coronavirus in january and was rushed to hospital where she suffered an ectopic pregnancy where the baby grows outside the womb and cannot survive. she said she felt lost — but that getting back on race of the formula 1 season will be held at imola this weekend to decide the grid for sunday's emilia romagna grand prix. the format is different this weekend. everyone was struggling in the rain in today's only practice session. championship leader charles leclerc lost control of his ferrari a couple of times, but he still managed to top the timesheets. lewis hamilton could only manage 17th. qualifying to decide the grid for saturday's sprint race gets under way at four o'clock this afternoon. well, before today's practice, sir lewis hamilton was talking about football instead — saying having the chance to invest in chelsea is a great opportunity and one he very much wants to take. the seven time world champion, and former world tennis number one serena williams, are both thought to be keen to support the bid of potential new owner sir martin broughton. to support the bid of potential new owner sir martin brou-hton. uncle is a bi my uncle is a big blues fan. ultimately, i am a unlikely to play again this season. pogba is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move away from old trafford. rangnick also confirmed he hadn't spoken with harry maguire — after the defender recieved a bomb threat — which led to cheshire police sweeping his home. this is another bad sign of a crazy world we are living in. obviously i feel very sorry for harry that he has to make that terrible experience. but he knows that we are all behind him, the club is behind him, the players, his team—mates. but it is sad that crazy things like that happen. emma raducanu will have to be at her best if she wants to reach the semifinals of the stuttgart open this evening — she needs to get past the world number one iga swiatek. the two are meeting on the wta tour for the first time — after raducanu beat germany's tamara korpatsch in three sets to reach the quarter finals. it's also the first time raducanu has won back to back matches this year. at the world snooker championship, ronnie o'sullivan has made a good start in his second round match against mark allen — the six—time champion leads 6 frames to 2. three—time champion mark williams is already into the quarterfinals. he thrashed jackson page in their second round match — winning 13 frames to 3 — which also included six breaks above 100. i'll have more for you in the next hour but that's all the sport for now. the prime minister is on an official visit to india, where he's announced plans for a new defence and security partnership. borisjohnson said he'd told negotiators to complete a bilateral free trade deal with new delhi by the autumn. but at a news conference, he continued to face questions from journalists over his leadership, after mps demanded a parliamentary investigation into whether he misled them over lockdown breaches. did you ask prime minister modi to use his influence? on trade, the free trade agreement, considering the number of party investigations, are you sure you will be still be prime minister by then? , i i, will be still be prime minister by then? , _, i, , , will be still be prime minister by then? , i, , _ , on ukraine and the indian perspective you have to recognise that the indians, and prime minister modi in particular, have come out and been strong in their language about what has happened in bucha, and it is clear that prime minister modi has already intervened several times with vladimir putin, to ask him, what on earth he thinks he is doing. and where he thinks this is going. and what the indians want is peace, and they want the russians out. i totally agree with that. there is a difference in the balance, clearly, because india has a historic relationship with russia which everybody understands and respects. that goes back decades. but what was so interesting about the last couple of days has been the way in which britain and india are being really encouraged, obliged, by the pressure of events today, as i say autocratic coercion, whether it is in russia or china orforever, to do more together. and that is, i think, offering up a hugejoint agenda. there are three big areas where you are seeing work being done now. the green growth side. big agenda for us. clean power. a lot of work is being done on that. on the security and defence side. a huge amount of there, which i could go into. and then, the trade agreement. all trade agreements are tricky. there will be tough asks of both sides. but i'm sure we can do it. what you have got today is a massive push from both governments to get it done. i am very encouraged. itv. you say that prime minister modi has asked _ you say that prime minister modi has asked vladimir putin what on earth he is _ asked vladimir putin what on earth he is doing. — my answer to ben, is the ways in which the situation, notjust in ukraine, but around the world, is obliging the uk and india to do more together. the position on russia that the indians have historically is well known. they are not going to change that. that is true. but they can see what is going on. there is an increasing appetite to do more with the uk. if you look at the security and defence side of it, maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion of ships, collaboration