FAIRFIELD Business owners are scheduled to meet once again with city staff to help determine how to spend money that’s designated for the downtown area.
The meeting will take place May 13 at the Downtown Theatre, 1035 Texas St.

It would be the first pay hike for the council members since 1988.
City Manager Stefan Chatwin also noted that the elected city clerk and city treasurer have not had their salaries increased since 1988, either.
The vote was 5-2 with Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro and Councilwoman Pam Bertani dissenting.
The council was given three options to consider.
• Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month based on population. The option follows state code.
• Increase salary from $500 per month to $600 per month, with a 5% annual increase for each calendar year dating back to 1989. This increase would equate to $1,300 per month.

FAIRFIELD City Council members halted its review of retail cannabis permits Tuesday based on concerns raised about how the company hired to review and score applications ultimately ranked those applications.
The City Council was expected to continue a public hearing and then grant preliminary approval for two cannabis retail permits.
The public hearing on the retail permits was carried over from the March 2 meeting.
There were five finalists for the two retail permits. The five finalists have already made 15-minute presentations to the council.

FAIRFIELD The City Council is expected Tuesday to grant preliminary approval for two cannabis retail permits and one manufacturer’s permit.
The public hearing on the retail permits was carried over from the March 2 meeting. There are five finalists for the two permits.
There is only one applicant for the manufacturer’s permit, 3Bros. Fairfield, which plans to locate the business at 2445 S. Watney Way if it gets the permit.
There are five applicants for the two retail permits. The two potential vendors that scored the highest in the application steps were Responsible & Compliant Retail Fairfield LLC, which proposes a location of 180 Serrano, Suite A, and East of Eden North Bay LLC, which proposes a location at 1740 Travis Blvd.
City manager seeks to share state of the Fairfield updates with clubs, organizations

FAIRFIELD City Manager Stefan Chatwin wants to share city updates and plans with the community over the coming months.
Community groups or organizations can request a meeting with the city manager beginning May 1 and continuing through August.
Chatwin will provide an update on the city’s financial status, an overview of the city’s accomplishments in 2020, as well as the City Council’s goals for Fairfield in 2021.
These 30-minutes talks offer a chance for community members to ask questions and learn more about the status of the city from the city manager.
