LISD to continue mask policy, despite some parental objections
Lubbock ISD keeping mask mandate in place By Melanie Camacho | March 11, 2021 at 11:04 PM CST - Updated March 11 at 11:11 PM
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The LISD School Board has chosen to continue with their mask mandate for now, although some board members propose revisiting the issue a couple weeks after Spring Break.
The district looks to the Texas Education Agency for guidance, and recently, the TEA said school boards have the ability to change the mask policy through formal action.
On Thursday, Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Rollo, said she recommended keeping the mask policy for now. Lubbock Public Health Director Katherine Wells supported the decision, saying she is also in favor of masks.

Patients with coronavirus have been discharged from a hospital and infected family members, a councillor claimed.
Heather Kidd said a woman in south Shropshire told her that her husband had been sent home with Covid .
She initially found evidence of four cases but said those were the tip of the iceberg with more coming to light.
The medical director of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) said they were following guidelines, but would look into the concerning cases.
Ms Kidd, a Liberal Democrat member of Shropshire Council, said the daughter of one of the patients who was discharged was a teacher who had been unable to go into school after she contracted the virus.
A GROUP of south Shropshire councillors are urging people to do their bit to cut the amount of litter on roadside verges. They are asking residents to take their litter home if they are travelling and report any concentrations of rubbish either to them or to the council. Shropshire Councillor for Bishop’s Castle Ruth Houghton said: “Recurring periods of lockdown has had a major impact on our rural areas both in terms of collection of litter coupled with a serious upsurge in litter being dropped on the roadside especially at beauty spots which are still attracting visitors from outside our area.”
