RICHMOND â When Meredithâs son, who is transgender, started his freshman year at Henrico High School in 2017, Meredith emailed his teachers asking them to use his preferred name and pronouns. She said the teachers were more than willing to comply.
However, getting his name changed in the school s online system was a little more challenging, said Meredith, who asked that only her first name and her son s first initial E be used for privacy reasons. There were hiccups along the way â the school would not update his name in the system before it was legally changed.

RICHMOND, Va. A mural honoring the life of a rising rapper who called Richmond home was unveiled Saturday.
Twenty-one-year-old Braxton Baker was living in Atlanta when she died in November.
The Henrico High School graduateâs breakthrough moment came in 2017 with the release of her debut mixtape VERSE(atility). That gained attention from thousands on social media.
J. Ford the Artist painted the mural, which is located on the side of Da Spot recording studio on Brookland Park Boulevard on the cityâs Northside.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. Henrico County high school seniors will graduate, in person, at ceremonies held inside the Richmond Raceway, county school officials announced Friday. Richmond Racewayâs size will enable each schoolâs graduating seniors to gather as a group and take part in a traditional ceremony, accepting their diplomas in person, a Henrico Schools spokesperson wrote in an email. HENRICO Co., Va. (WWBT) - Henrico County Public Schools will hold in-person, traditional graduation ceremonies where seniors will be able to gather as a group and accept their diplomas.
Nine high school and two Advanced Career Education center ceremonies will hold ceremonies at the Richmond Raceway June 14-17. The Academy at Virginia Randolph will hold its graduation ceremony on June 9 at the Virginia Randolph Recreation Area.
