St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Jabil Inc. opened its new health care manufacturing facility in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with 60,000 square feet of manufacturing.
The facility has 36,000 square feet of clean room space and more than 400 employees, which Jabil expects to grow by 250 by the summer of 2021, an April 27 news release said.
The company manufactures medical and diagnostic devices at the facility, including point-of-care molecular diagnostic devices to detect COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
Construction on the new site began in 2019 and was officially operational in February 2021, Michelle Smith, vice president of communications and brand strategy at Jabil, said in an email.

Located in PIISA Industrial Park in Santo Domingo, the new site features over 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space, Jabil officials said in an April 27 news release, including 36,000 square feet of cleanroom space.
The plant currently has more than 400 employees, which Jabil expects to grow by 250 by this summer.
Today marked the official opening of Jabil Inc.’s newly constructed healthcare manufacturing facility in the Dominican Republic. Located in the free trade zone at Bajos de Haina’s PIISA Industrial Park, the plant has more than 60,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity, including 36,000 square feet of cleanroom space. Construction began in 2019.
The operation supports the Jabil Regulated Industries division and will produce a variety of precision medical products, including COVID-19 test kits. A trained workforce of more than 400 manufacturing employees will be joined by another 250 employees by this summer, said Jabil.
Capabilities include injection molding; pad printing and laser marking; RF, ultrasonic, and laser welding; solvent and UV bonding; electrical and functional testing; and manual and automated assembly.
