Morning newspaper closing printing plant; 95 workers impacted
Staff Report
The Herald-Tribune and its parent company Gannett plan to shutter the local newspaper’s printing plant on May 2, the company announced on Thursday.
The closing is the result of further consolidation in the newspaper industry, which is seeking more efficient ways to create its product without impacting its customers.
Production of the 95-year-old Herald-Tribune and three other publications printed at its plant at the corner of University Parkway and U.S. 301 – the Bradenton Herald, Fort Myers News-Press and Naples Daily News – will be moved to Gannett Florida’s Treasure Coast plant on the state’s east coast.
