COLUMBUS, Ohio – When the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championships begin on May 6, there will be a familiar face to Buckeye fans between the pipes for the Swiss National Team.
Andrea Braendli, a Zurich, Switzerland native who recently finished her junior season for the Scarlet and Gray, has gotten the nod as the starting goalie for Team Switzerland. Her team will compete in Group A alongside Canada, Finland, Russia and the United States.
“I was so excited to hear the news,” said Braendli, who is currently training in Switzerland with her teammates. “It’s such a huge honor to represent your country. I’m so grateful, honored and proud to be part of the Swiss team. The whole team and staff have supported me so much.”

McPherson On NCAA Goalie Of The Year Watch List
McPherson is in her first year with the University of Vermont.
Announced by the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association, the list includes 21 goaltenders from across the NCAA. The award will be announced in March at the NCAA Frozen Four.
“Our commissoners group is pleased to make this announcement and add a new and appropriate award to the national landscape,” said Joe Bertagna, Secretary-Treasurer for the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association.
“We hope to name this award as we go forward but for now, we are pleased to offer this recognition to our best female netminders.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior goalkeeper Andrea Braendli on Friday was named to the Hockey Commissioners Association’s Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award watch list. The Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association announced the creation of a new award in the 2020-21 season to recognize the top goaltender in NCAA Division I women’s hockey.
A committee of voters made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, and media will pare the initial watch list of 21 down within the next two weeks and ultimately choose the winner who will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.