on a new aero engines, on undersea capabilities, on cyber, helicopters, space, a huge newjoint agenda. that is being driven by contemporary events. it is a positive thing. it is a great opportunity. what it does is it helps to drive the make in india agenda of prime minister modi, but also helps to drive the idea of co—production and doing things together, and that is where i think the opportunity is. borisjohnson, talking this morning at a news conference in delhi. a man been declared an official suspect in the disappearance of madeleine mccann, nearly 15 years ago. prosecutors in portugal haven't officially named the person of interest. madeleine mccann went missing during a family holiday in praia da luz in the algarve in may 2007, shortly before her 4th birthday. jim gamble is a child protection expert, and a former police officer who carried out a review of the case over a deacde ago. when he spoke with victoria derbyshire he described the significance of the timing of this latest development. the timing is important. we were having discussions, you know, four or five months ago about the statute of limitations and the legal framework within portugal. and there was an awareness of the pressure, and i don't think anyone would have wanted to roll the dice by going with the court to say that we'd like to extend this time of 15 years beyond that because of the pandemic. so i think, you know, both issues are true and credible, but we have now got someone who has been identified with the status of being a person of interest. and that person of interest is really interesting insofar as i think there now is substantial evidence, thanks to the germans and some of the work of new scotland yard and the portuguese, to demonstrate that they were in proximity, had opportunity and the profile of their known predilection for crime, the crimes that they have already committed, the burglaries and the rape and the other crimes of that nature, mean that they are a good fit. so they are not charged yet, but this is the necessary step en route to that if the portuguese are able to put everything together. this man, christian b denies any involvement in the disappearance of madeleine mccann. what is the circumstantial evidence, do you know? there was chaos when madeleine mccann first went missing, information was being held all over the place. it was not as if this was an investigation where all information was captured and analysed. the key thing at the time was information about telephones. not telling you what was said, but where that phone was at a particular time, immediately around the time of the crime stop that had never been properly interrogated. what is interesting, when i say proximity, we do know that a phone attributed to this particular suspect was in proximity to the crime scene. this suspect lived in that area between 1995 and 2007. in 2005 we know he committed a rape of an older woman in that area. this individual was involved in burglaries of hotel rooms and holiday lets. in proximity, a history of breaking into hotel rooms, sexual crime history involving older women, but absolutely with the potential at younger children where he had an earlier conviction. and children's clothing found there. when you put that together, whether he committed this offence or not we cannot see on telly is convicted, but he is a nasty piece of work. this is a dangerous character. —— until he is convicted. we have to be cautious, but he has been found in possession of these images, and we know he was breaking into holiday homes. if that evidence was as strong as it sounds when you describe it like that, we do not have already been charged? isn't the missing link still something that links him directly, some forensics that link him directly with madeleine mccann? that is right. you are looking for that last piece of the jigsaw puzzle. circumstantial evidence, one piece of evidence, he lived in the algarve, that by itself means nothing. it is when you put it all together that it becomes overwhelmingly influential, but it does not prove the case. the germans have always kept their key suspicion, key piece of information close to the chest, but the level of confidence they have demonstrated, i have worked with gemma police in the past, the level of confidence in their public statements —— with the german police, is not something to underestimate. we are dealing with different types of systems. outside of the uk, when the germans would make a particular statement, he would have to share information with the suspects, i think the golden nugget they may haveis think the golden nugget they may have is something they do not want to share at this stage, so working with portuguese, and scotland yard, this provides the portuguese with the opportunity to extradite the suspects back to portugal, and perhaps to deliver the critical interview. do i think you will make an admission? no i do not. but only time will tell. —— think he will make an admission. i do not know if you have had contact with the parents of madeleine mccann in recent times, but they have been through hell. there has been false hope and false leads before. yes there has been false hope and false leads before-— leads before. yes stop this current of elements _ leads before. yes stop this current of elements could _ leads before. yes stop this current of elements could mean _ leads