What did Steve benefit from his Army time? "So much," Lyne said. "For starters, you gain the understanding that your ability to overcome any supposed physical and mental limitations is far beyond what you may have come to believe. "And there's this acronym call 'METL.' It stands for 'Mission Essential Task Listing' and it becomes a help not just for your mission but in everyday life, as well. "Oh," he adds, with a bit of a sardonic smile. "I learned that (chemical protective) charcoal suits and gas masks can be pretty rough in hot weather." Lyne comes from Army stock: his father, Kenneth Ahmed, earned three battle stars operating in I Corps' "Iron Triangle" in 1966-67 as a combat infantryman; and cousins Mark and Chris both served – the latter in Special Forces.
