Care at nhs england, and on my right, Doctor Mary Ramsay, the head of immunisation at public Health England. Today i would like to bring you the latest on our Vaccination Programme and our work to get even more people protected from this deadly disease. We have come a long way since we gave the worlds first clinically organised vaccine just over six months ago, since that very special day we have now given a first dose to 82 of all adults in the united kingdom. Today i can confirm we have reached the milestone of three in five, all adults getting the protection of a second dose. Because we have been able to move at such a pace, any aduu able to move at such a pace, any adult in the uk can now book their first dose. In the two days after we opened our Booking System to anyone over the age of 18 there were six appointments being booked every second. And i have been absolutely thrilled to see videos of young people coming forward at some of our major Vaccination Events last weekend, and im sure it will be the same this coming weekend. The enthusiasm is. We have already given first doses to almost half of all 2529 first doses to almost half of all 25 29 Year Olds in england. And only a week after the programme opened to all adults on friday, one third of people aged between 18 and 24 third of people aged between 18 and 2a have had their first dose. To all the young people who have stepped up, i want to say a huge Thank You. You have protected yourself, you have protected your families and you have protected your families and you have protected your communities. Because the one thing you know, we know, is that vaccines are making the real difference. The vaccines are our Way Out of this pandemic. The latest data showed the Vaccination Programme has already saved over 111,000 lives and i can share with you that now it has prevented over 114,000 hospitalisations. Thats in england alone. Thats 2500 hospitalisations prevented in the past two weeks. When you look into the make up of Hospital Admissions, you can clearly see our Vaccination Programme is working. Can i have the first slide, please. Injanuary, people over 65 made up the vast majority of Hospital Admissions. That is why We Vaccinated them early in the programme. Looking at the most recent data show that now they make up recent data show that now they make up less than one third. So when we look at the protection that the vaccines deliver, its clear from that slide that it will be extremely effective, especially with two doses, and against the Delta Variant. The recently published data from public Health England looked at around 500 Hospital Admissions with the Delta Variant. Of these admissions, 324 patients, over 60 , were not vaccinated. 87 had received only one dose of a vaccine. And 40 had received two doses. So fewer than one in ten people in hospital with the Delta Variant had received two doses. This really does show the importance of getting the jab, and critically, getting that second dose. 0ur critically, getting that second dose. Our mission is now to get as many people protected as we can, and to protect them as quickly as we can. Last week we took the difficult but i think essential decision to press pause on step four of the Road Map for four weeks, with a review of the data after two weeks and we will absolutely have that Review And Share results with the nation. We will use this time to give our nhs that bit of time so we can get those remaining jabs in the arms of those who really do need them. Let me give you an example of why it is so important. Two weeks ago, there were over 2 Million people over the age of 50 in england who had had a first dose but not their second dose. Now that number, two weeks later, is 900,000. Down from 2 Million to 900,000. Down from 2 Million to 900,000. That pause has saved thousands of lives and will continue to do so, by allowing us to get more of the second doses into arms of those most vulnerable to covid before restrictions are eased further. We have also reduced the interval from first to second jab for the Over 40s to eight weeks. And i would urge everyone watching, if you are over 40, come forward, and have your second jab, take the opportunity to get that second jab early. You can do that by going online at the national booking service, or by calling 119. We have seen phenomenal Uptake And Enthusiasm for our Vaccination Programme so far. The uk has one of the highest rates of Vaccine Confidence in the world. Nine out of ten people of all adults say they have either taken the vaccine or that they want to take the vaccine. Its something we can all be proud of. But it is no accident, ladies and gentlemen. We got here because we have actively, and nikki will be explaining exactly how we have done that, we have gone out to address people is genuine concerns and have open, two way conversations about the vaccines, and how safe and important they are in saving lives. Because we have worked with local communities on the design of the Vaccination Programme so we can deliver it in a way that works for people, in a place they trust, by people, in a place they trust, by people they trust, the Vaccination Programme has been delivered in the community, by the community and for the community, and it has been a brilliant, brilliant experience to see vaccination is given in churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and many other pillars of the community across the whole united kingdom. To see the determined effort of the brilliant people, real partners on the ground to reach communities where take up has been lower. This concerted Community