The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) on Tuesday approved updates to guidelines for the upcoming spring tournaments and a location for the first-ever State Girls Wrestling Tournament.
The WIAA’s board, per an official release, voted to remove mask mandates for spectators for outdoor spring state tournaments “if appropriate social distancing can be attained. Masks are encouraged for everyone not participating if social distancing is difficult. Masks remain required for spectators for any competitions conducted indoors.”
The board also reduced the timeline for quarantine after close contact with a positive case from 14 to six days, barring any symptoms, and stated “vaccinated student-athletes are not required to be quarantined for close contact if they are symptom free.”

HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) – Despite dropping vaccine demand, efforts continue to get shots in arms in our community.
“The epidemic is spreading primarily in school-aged children and college-aged kids,” La Crosse County Health Department vaccination clinic manager Dr. Michael White said.
In hopes of slowing down COVID spread in La Crosse County schools, the Fine Arts Center at Holmen High School held a vaccination clinic for its students 16 years and up Friday.
“This is the target group that needs the vaccine most urgently,” White said. “We’re seizing the opportunity to vaccinate students before the end of the school year.”

We need to get our arms around the students that fell incredibly behind in their academics this past year, said Westlie. We need to make sure that their benchmarks get caught up. We need to do everything we can, whether it s jam-packing the summer school schedule, extra assistance, tutoring, anything to get help get these kids to get caught back up to where they should be.