before. yes stop this current | of elements could mean everything leads before. yes stop this current. of elements could mean everything to them, or nothing. they will have had these highs and lows. they have had to go on every day. they have their twins, with shadow hanging over them. it is not easy for them. having looked at the evidence over the years, there is nothing that implicates them in any credible or serious way, but they still have to suffer taunts and online bile from some individuals, on the back of partial pieces of information. i hope we get a result, because that is what everyone wants, it is what the parents need, and it should cause some people to have difficulty looking in the mirror when they reflect what they have done and said over the past 15 years. jim gamble carried out a review on the madeleine mccann case back when alanjohnson was home secretary. now let's take a look at some of the stories happening across the uk. to suffolk and how the cost of living crisis is hitting foodbanks. one charity says, at a time when demand is higher than ever, donations have started to dry up. it has hundreds of empty crates in its warehouse, which would normally be full of stock to give out to people in need. zoie o'brien reports. well, the cost of living crisis has been impacting more and more families across our region. food banks have been dreading a fall in donations. i am at waverley food bank today and i am joined now by matthew who is the project manager. matthew, you have seen a fall of about 50%, haven't you? yeah, these crates here you can see around the room are normally 7 or8 high, 9 high, full of food, so, yeah, we are really down on donations. why do you think that is? people are donating. unfortunately, people donate the same amount of money which is absolutely brilliant, and we love them to do it, but it's buying less. and people who are comfortable are now looking at their finances as well where they've been donating. prices of energy rising. price of fuel rising. and stagnant wages. things are just going in a loop. people just can't afford to spend as much. at the same time, though, you are seeing more and more referrals, is that right? yes, the people that were just about managing now can't manage. they're coming to see us. they need help. we are up probably getting close to 1000 clients a month visiting us. thank you, matthew. well, we also know, these crates, there's about 350 of them that would ordinarily be filled are now standing empty. if there is anybody watching who is able to donate, you can do that at all major supermarkets. zoie o'brien reporting. education about the menstrual cycle needs to be urgently addressed in schools, according to new research by swansea university. a report found pupils need more information about the social and emotional aspects of periods, with teachers lacking confidence, resources, and time. teenagers have been telling bbc wales they've learnt more on social media than in school. kate morgan reports. if i didn't have the internet, i'd probably be lost, i'd still be using pads. i remember the first time i actually tried to use a tampon, i fainted on the toilet. these friends are used to talking openly about anything. they want to see more discussions like these in schools. so they are not forced to look elsewhere for basic information about their bodies. i've got most of my information about menstrual cycle and everything from tiktok. just videos coming up on my page explaining to me things that i had no idea about that. you know, the cycle is 28 days long, you have your ovulation on the 14th day. i had no idea about anything like that. and i don't think a lot of people do. their stories are similar to experiences in classrooms across the uk. new research by swansea university looking at period education recommends giving teachers more time, training and support as well as providing more information on the emotional and social aspects of the menstrual cycle. a female would receive one or two lessons within their school kind of attendance. and that was very much limited by the time that the teachers had, but also resources that they had to teach that. and also the comfort of their own experiences. here in wales, a government spokesperson said... the scottish government said... in northern ireland, the department of education spokesperson said... the uk government said in england... for these friends, they want to see more done to change period education to lessons that empower instead of embarrass. now it's time for a look at the weather with darren. hello there. we have seen sunny spells developing today, and, again, most places fine and dry. it has been a very dry april for much of the country. we have seen above average rainfall across eastern scotland and some of the driest weather has been across central and south—eastern parts of england where about one third of the expected rainfall so far. the prospects for the rest of the month, dry. little or no rain. no areas of low pressure, no weather fronts bringing the rain. where has it all gone? they've actually been steered into the mediterranean. it has been very wet here. another area of low pressure bringing more rain to iberia at the moment. here in the uk, we are stuck with easterly winds which means the east coast is always going to be a bit cooler whereas towards the west, particularly sheltered