these planes saw plenty of them. more than 50 russian aircraft were intercepted by crews based here at raf lossiemouth. it should be remembered that we ve been doing this mission for many years now, ever since russia invaded crimea in 2014. however, since last february, that mission has become perhaps a little bit more important to us all, and perhaps gained a little bit more attention. but we still continue to do what we ve always done. that is support our nato allies and make sure that we offer effective deterrents for everybody who s part of nato. pilots trailed a number of russian planes in the skies above the baltic, from fighter aircraft, to intelligence flights and long range bombers. but ground crews also face their own challenges. we ve got a reduced package of spares available to us to maintain the aircraft. and we need to think on our feet a little bit more, and use the kind of available resources we have deployed to make the most out of it, really.