Led Effort i believe has truly paid off and we are seeing real positive result. Looking at the latest data from the office for national statistics, the 0ns, Vaccine Hesitancy has halved in the past few months among black and Black British people since february. And it has halved among asian and asian british people too in the same period. This is real progress. But we know there is much more to do. As we know there is much more to do. As we look to tackle and take on those final steps, those hard yards On The Road to recovery, we need to make sure as many people are protected as possible, so we are intensifying, doubling down our efforts to get more people to come forward and we are seeing real results in places like bolton and in the North West and elsewhere. We are honing in on areas where uptake is lower. For example, In London, where the percentage of first doses is slightly behind other areas in the united kingdom, the London Team is doing an incrediblejob, and i can confirm today that we are supporting them with a London Summit that will take place on friday, bringing together senior officials, the nhs In London, the mayor of london, clinical experts and Community Leaders from across the capital so we can see what has worked, what we can learn from it, and scale it, and focus on how we make sure we boost that crucial uptake in the crucial few weeks before the 19th ofjuly. Thanks to our Vaccination Programme, our incredible nhs, this country is getting a little bit safer every day. Whatever your age, whatever your background, the vaccine will protect you, it will protect your family, and all the people that you care about, so please come forward and get both doses. So we can take that final step On The Road to recovery. Thank you. I will hand over to Doctor Mary Ramsay to take us through the latest data and then we will hear from nikki us through the latest data and then we will hearfrom nikki kanani. Mary. We will hear from nikki kanani. Ma. ~ ,. , we will hear from nikki kanani. Ma. , ~ ,. ,. , we will hear from nikki kanani. Ma. ,. ,. , we will hear from nikki kanani. Ma. , ,. , we will hear from nikki kanani. Ma. Mg,. , mary. Thank you. I want to start by reaffirming mary. Thank you. I want to start by reaffirming what mary. Thank you. I want to start by reaffirming what the mary. Thank you. I want to start by reaffirming what the minister mary. Thank you. I want to start by reaffirming what the minister has l reaffirming what the minister has said, that the Scale And Pace of the programme has been very impressive and i also want to add my Thanks to the nhs for delivering that. I also want to thank my colleagues in Public Health across the country who, as part of that Public Health system, have supported the nhs in reaching out to those communities so we can achieve the very high and oppressive levels of coverage we have. I also want to thank my colleagues in public Health England who have, with other scientists across the country been analysing data on the Delta Variant so we can really inform ourselves on how best to take forward the Road Map. Our own data now shows clearly that the vaccine protects against the Delta Variant, particularly against hospitalisations and serious complications, with over 90 protection from two doses of either vaccine. The message is clear that people need to come forward and get their second dose, and theirfirst dose, obviously, but the second dose too. It is important to complete the course. I would like to take the opportunity to remind people there are other effective Life Saving vaccines available on the nhs. During lockdown and the pandemic there has been some Drop Off in the uptake of some of those vaccines so i think this is an opportunity as we come out of this pandemic for people to think again about the vaccines they might have missed out on and come forward. In particular, people leaving School Need to make sure they have a Meningitis Jack before they have a Meningitis Jack before they go either to university or start work in the summer. People in their 70s might have missed out on a Shingles Vaccine so they should come forward this winter. We know that some babies are behind on their six in one and Mmr Vaccine and its important for them to catch up as well. The School Immunisation programmes in particular have been struggling because schools have been closed so much so School Immunisation teams are doing a brilliantjob in trying to reschedule appointments so people can get some of those Life Saving vaccines like the Hpv Vaccine that protects against cervical cancer. I strongly encourage people who have missed out for whatever reason to make sure they get an appointment and come forward. Looking ahead to winter, we will be launching our flue programme, not so far away now. If you are offered that Flu Vaccine if you are offered that Flu Vaccine i would encourage you to come forward to avoid the potential double danger of having influenza and covid. To take you through some of the latest data, the first slide. Iam sure i am sure this figure will be familiar to people, showing the number of confirmed covid positive tests each day across the uk. You can see the numbers have been increasing in earlyjune in line with the increased transmission of the Delta Variant. However, numbers are much lower than they were during the second wave earlier this year. We are running at around ten and 11,000 cases per day. There is a high figure today, which has been contributed to by some Surge Testing in scotland, so sometimes these figures go up for a good reason, as well as other reissues. I think the next slide if we go on shows whats happening to hospitalisations. You can see the number of hospitalisations is rising but at a very much slower rate than we are seeing four cases. So this is showing us the evidence that the vaccine is working and is breaking the link between cases of infection and hospitalisations. If we move on to the third graph, which shows the numbers of deaths, well, although every death is a terrible, terrible tragedy, the numbers are so small on this graph that you cant see any increase. It again suggests that the Vaccination Programme is really helping to prevent severe Illness And Hospitalisation and death from covid. The final slide is perhaps the most positive one, showing you the most positive one, showing you the rate of increase in the number of people receiving a vaccine. We are now up to 43. 