Four Australian cinemas have been recognised on Time Out s top 50 most beautiful cinemas in the world list.
They included The Astor and The Sun Theatre in Melbourne as well as Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace and Golden Age Cinema in Sydney.
The four all date back to the mid-1930s or early 1940s and have an art deco style.
The Astor, Melbourne
The highest-ranking Australian movie theatre was Melbourne s Astor Theatre, which was listed as the seventh most beautiful cinema in the world.
Located in the suburb of St Kilda, the classic, single screen theatre dates back to 1936, features a magnificent auditorium with dress circle and a beautiful golden curtain that drapes over the screen before the movie starts.
As you might know Valentine’s Day is the worst day in the calendar year for everyone. Either A) you’re single and feel shit because you’re single or B) you’re in a relationship and your other half fucks up by forgetting to get you a present or book a table somewhere. To be honest, I’ve been both and maybe that’s why I’m extremely cynical. But here’s my hot take: If it’s not a public holiday, I don’t give a toss.
