Hanford Planning Commissioner Roger Snow sent a letter of resignation to the City Monday evening, following the resignation of commissioner Jason Kemp Van Ee earlier in the day over controversial Facebook posts.
In his letter, Snow said he was resigning for three reasons: because the City Council considered removing Kemp Van Ee over his social media activity; the Council s response to the commission voting in opposition to their direction; and because he missed a third meeting â he is only allowed to miss three.
âI am upset that my only recourse is to leave because I have learned so much from serving,â Snow wrote. âI will now take a more active role in my participation as a resident and will see you in the future.â
Planning Commission member Jason Kemp Van Ee submitted his resignation Monday after the City Council agreed to discuss his removal following questionable social media activity.
City Attorney Ty Mizote sent Kemp Van Ee a letter in early June outlining two major issues with his social media activity; false information about city activity on a council memberâs Facebook page and statements which were âinsensitive towards racial and religious groups.â
Mizote said because the planning commission members serve at the pleasure of the City Council, the body is able to remove Kemp Van Ee.
Kemp Van Ee, however, said his Facebook page is private and shouldnât be taken into consideration by the Council. He said the letter and subsequent council agenda item resulted from comments he made on Councilmember Kalish Morrowâs public Facebook page.
