Reverend Henry Brown comforted the mother of 3-year-old Randell Jones who police say was shot and killed on Saturday. “It’s hurt. I can’t even express my words the way I feel, aunt Johanna Vazquez said.
Family members shared a picture of the child.
“He was always playful, laughing. He was so smiling with everybody, Nidia Garba, another family member, said.
A vigil took place at the intersection of Garden and Nelson Streets Monday, not far from where someone – for some reason – fired into a car with the boy, his mother, two siblings and a male passenger who police believe was the intended target.
More than 100 people gathered in front of a North End bodega Monday evening expressing their grief, frustration and fear after a 3-year-old boy was shot dead on the same corner two days earlier on a bloody day in a Hartford neighborhood that has long grappled with gun violence.

HARTFORD, Conn. The Hartford community gathered Monday night for a vigil to remember three-year old Randell Jones.
Jones was one of two victims in Saturday s back-to-back shootings in broad daylight.
The vigil generated a large and emotional response.
The victim being a toddler made many community members realize just how bad the violence in the city has gotten. I mean, three years old! Didn’t even have a chance to see life! said Thomas Lumpkin of Hartford.
Lumpkin was one of many people who attended to send his condolences at the memorial.