4 million people who have received a first dose. And of these, 31. 7 million adults have received a second dose as well. You can see the rate of increase in the second dose, catching up on the first dose, just as we have recommended. I think thats a very positive note to end on. I will head back to the minister. Back to the minister. Thank you, its Ust Back to the minister. Thank you, its just about back to the minister. Thank you, itsjust about getting back to the minister. I had some of the statistics in my opening remarks and you are quite right, if you look at the Delta Variant, which is why it is so important We Vaccinate people with those two doses because thats the real protection against the Delta Variant. 0ver Real Protection against the Delta Variant. Over 60 of hospitalisations from delta are people who have not been vaccinated, but they are still coming forward. The difference this time, because of the vaccines, injanuary the difference this time, because of the vaccines, in january we the difference this time, because of the vaccines, injanuary we were seeing 70 of Hospital Admissions being people over the age of 65 and 30 under. That number has now flipped the other way. Its a combination of people who still, nevertheless, still 30 who are over 65, that need that double protection, and they are still coming forward. When i went through the data with the operational team this week, in the last few days, we are still getting 70,000 people coming forward who were eligible, hence the point about it being evergreen, but they hadnt come forward. But now the walk ins, making it much easierfor forward. But now the walk ins, making it much easier for people, whether it is a mobile Vaccination Site, the Vaccine Taxis or the buses, those people need that protection. We keep going at pace to make sure we protect the whole country because the virus will attempt to survive. The way it survives is by finding people who are not protected and infecting them, especially communities that might be close knit. To give you an example, if we get to 85 of all adults double vaccinated, and that is a good place to be, and the vaccines are 85 effective against infection, they are much more effective against Hospitalisation And Death and that is a really good thing, but against infection, 85 by 85 is still 72 , so that is still 28 of the Adult Population that the virus can go after. Thats why we have to keep going at pace to vaccinate as many adults as we can to make sure that by the 19th, and i am confident of this, we will have 66 of the Adult Population with the protection of two jabs by that date the Prime Minister has set us. We built a Deployment Infrastructure, a Deployment Infrastructure, A Vaccination infrastructure. If you remember Brigadier Phil Prosser stood next to the pm on this stage and talked about us standing up a national Supermarket Chain in about a Month Way back in november of last year. That was to vaccinate, and then growing at 20 every week. So then growing at 20 every week. So the Deployment Infrastructure can deliver many more vaccines. I think our record was 27 jabs a second. So sometimes, because the vaccine supply, what you cant do is wait and then build your infrastructure. So we deliberately built the infrastructure, and then local systems will decide whether the Primary Care networks who have done the real heavy lifting, and i thank them for that, gps have done an incrediblejob, community incredible job, community pharmacies, more incrediblejob, community pharmacies, more than 500 are vaccinating. All the Vaccination Sites, how will deployed and delivered that. And obviously taking into account this big final push of having walkins, having mobile centres, all that deployment means that sometimes we will move vaccines around the system so you use your inventory where you needed to go instead of being in fridges, to get it into the arms of people. Sometimes that means a Vaccination Centre will be stood down in favour of a mobile site or a Walk Centre or elsewhere. And nikki, you have been central to the Primary Care effort. I have had the pleasure of vaccinating my general practice Teams Vaccinating My General Practice teams and pharmacy teams and they have done teams and pharmacy teams and they have done an incredible job in keeping have done an incredible job in keeping going. Thank you, and thats reflect these updated symptoms . Thank you, and thats a reflect these updated symptoms . Thank you, and thats a really Thank You, and thats a really important question about how we make sure that black and black Afro Caribbean communities have confidence in a Vaccination Programme. I looked at the data before coming on today. Looking at the uptake amongst Phase One, where you are absolutely right to say if you are absolutely