A look back at 2020: 10 inspiring images show hope, resilience on Staten Island Updated Jan 01, 2021; Facebook Share STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- It was a time like no other. The year 2020 will be forever remembered for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic -- with the global crisis hitting New York City in March, bringing with it sorrow and tragedy of unparalleled proportions. Yet, Staten Islanders showed -- and continue to demonstrate -- amazing resilience through it all. The Advance/SILive.com was able to publish some incredible images of hope throughout the year. As we combed through the photos -- some taken by our photographers, others submitted to us -- we found so much to be grateful for over the past 12 months. Moments such as 11 newborn babies pictured together prior to the pandemic, a 60-year-old coronavirus patient being released from the hospital, and, of course, small acts of kindness.
