In only three days, the students at Holy Cross Catholic Elementary collected 680 items and over $400 in cash and gift cards, said fourth-grade teachers Connie Weesner and Nancy Judy.
This year, Hutchinson s Salvation Army gave Christmas gifts to almost double the number of children since last year, said Capt. DJ James of the Salvation Army.
Monday morning was the first day people who had pre-registered were able to pick up the Christmas gifts, wrapping paper, and blankets that had been chosen by volunteers last Friday. Families receiving gifts were given a scheduled time to pick up their items. The community has been good. Everyone knows it’s been a hard year for everyone so even if they’re barely able, they want to help
The Salvation Army presented gifts to 1,128 children in 504 families. Last year, they helped 599 children.
