the claims involve explicit sexual acts with sex toys and being made to rehearse for so long that the dancers soiled themselves. i do think she needs to be held accountable for all the things l that she has done or enabled and created this _ environment to be done in. but they have a fight on their hands. lizzo has now responded to the claims, releasing a statement in which she says the allegations are false, unbelievable and too outrageous not to be addressed. and there is still every chance that this will never make it to court. i would imagine that lizzo will begin to reinforce her brand. that's been attacked as to whether that's truly authentic. so you'll see her double down. you'll see her team begin to attack the other side. and i would imagine that this will be settled. it's hard to love yourself in a world that doesn't love you back. the three dancers told me that lizzo's statement has left them overwhelmed, disappointed and feeling overlooked. lizzo says she is not the villain that people and the media have portrayed her to be. do you consider lizzo to be a villain? do i think lizzo can take this and change and be who she says she is? yes, absolutely. i want her to be who she said she was when i first met her. the bbc has asked lizzo for an interview. she has yet to respond. colin paterson, bbc news. now it's time for a look at the weather with chris fawkes. hello. we've got some wet and windy weather on the way this weekend, from an area of low pressure that the met office have now named as storm anthony. more on that in a moment. today's weather is a day of sunny spells and showers, but the showers won't be for everyone, because they will concentrate really across one area in particular. that is across eastern england, where we have this convergence zone with winds bashing together, funnelling the moisture together, and that helps make these showers that could turn heavy and thundery. i wouldn't be surprised if we get around ten or even 20 millimetres of rain in places. but away from eastern england, there will be a lot of drier weather this afternoon, with some sunny spells for most of you. temperatures still running a little bit below average, but feeling 0k in any august sunshine. 0vernight tonight, we start to see outbreaks of rain feed in, particularly to northern ireland. temperatures overnight holding up into double figures. but then, storm anthony will really start to affect our weather into saturday. now, the heaviest rain will be across northern ireland. 20 to a0 millimetres, maybe even a bit more than that over the hills in the south, for example. could bring some localised flooding. and then we see the rain extend across england and wales, along with some strong gusts of wind. 50 to 60 mile an hour gusts for wales and south—west england. we are likely to see some disruption from that. whether it be from speed restrictions on the bridges, for example, crossing the severn. or you might see one or two trees be blown over. it won't be raining everywhere though, all day. scotland and northern ireland having some brighter weather through the day, with sunshine and a few showers. wherever you are, though, temperatures below average. and for some, particularly on the northern edge of the main rain band, feeling really quite cool. 1a or 15 degrees. now, the worst of the weather does clear through as we head into sunday. sunday is a day of sunshine and showers. again, some of the showers quite heavy. the biggest risk of seeing some showers or even thunderstorms will be across scotland and eastern areas of england. it might well stay dry for most of the day across wales and the south—west. now, as we head into monday and tuesday, the unsettled weather is set to continue, with rain or showers pretty widely once again. however, we then see a change in the weather later next week. as an area of high pressure influences our weather, we start to drag in some warmer winds coming in from the near continent. that will boost the temperatures. for some, a taste of summer on the cards, with temperatures potentially reaching the mid, maybe even the high 20s in the warmest areas. goodbye for now. live from london, this is bbc news. the temperature of the world's oceans reaches a record high, prompting new warnings about the dangers of climate change. ukraine claims its carried out a naval drone attack on a russian ship in the black sea. controversial influencer andrew tate — accused of rape and human trafficking — is released from house arrest in romania. and we hear from a team of adventurers on a road trip from ghana to the uk to raise money for rural schools. hello. welcome to bbc news now. i'm maryam moshiri. we start with a new and dire warning about global climate change. scientists say the average surface temperature of the world's oceans has hit a record high. it rose to just under 21 degrees celsius — or nearly 70 farenheit — in august. that's far above the average for this time of year. and researchers say it could have serious consequences for the global environment. 0ur climate editor justin rowlatt reports. they've been taking measurements of ocean temperatures here in plymouth for more than a century. and for the last 50 or so years, they've shown a slow but steady increase — up about a third of a degree a decade. have we got a reading for today yet, do you know? i heard them say something around 18 or 19, which is four degrees higher than it should be. let's leave our live coverage and head to derby crown court for the sentencing of the mother and stepfather over the death of ten