areas, temperatures are higher, 19 celsius in western scotland today. we've still got some cloud left over by the evening across southern parts of england and wales, any showers i think will tend to move away. we'll likely find the cloud increasing across much of england and wales, though, later on in the night and we still have some of that misty low cloud in the far north of scotland. typical temperatures around five, 6 degrees, milder than that in the south—east. we'll see a lot of cloud in the morning across england and wales. could be a few showers as well. they tend to push their way west, allowing more in the way of sunshine develop more widely. plenty of sunshine in northern ireland and scotland away from the misty low cloud again in the far north of the country. east or north—easterly winds, strongest across the north sea coast and over to the west of the pennines, gusty winds here as well. higher temperatures across many western areas, 16 to 18 degrees, several degrees lower around some of those north sea coasts. the weather pattern is still the same as we head into the second half of the weekend. high pressure to the north of the uk, big area of low pressure to the south bringing more rain into continental europe, taking away any showers from overnight from southern parts of england, we should have more sunshine on sunday for england and wales, northern ireland in quite nicely as well. but there is more cloud coming down into the northern half of scotland. that is going to bring a drop in the temperatures here. in the sunshine further south, 18 degrees, it shouldn't be too bad again, despite those brisk winds from the east or north—east. early next week, the winds become lighter but we are going to be stuck in some cooler air, the really cold air is probably missing the uk but it will be cool into the early part of next week at least and it looks like there is going to be a lot of cloud, but once again, it is still dry. this is bbc news. the headlines... prosecutors in portugal have declared an official suspect in the disappearance of madeleine mccann — who went missing during a family holiday nearly 15 years ago. it's understood to be this man — christian brueckner, a convicted sex offender currently injail in germany. borisjohnson insists he'll still be in charge in six months' time — afterfacing questions about his premiership after trade talks in india. what people want in our country is for the government to focus on the issues which we were elected for and that is what we are going to do. satellite images have been released, which are said to show a mass burial site near mariupol, in the south of ukraine. the mother of a boy found dead after an asthma attack has been found guilty of manslaughter.

opportunities to be a part of something. meanwhile, paul pogba may have played his last match for manchester united. the france midfielder has a calf injury and interim manager ralf rangnick says he's unlikely to play again this season. pogba is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move away from old trafford. rangnick also confirmed he hadn't spoken with harry maguire — after the defender recieved a bomb threat — which led to cheshire police sweeping his home. this is another bad sign of a crazy world we are living in. obviously i feel very sorry for harry that he has to make that terrible experience. but he knows that we are all behind him, the club is behind him, the players, his team—mates. but it is sad that crazy things like that happen. emma raducanu will have to be at her best if she wants to reach the semifinals of the stuttgart open this evening — she needs to get past the world number one iga swiatek. the two are meeting on the wta tour for the first time — after raducanu beat germany's tamara korpatsch in three sets to reach the quarter finals. it's also the first time raducanu has won back to back matches this year. at the world snooker championship, ronnie o'sullivan has made a good start in his second round match against mark allen — the six—time champion leads 6 frames to 2. three—time champion mark williams is already into the quarterfinals. he thrashed jackson page in their second round match — winning 13 frames to 3 — which also included six breaks above 100. i'll have more for you in the next hour but that's all the sport for now. the prime minister is on an official visit to india, where he's announced plans for a new defence and security partnership. borisjohnson said he'd told negotiators to complete a bilateral free trade deal with new delhi by the autumn. but at a news conference, he continued to face questions from journalists over his leadership, after mps demanded a parliamentary investigation into whether he misled them over lockdown breaches. did you ask prime minister modi to use his influence? on trade, the free trade agreement, considering the number of party investigations, are you sure you will be still be prime minister by then? , i i, will be still be prime minister by then? , _, i, , , will be still be prime minister by then? , i, , _ , on ukraine and the indian perspective you have to recognise that the indians, and prime minister modi in particular, have come out and been strong in their language about what has happened in bucha, and it is clear that prime minister modi has already intervened several times with vladimir putin, to ask him, what on earth he thinks he is