An accountant who used to stitch together paperwork with a needle and thread is stepping down from one of Norfolk s oldest firms.

Clive Dodds, managing partner and chairman of directors at accountants Stephenson Smart in King s Lynn, is retiring after working with more than 900 clients.
Some of those customers have been on the books since the day Mr Dodds first started out in the King Street office.
Born and raised in Norfolk, Mr Dodds, 66, has seen the 100-year-old company expand from its flagship town office into multiple locations throughout Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, all of which he was instrumental in developing.

Concerns over the future of wet-led pubs were raised by the director of a Lynn ale house following last weekâs Budget announcement.
Michael Baldwin, director of The Bank House and the Wenns Chop and Ale House, put it to MP James Wild that wet-led pubs would would not see any benefits from the five per cent reduced VAT rate for hospitality.
âWe have a lot of wet-led pubs in the area and theyâre not getting the same support,â he said following last weekâs BID Budget Briefing.

King s Lynn BID hosted a virtual Budget Briefing this afternoon to discuss the Chancellor s statement, and how it will directly affect businesses in West Norfolk.
The virtual event, which was held in partnership with Stephenson Smart and Kenneth Bush, provided an opportunity to raise questions on the Chancellor s Budget Statement and the implication for businesses.
West Norfolk MP James Wild said: The chancellor was honest about the challenges but what didnât happen was the immediate tax rises which were expected. I donât think this is a softening up exercise, I wouldn t rule out other changes coming.
