Jackie Silvestri, a 24-year-old University at Albany graduate who used her marketing degree to build the
518 Foodies brand into a 39,000-member Facebook group and start the
Downtown Dough cookie business, is opening a restaurant. Called Farmhouse Tap + Tavern, it is taking over 186 Main St. in Altamont, former home of Veronica’s Culinary Tavern and, before that, the wine bar Mio Vino. She is the sole owner of the new venture, backed by investment from family and friends, she said.
Silvestri, who aside from the approximately 2,400 cookies she bakes weekly has no experience as a restaurant proprietor, said her lifelong love of restaurants further strengthened as she built 518 Foodies. The East Berne resident said the menu will focus on pub fare made with locally sourced products when possible. She said it will include burgers and, using the existing wood-fired oven, chicken wings and pizza.
