Post 8 Wins First Game, Loses Second At Gopher Classic

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Jul 10, 2021 | 9:42 PM MANKATO, MN – Post 8 split its first two games at the Gopher Classic Saturday, beating LeSeur-Henderson (MN) 10-5 before losing to Hopkins (MN) 11-1. Post 8 decided the game against LeSeur-Henderson early, scoring nine runs in the first two innings.  Maguire Raske doubled, singled and drove in two runs.  Andy Gordon had two singles and two RBI.  Jayden Wiebe, Spencer Letellier and Aaron Booth had two singles each.  Winning pitcher Bennett Dean allowed four runs and eight hits in five and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts and three walks. Post 8 (21-16) never led against Hopkins, cutting the lead to 2-1 on a second inning RBI groundout by Andy Gordon.  Hopkins then hit the Eights with a nine-run third inning.

Governors Rout Cobblers In DH Sweep

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews May 5, 2021 9:12 PM PIERRE – Big offense helped Pierre Governor Baseball sweep a doubleheader from Rapid City Central Wednesday at Hyde Stadium 9-3 and 20-4. Pierre (14-4) had 10 hits and jumped ahead quickly in the first game with four runs in the first inning. Maguire Raske and Bennett Dean each had two hits and two RBI.  Dean hit a triple.  Lincoln Kienholz had a double and triple.  Governor pitchers combined to strike out 11 Cobblers. Pierre combined for 16 runs in the first two innings of the second game and had 16 more hits.  Spencer Letellier doubled, tripled and drove in four runs.  Matthew Hanson was four-for-four with three RBI.  Andy Gordon drove in two runs and had three hits.  Jackson Edman and Isaac Polak threw three innings of perfect relief.

Governors Sweep Tigers In Huron

HURON – Pierre Governor Baseball swept a doubleheader in Huron Tuesday, defeating the Tigers 9-5 and 4-1. In the opener, Huron scored five runs in the first inning on only one hit and four walks.  The Governors then rallied four four runs in the second on three errors and a wild pitch.  A Huron error tied the game in the fifth, followed by a Maguire Raske RBI single to give Pierre a 6-5 lead. Spencer Letellier had three hits and an RBI.  Matthew Hanson earned the win with four shutout and hitless innings, striking out four. Pierre scored on an RBI groundout by Jayden Wiebe in the third inning and a sacrifice fly by Lincoln Kienholz in the fourth inning of game 2.  Andy Gordon drove in the other two Governor runs with a sixth-inning single.