right to say if you look at the data and you index on ethnicity and income, then black and Afro Caribbean communities have effectively been trailing behind the white community. Since the 1st of april, to date, the additional uptake in the white communities is about 3 , and that was starting at a very high level, so therefore that 3 is good going. But actually in black and black Afro Caribbean, it grew by 7 and amongst the pakistanI Community it grew by 10 . Some of the statistics that nikki referred to is because of the Uptake Strategy i launched on the 13th of february, which is all about making sure we share data with the directors of Public Health locally and we make sure we give them the resources to make sure they have community champions. £23 million went into that. And giving gps the ability, because we may use the contracts more flexible, to be able to hold pp up5 more flexible, to be able to hold Pop Ups and some of the other sites, extending the hours for people to come forward. Having vaccines in places where people are familiar with and they trust. All of that is working. There is more to do. In the past week we launched the toolkit, a really short, sharp, Concise Toolkit on how to make sure we take the best learnings of how people have reached out to black and black Afro Caribbean communities and got people the confidence to come forward and get vaccinated and how we can scale that two other areas and that is all ongoing and im confident we will continue to meet that. On the Delta Variant, i think its important that we make sure we are always updating our Information And Nikki will say something around this in terms of what the symptoms may be. The most important thing to remember is please come forward and get your second jab if you are over 40. Make that appointment after eight weeks, not 12 weeks. And those who are now eligible for a first dose, anyone over 18 can come forward to get a first dose as well because that offers you a quite high levels of protection, not so much against infection is a double dose but certainly against serious Illness And Hospitalisation. Every conversation counts, we have to keep going. We owe it to local communities to make sure we build confidence and every time i am in surgery i have a conversation where Somebody Tips saying no to maybe or maybe two yes and that is what makes a difference. Sometimes we see huge Increases Week on week and sometimes they are smaller but every single vaccine we give is another person protected. There was a lovely story at the weekend where somebody who was in her early 20s wrote her grandma in who hadnt been vaccinated because she had the confidence and she brought along that confidence and her grandma was able to be protected from an ethnic Minority Background and i think we will see more of that as well as younger people take up that really take responsibility i know they feel they want to make sure of their communities are protected. One of the problems with these common symptoms is a difficult problems with these common symptoms is a difficult to can also link to the infection but i think the key message the infection but i think the key message is people are being tested without message is people are being tested without symptoms and that is because we know without symptoms and that is because we know that as infection causes asymptomatic disease quite commonly and a lot asymptomatic disease quite commonly and a lot of asymptomatic disease quite commonly and a lot of our testing i was being done and a lot of our testing i was being done in and a lot of our testing i was being done in asymptomatic people using lateral done in asymptomatic people using Lateral Flow Devices etc, i dont think Lateral Flow Devices etc, i dont think theres any evidence we are missing think theres any evidence we are missing cases more with this variant than with missing cases more with this variant than with the other variants that preceded than with the other variants that preceded it. The main message is about preceded it. The main message is about obviously keeping the hands face space, the air and if you do have face space, the air and if you do have symptoms and you are in any doubt have symptoms and you are in any doubt come have symptoms and you are in any doubt come forward and get tested but you doubt come forward and get tested but you can get tested in the absence but you can get tested in the absence of symptoms as well, so obviously absence of symptoms as well, so obviously that is all important as part of obviously that is all important as part of our obviously that is all important as part of our drive to make sure we can People Part of our drive to make sure we can people spreading the infection, but the can people spreading the infection, but the single most important thing of course but the single most important thing of course is the Vaccination Programme. I have think we have to strain every sinew to make sure we reach every community because all the evidence i have seen is that it is about access to the vaccine, whether it be in haringey where they had teams going out going out to people and explaining when the mobile Vaccination Unit may be in the area or helping them to pick that appointment, it is about sharing data with the local symptoms and government and Public Health and the conversations. I will never forget when nicky was right at the beginning of this Programme Vaccinating in one of our residential care homes for the elderly, and it is she spent a whole day there doing the residence and then the workforce. 