The life-altering impact that a disaster has on our lives is more pronounced now than at any time in recent memory. Much like a catastrophic hurricane, the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the fortunes of people from different walks of life, bringing both health and financial challenges that threaten our long-term safety.
For many this means facing a reality that endangers their ability to provide basic needs for themselves or their families for the first time in their lives. Their once-steady jobs – and in some cases, the businesses in which they work – are indefinitely on hold or altogether gone.

It was 343 days ago that the first case of COVID-19 found its way into this place we call home. Since then, we have all changed our lives in previously unthinkable ways – and swiftly, too.
What we all expected to be a brief moment in time has unfortunately become a daily hardship for many of our neighbors, local business owners and families. Fortunately, in the face of so much unknown, people of all ages and means rose time and again to the call to provide strangers in our community stability and security through Season of Sharing during an otherwise overwhelming moment in history.
Season of Sharing highlighted on Fox News Sunday
The Community Foundation of Sarasota County received national media attention on Sunday for its work in assisting individuals and families who are struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Roxie Jerde, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, spoke Sunday on “America’s News HQ,” a Fox News weekend television show, about the Season of Sharing campaign bringing the community together during the pandemic.
Jerde spoke on the segment called “America Together” about the impact Season of Sharing has had locally over its 21-year history. Jerde highlighted that Season of Sharing has long been a conduit for “neighbors to help neighbors” in times of crisis through its network of local nonprofit partners.
