Fresh off a narrow loss for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Democrat Jevin Hodge announced Monday he is running for Congress in the area represented by Republican David Schweikert.
Hodge, 27, enters the race against the six-term incumbent as Democrats begin a new effort to win in the northeast Valley, an area that moved in their direction during the Trump era, but not nearly enough to win in a historically conservative part of metro Phoenix.

Longtime Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald could trade his helmet for a veto pen.
In a poll of the state’s most well-liked public figures, Fitzgerald topped OH Predictive Insights’ first power ranking of Arizona’s public figures in terms of net favorability.
The pollsters said the rankings come ahead of an election cycle in 2022, when a U.S. Senate seat and the offices of governor and attorney general will be on the ballot.
“Every important statewide office, congressional district, legislative district, and a Senate seat will all be on the ballot next year,” said Mike Noble, OHPI chief of research. “With that in mind, it’s important to get a sense of potential candidates early. The OHPI Power Rankings do just that.”

And across town in Washington DC, a quartet of members of the US House of Representatives of Indian-origin have all been re-elected.
They are called the ‘samosa caucus’. The term was coined by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, referrng to himself as well as three others – Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal and Ro Khanna. All four are Democrats, and they once counted Harris, who was a Senator, among their ranks.
Coronavirus: Arizona is leading the world in the rate of new cases

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads at an alarming rate across Arizona, the state now leads the world in COVID-19 cases per capita.
According to 91-divoc.com, a tracking site that compares outbreaks worldwide using data from Johns Hopkins University, Arizona has the highest number of new COVID-19 cases per day when adjusted for population. The state’s current seven-day average is 131.6 new cases per day per 100,000 people.
“We are in the thick of this crisis,” Dr. Hiral Tipirneni, Emergency Medicine Physician and former candidate for Congress in Arizona s 6th District told Yahoo Finance. “Times are very scary. Health workers are exhausted and our resources are being used to full capacity.”