0ne Lady refused to have the vaccine from i think the black and Afro Caribbean community but it took nicky about five hours she told me of really allowing the lady to ask the questions and have those questions are addressed and before she left she tapped her on the shoulder and said, i will take that vaccine. I think we have to keep going and it is incumbent on all of us to keep doing this, but i think in many ways it will be that double vaccination and protection, and our ability to test at Scale And Surge Test And Gene sequence was of the two things will go Hand In Hand In the sense that we offer the protection of the vaccine because we know vaccines work but also to control the spread of the virus because we are going to have to live with the virus and we will transition it as we are beginning to do now from pandemic to endemic. We also have to help the rest of the world. I dont think we will ever stop doing it, emily. I dont think know if. This isnt new. We have stru . Led know if. This isnt new. In terms of how the virus behaves and mutations, it continues to mutate, thatis mutations, it continues to mutate, that is what viruses do, they try to survive by infecting people and then mutating to try and evade out vaccine. The good news is that the vaccines we are deploying, both Pfizer Biontech and 0ster Astrazeneca and moderna vaccines are incredibly effective after the Delta Variant after two doses in terms of transmission but also on hospitalisation and serious infection, so that is the good news. The other bit of good news is we have probably one of the largest Gene Sequencing infrastructures in the world, the reason this country picks up these variants early, the 117 early on for the e16 7. 2, the Delta Variant or other variants because viruses will continue to mutate, that is the important capability to our future and then you talk about certification. We know a number of countries will require some form of certificate, as i have done historic whether there is Yellow Fever has put certification in the past which is why on the 17th Of May we made the operationalising of that possible with either the app or a letter that you can receive demonstrating that you can receive demonstrating that you have been vaccinated. And we will continue to work with other countries through the Travel Task Force to see how we can build a log is really good progress in the Vaccination Programme so that we can have the use of double vaccination with testing, open up more of our economy. I was at wembley for that first England Match against croatia and it actually worked incredibly well, part of the Events Trial of going for a lateral Flow Test beforehand because i hadnt have enough time for my second vaccination and one of the rules was you had to have either double vaccinated and have 14 days after or a lateral Flow Test within 24 hours of the event. So a combination of as a way forward and were looking at all that the moment to see how we can open up more of our economy and of course make sure that we work with other countries to facilitate travel globally because we need to get the Travel Industry back on its feet. 0n the Delta Variant, i know mary and public Health Thing and theyre doing an incredible work and keeping an eye on all the variants and at them and they think the variant is under investigation and they come to us and we work together to make sure the resources are there to make sure the resources are there to be able to really test and then Gene Sequence or when it moves to A Variant of concern, then we go even further with that. I variant of concern, then we go even further with that. Further with that. I think we have the best system further with that. I think we have the best system in further with that. I think we have the best system in the further with that. I think we have the best system in the world the best system in the world probably for picking up these cases. We have only seen 41 of the particular variant with this additional mutation in this country, so that is very small. We are obviously around those cases we will do enhanced testing and follow ups. I think we are on top of the situation and i think we continue to be vigilant but the good message is that what we expected to happen with delta was that the vaccines would prove to still work against them more serious disease and we expect the same for this other variant. But there is also the option of having different vaccines in the future and that is something we will have to continue monitoring, so vigilance is our best friend here against these mutations. To stop these messages and misleading information . Really im ortant misleading information . Really important question misleading information . Really important question around misleading information . Really. Important question around some misleading information . Really important question around some of this what i think malign Information Or Disinformation i should say, and with those examples you gave are completely untrue, vaccines are incredibly safe. We have one of the best regulators, independent of government, the mhra and we have the yellow Card System that reports any adverse incidents and that is all published by the mhra and public Health England does an incredible job. We have the former Co Vigils in the uk and we share that with other companies in the world like the us and europe and elsewhere, it is incredibly important but assertive this information is incredibly harmful to communities and also globally. I want to say couple of things. We have a unit that we stood up things. We have a unit that we stood up back in march or april of last year, the Cabinet