Annual Westlake fan drive eclipes last year

Officials with Westlake Ace Hardware stores in Hutchinson reported enough was raised during June’s annual fund drive to purchase 174 box` fans to give to those in need. The drive, locally benefitting The Salvation Army, was conducted by Westlake stores nationwide from June 3 to 20, during which the store asked customers to round up purchases at the register. Last year, Hutchinson area Westlake customers donated more than $1,700, which bought 137 fans.  Enough was raised this year to purchase 174 fans, a 27 percent increase. The Hutchinson Salvation Army, 700 N. Walnut, is now giving out fans from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday through Fridays until Aug. 31.

Annual Ace Hardware fan drive starts next week

The drive will be held in the company s 121 stores nationwide from June 3 through 20. During the fan drive, Westlake Ace customers are asked to donate by rounding up their purchases at the register. All donations go toward buying new box fans for the Hutchinson Salvation Army. Last year, local customers donated more than $1,700, equating to 137 fans given to the local Salvation Army for distribution to fellow citizens. “Every year, our customers amaze us with their generous support of the fan drive. By simply rounding up their purchase they are helping people stay cool during the hot summer months,” said Andy Schmitt, vice president and COO of Westlake Ace Hardware. “We are very proud to sponsor the fan drive and help supply fans for The Salvation Army to give to those in need.”

Generosity nearly doubles in Salvation Army children s Christmas program

This year, Hutchinson s Salvation Army gave Christmas gifts to almost double the number of children since last year, said Capt. DJ James of the Salvation Army. Monday morning was the first day people who had pre-registered were able to pick up the Christmas gifts, wrapping paper, and blankets that had been chosen by volunteers last Friday. Families receiving gifts were given a scheduled time to pick up their items. The community has been good. Everyone knows it’s been a hard year for everyone so even if they’re barely able, they want to help The Salvation Army presented gifts to 1,128 children in 504 families. Last year, they helped 599 children.
