May 12, 1921 The prevalent forest fires in Northwestern Michigan this week, largely due to carelessness during the extremely dry spell, have given the state forces considerable trouble in Wexford County the last few days but now are fairly well under control. Edward Thalman, the state deputy fire warden who has been directing the battle against the Wexford and Manistee fires, today issued a statement of warning calling the attention of all settlers, tourists and fishermen to exercise the utmost caution in setting fires during this dry time. Parties camping along the public highways are asked to aid the department in saving property by extinguishing with care all camp fires. Among the fires which Deputy Thalman has been called on to fight are the following in Wexford: Tuesday, by aid of a large number of volunteers, a bad fire was extinguished in Henderson, where the District No. 2 School was saved. Wexford-Missaukee CTC Students Participate in Mock Crash Scene Response April 29, 2021 Police, fire and EMS all on scene Thursday at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center, but they were only practicing for an emergency. Public safety students got to work alongside first responders at a mock accident scene, similar to what they might be called to one day. “Breaking glass around the patient, covering her with the blanket and then breaking the glass I think that was probably the most surprising thing to me,” said Mesick Senior Oleata Brown. Students took on roles from paramedics to police and firefighters, putting many of the skills they’ve been learning in the classroom to the test.

Woman Arrested in Wexford County on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

9 & 10 News April 9, 2021 Michigan State Police found a hypodermic needle sticking out of a passengers arm during a traffic stop in Wexford County early Friday morning. Troopers stopped a car on 13th Street near north Mitchell Street in Haring Township and noticed a needle in a male passenger’s arm and a capped needle sitting next to him. The passenger said the syringe was loaded with heroin rinse and he did not need medical help. The driver, Sarah Conley, is now facing several vehicle and drug charges, including maintaining a drug house. Troopers say they found meth in her possession after searching the vehicle.
