Artists display talent at senior center

Thu, 05/13/2021 - 7:37am admin1 By:  Amy Frankl-Brandt ALGONA The Algona Senior Center and the Stinson Prairie Arts Council teamed up to hold an exhibit of local artist at the Senior Center May 5, 6 and 7. Wednesday morning the Senior Center hosted a coffee and people were able to meet the artists and purchase pieces they had for sale. Thursday morning held an art class given by Anne Kohlhaas. Door prizes were also given that were donated by businesses and individuals.    Section: 

SPAC announces Student Art Show winners

Wed, 04/28/2021 - 9:41am admin1 By:  Amy Frankl-Brandt ALGONA Olivia Frankl of Algona High School won the Best of Show award at the Stinson Prairie Arts Council (SPAC) Student Art Show and reception on Friday, April 23.  Entries from Algona High School, Bishop Garrigan High School and West Bend-Mallard High School were on display at Eastland Hills Plaza last Friday morning in conjunction with the Chamber Coffee hosted by SPAC.   Get all of the show results and see the photos of the winners and their winning art in the April 29 Advance. Local nonprofits seek funds from Algona; street bid comes in low; daycare funding OK d

Wed, 02/10/2021 - 9:10am admin1 By:  Brad Hicks ALGONA Seven community organizations requested funds from the city of Algona for the next budget year. Some of their representatives provided information about their activities and details about their requests during a city council work session Monday evening, Feb. 8. Six of the seven asked for the same amount received a year ago: The Algona Family YMCA, the Active Senior Citizens of Algona (senior center), the Kossuth County C.A.R.E. Team, Kossuth County Food Pantry, the Crisis Intervention Center and the Northwest Iowa RSVP. Stinson Prairie Arts Council has not previously requested funds but did for next year.
