Happy birthday Nick, sailor yarns, Valentine spins, Town Notes
The Barnstable Patriot
In recognition of what would have been the 33rd birthday of U.S. Marine Corporal Nicholas G. Xiarhos, his namesake foundation and The Cape Cod Foundation partnered last week to issue $33,000 in community support grants. Nicholas lived a life that brought joy and love to people he touched all over the world, a life that was dedicated to serving our great nation and the men and women who defend it, wrote Nicholas father, Steven. With your ongoing love and support, the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation and the Xiarhos Gold Star Family will continue to do everything we can to keep his dedication, his legacy, and his dream alive.

Fireball
Amerigas, in partnership with the Hyannis Fire Department, performed a flaring operation between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday (Dec. 18) to burn off propane vapors in one of their bulk storage tanks at 198 Iyannough Rd. and Route 28.
The process will produce a 20-foot-high flame, which will be visible from many areas of Hyannis. Neighboring businesses and residents are in no immediate danger; this is scheduled maintenance, and the HyFD will be onsite.
Snow day!
Yesterday was a snow day for Barnstable students and staff. The district was closed for in-person and virtual learning. As of press time, school was scheduled to reopen in-person and virtually (depending on your cohort) Friday.
