Garden visit brings break from duty for family carers

FAMILY carers from Swindon were treated to a relaxing day among the bowers and blooms as part of the National Garden Scheme s support for frontline charities. The visit to the Old Rectory near Wantage was part of a wider initiative to help unpaid carers get a break from the pressures of looking after family members round the clock.  One member of the group from Swindon Carers Centre said: “It’s great to be with other people who understand, I don’t feel so isolated.  I’m grateful I can come to this lovely place and meet carers like me.” Another said: “I really appreciate this opportunity to come here. It’s been absolute heaven, the relief to have a day to myself and be with other carers I can talk to today is immense.”

For Sheri, competing in pageants started as a way to overcome losing confidence when she was bullied in school. She has since won many beauty pageants in the UK. Sheri is using her Miss Atlantic title to set up her Caring4Children platform, inspired by her own experiences.
