BERLIN TOWNSHIP — A premier high school basketball event in the country, Classic in the Country has taken a major hit this year. But Classic coordinators are pleased to be able to continue to play the games, even if it is a scaled down event. Classic in the Country is preparing for its 18th annual showcase Jan. 16-18, over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend, featuring 20 games. Since the inaugural event in 2004, more than 1,000 college coaches and 300,000 fans have descended upon the Perry Reese Jr. Community Center at Hiland High School to see a collection of some of the best high school girls basketball players in the country go at it in an atmosphere that celebrates competition and diversity.