doing. and where he thinks this is going. and what the indians want is peace, and they want the russians out. i totally agree with that. there is a difference in the balance, clearly, because india has a historic relationship with russia which everybody understands and respects. that goes back decades. but what was so interesting about the last couple of days has been the way in which britain and india are being really encouraged, obliged, by the pressure of events today, as i say autocratic coercion, whether it is in russia or china orforever, to do more together. and that is, i think, offering up a hugejoint agenda. there are three big areas where you are seeing work being done now. the green growth side. big agenda for us. clean power. a lot of work is being done on that. on the security and defence side. a huge amount of there, which i could go into. and then, the trade agreement. all trade agreements are tricky. there will be tough asks of both sides. but i'm sure we can do it. what you have got today is a massive push from both governments to get it done. i am very encouraged. itv. you say that prime minister modi has asked _ you say that prime minister modi has asked vladimir putin what on earth he is _ asked vladimir putin what on earth he is doing. — question, talking about cats, we had a pretty good kick of the cat yesterday, not that i am in favour of kicking cats, but we did all that, with respect. what we are talking about today, as i said in my answer to ben, is the ways in which the situation, notjust in ukraine, but around the world, is obliging the uk and india to do more together. the position on russia that the indians have historically is well known. they are not going to change that. that is true. but they can see what is going on. there is an increasing appetite to do more with the uk. if you look at the security and defence side of it, maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion, electric maritime propulsion of ships, collaboration on a new aero engines, on undersea capabilities, on cyber, helicopters, space, a huge newjoint agenda. that is being driven by contemporary events. it is a positive thing. it is a great opportunity. what it does is it helps to drive the make in india agenda of prime minister modi, but also helps to drive the idea of co—production and doing things together, and that is where i think the opportunity is. borisjohnson, talking this morning at a news conference in delhi. a man been declared an official suspect in the disappearance of madeleine mccann, nearly 15 years ago. prosecutors in portugal haven't officially named the person of interest. madeleine mccann went missing during a family holiday in praia da luz in the algarve in may 2007, shortly before her 4th birthday. jim gamble is a child protection expert, and a former police officer who carried out a review of the case over a deacde ago. when he spoke with victoria derbyshire he described the significance of the timing of this latest development. the timing is important. we were having discussions, you know, four or five months ago about the statute of limitations and the legal framework within portugal. and there was an awareness of the pressure, and i don't think anyone would have wanted to roll the dice by going with the court to say that we'd like to extend this time of 15 years beyond that because of the pandemic. so i think, you know, both issues are true and credible, but we have now got someone who has been identified with the status of being a person of interest. and that person of interest is really interesting insofar as i think there now is substantial evidence, thanks to the germans and some of the work of new scotland yard and the portuguese, to demonstrate that they were in proximity, had opportunity and the profile of their known predilection for crime, the crimes that they have already committed, the burglaries and the rape and the other crimes of that nature, mean that they are a good fit. so they are not charged yet, but this is the necessary step en route to that if the portuguese are able to put everything together. this man, christian b denies any involvement in the disappearance of madeleine mccann. what is the circumstantial evidence, do you know? there was chaos when madeleine mccann first went missing, information was being held all over the place. it was not as if this was an investigation where all information was captured and analysed. the key thing at the time was information about telephones. not telling you what was said, but where that phone was at a particular time, immediately around the time of the crime stop that had never been properly interrogated. what is interesting, when i say proximity, we do know that a phone attributed to this particular suspect was in proximity to the crime scene. this suspect lived in that area between 1995 and 2007. in 2005 we know he committed a rape of an older woman in that area. this individual was involved in burglaries of hotel rooms and holiday lets. in proximity, a history of breaking into hotel rooms, sexual crime history involving older women, but absolutely with the potential at younger children where he had an earlier conviction. and children's clothing found there. when you put that together, whether he committed this offence or not we cannot see on telly is convicted, but he is a nasty piece of work. this is a dangerous character.
