Hanford High alum has dream come true with Miami Marlins | News

HANFORD — After more than a decade in the minor leagues as a coach, Keith Johnson will get his opportunity in the MLB. The Hanford High School alum was named the first-base coach for the Miami Marlins in December. He was previously the manager of the Marlins’ Triple A affiliates the last two seasons. “To get this opportunity, it’s a dream come true,” Johnson, who graduated from Hanford High in 1989, said. “I’m just excited for the team, I’m excited for the season to get going and see us take another step forward in what hopefully becomes a lot of championships.”

Chamber of commerce hosts picnic in the park

HANFORD — Families gathered on Saturday morning for the Hanford Chamber of Commerce’s Picture Day/Picnic in the Park for their upcoming mobile app. Amory Marple, CEO and executive director of the Hanford Chamber of Commerce, said she noticed more people were coming out to Civic Park and after bouncing around ideas with parks and recreation and Main Street Hanford, she decided to invite people to come to the park. “This year, we didn’t have any events to take pictures at and we need them to use for our print material,” Marple said. “I didn’t want to use pictures from the years before because it’s just not a true representation of current times.”

Mass vaccination efforts continue in Kings County

HANFORD — The weekend marked another successful mass vaccination clinic at Sierra Pacific High School with 2,700 COVID-19 vaccines administered. The public vaccination event was the eighth of its kind for Adventist Health and the second hosted by Sierra Pacific, after the first clinic vaccinated about 1,000 residents on Jan. 30. On Saturday, 1,200 second doses were administered to the aforementioned first group. 1,500 residents received their first dose of the vaccine on Sunday. “For today, the new people, they’re happy,” Dr. Raul Ayala, ambulatory medical officer for Adventist Health, said. “They’ve just been waiting to get their vaccine and they’re happy today.”