Office that looks at this information, it works with the Social Networks to highlight it to them and take it down as quickly as possible. There are important thing is to share the real information, to share the accurate information, to share the accurate information, to share the accurate information, to go to your gp, or your local Health Centre or to log onto nhs websites and get that or the public outing and websites for the public outing and websites for the Mhra Website and get all those questions answered. That is the important thing. The other thing we are doing as part of our presidency of the g7 is we have taken on a global campaign working with a number of global partners and academic institutions to get that positive information about vaccines to the rest of the world because this is an equally challenging problem of misinformation in vaccinating the whole world, and as i have always said no one is safe until we are all safe. So how ways scattered, is it a Pop Up in Brent Mosque which i visited, we should be able to repeat that in black churches or in Community Centres and elsewhere, we did a tremendous thing with acne with Diane Abbott where Thejewish Community on a saturday night, we went in, the people they trusted, we had first responders in the community, we empowered them, the nhs given the resources to be able to hold that Vaccination Site on a Saturday Evening and they did the communications to the community and we had 364 are ready hasidicjewish members of the community and some muslim families came forward and got vaccinated. What we are doing is learning from what works whether it is the Haringey Example of teams going in and literally help people begin or they walk in clinics advertising actual clinics where you dont need to have your Nhs Number available to you, you still get that vaccination. We have seen that in parts of london in chinatown, Vaccination Bus went in and i think they got over 500 people who are eligible in Phase One who hadnt come forward and been vaccinated came out and got excited, so it is the access to the accent that is making a real difference. It is hard, but it is incumbent on all of us to take what works and really scale it between now and the 19th Of July so that we protect as many people and of course we. There, well keep going to make sure that everyone who has had their first dose gets their second is and we protect as many people. It is down to organisations like your own Media Voices who will help us get into homes and communities and remind people that it is notjust the first dose but it is the second dose that is all important. Thank you for that. I think it is just to add to what the most of the same. We wont stop. We will keep going. It is the dunkirk spirit, the country coming together to get their lives back. Get the first and also that second jab as soon as you are eligible. Studio that is the end of the latest Downing Street briefing. He urged everyone to take the covid jab. He said there were still some Vaccine Hesitancy particularly in minority ethnic groups. Lets Take A Look at the key points. Mr Zaha Week gave an update on the Vaccination Programme and to confirm three out of five adults have now received the second vaccine does. He went on to announce that the Vaccination Programme has already saved more than 14,000 lives and prevent it more than 44,000 hospitalisations and england. He also said the latest 0ns Figures show Vaccine Hesitancy have had among black and asian people since february but says there is much more to do and has urged people from those communities to continue coming forward to get theirjab. 0ur Health Correspondent Catherine Burns has been sent all that. Latest figures suggest that for Black British People Vaccine i for Black British people Vaccine Hesitancy stands at around 21 . That is compared to 6 for the wider population. You can see there is a real issue there. There was a lot of very positive talk about how the progress has been made and that is undeniable, but still if you look at figures going back to the 9th Of June looking out over 50s with their first dose, 94 of white people have had their first dose, 85 South Asian, up from 75 , and 68 of black people up from 55 , so you can see there is a lot of work to do there, which they acknowledged. Nadhim zahawi talked about straining every sin saying they would not stop here, saying this is hard and difficult but we have to keep doing it. Doctor niki was very interesting in the way she described come and get your vaccine, it has your name on it, it is not too late if you havent come because it is an evergreen offer. I think overall most of what we heard was very encouraging. The very large reductions in deaths and hospitalisations from the vaccines, the fact they are as effective against the Delta Variant and a real difference is the very Eye Haptic is made to the nhs and everyone in the country, so i think overall the message was positive, but there are areas of still need to be worked on particularly in terms of attic amongst certain groups, but i think the overall message is we are making good progress. The the overall message is we are making good progress good progress. The minister was sa in good progress. The minister was saying that good progress. The minister was saying that vaccine good progress. The minister was saying that Vaccine Hesitancy, i good progress. The minister was | saying that Vaccine Hesitancy, the uptake has increased in the last few weeks amongst those groups they are worried about. We heard from our correspondence there that particularly among the black community the take up lags quite some way behind the white population and that must be cause for concern. It is true that amongst South Asians, there has been a significant improvement over the last couple of months. Rights are almost as high as lights now and some are slightly lower. There are some reasons partly because of problems with Vaccine Trials in America And Africa and serve this community are a bit more suspicious and it is something we have been working on with government and the nhs and local partners of the last six months to really tackle the last six months to really tackle the misinformation people still receive as we heard in a Press Conference and to make sure people understand the truth of these vaccines that they are safe and effective and dont have these horrible Side Effects that people claim and i think we have begun to see the fruits of the efforts but there is still work to be done. White how should that there is still work to be done. White how should that work be done, at a local level . White how should that work be done, at a local level . For white how should that work be done, at a local level . For myself, white how should that work be done, at a local level . For myself, i white how should that work be done, at a local level . For myself, i have worked in the Front Line, at a local level . For myself, i have worked in the Front Line, many worked in the Front Line, many events, to take the message to all the skd leaders as well as meeting in person when possible, and it involves thousands of individual interactions with small groups across, most of my work has been with the South Asian community and also the polish community, the black african and black caribbean communities and they all have different concerns. It takes a lot of Effort And Patience to answer the questions but more than 90 of the time once you answer those questions the people are happy to take the vaccine and there is a lot more confidence now because they have seen their older relatives and parents and grandparents taking the vaccine and they havent had horrible Side Effects and so that is one of the reasons why things are improving, but we still have to keep on going and it will take a bit longer. The other important point is South Asians and blacks tend to be much younger than the white population. 50 of blacks in South Asians are ageless of 50, so it is only more recently, they were even eligible to take the Vaccine And Thatis eligible to take the vaccine and that is one of the reasons why overall they are somewhat behind. Good to talk to you. Dr Philippa Whitford is the snps health spokesperson. Good afternoon. The World Health Organization describe it as three features, complacency, confidence in the vaccine, so dealing with misinformation, but most of all convenience. I dont think anyone is very complacent about covid, so it is about getting accurate information out and making it incredibly easy for people to access the vaccine. In scotland we have also contracted from a 12 Week Gap to an eight Week Gap for everyone right down to 18, so the whole programme is being accelerated largely driven by the Delta Variant which frankly we could maybe have avoided in the first place. White Thank You so much. Sophie raworth is coming up with the Bbc News at 6. Now its time for a look at the weather with darren. Hello, there. It is a much better Day Today across southern and eastern parts. The sun is out and the winds are lighter as well. Towards the northwest, the weather has changed somewhat. We have seen all this Cloud Spilling In from the atlantic, moving very, very slowly southwards. The cloud is thick enough to bring some pockets of rain and drizzle. Mainly around more western areas. To the east of high ground, the skies are brighter, drier and a bit warmer. From the midlands this is where we have the Sunnier Skies and temperatures of 22 degrees. Through this evening and overnight, this cloud moves very slowly towards the south bringing with it some further light rains and drizzle. Some mistiness over the hills and coasts. It is quite clear across east anglia. Here it will be quite chilly, i think, overnight. Elsewhere, a warm night underneath all of that cloud. Weve got a pocket of warmer and also more humid air coming down across the uk during tomorrow. That warmer air is in between these two Weather Fronts. This one to the north will bring some wetter weather to the North West. This Weather Front here is producing the light rain and drizzle. It will be affecting northern england and wales in the morning. That will move its way through the midlands. Bringing more cloud. Cooler air is coming into the northwest of scotland, but across northern parts of england and wales, as It Brightens up through the day, we will get some sunshine. Temperatures could reach 23 or 24c there. The warmest part of the country. Those Weather Fronts continue to run towards the south overnight into friday. It will lower the Pressure And Mess things up, really, towards the end of the week. Lots of cloud around on friday. Some showers, longer spells of rain. It should become drier in scotland. There is a northerly breeze in scotland and it will keep the temperatures pegged back. Highs of around 20 or 21 towards the midlands and eastern parts of england. Into the weekend, we have got higher pressure across the northern half of the uk, so it should be dry, increasing amounts of sunshine as the weekend goes on and temperatures will rise again a bit as well. Further south, it is not a wash out, but there is still a risk of showers, particularly on saturday. Hopefully a bit more sunshine on sunday.
