Sounding off: We don t have freedom to harm others

Tribune-Review AP A family wears protective face masks as they leave the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, Tuesday, Jan. 5. Los Angeles is the epicenter of California’s surge that is expected to get worse in coming weeks when another spike is expected after people traveled or gathered for Christmas and New Year’s. Much of the state is under a stay-home order and open businesses are operating with limited capacity.   TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. I weep with all the health care workers, families and caregivers who, on top of dealing with covid-19, must listen to the hate spewed forth in the name of “personal freedoms.” Yes, it is hate. Letter to the editor: Will Joyce and Reschenthaler need pardons?

TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. Despite numerous federal and state courts having ruled that there are no specific credible allegations or supporting evidence associated with the allegations of widespread voter fraud in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, local congressional representatives John Joyce and Guy Reschenthaler found it necessary to sign onto the seditious abuse of judiciary submitted to the Supreme Court by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to overturn the certified election results in Pennsylvania and their other states. If their appeal were accepted, the results of the “most secure election in modern history” would have been be overturned, disenfranchising all Pennsylvanians and millions of other Americans and effectively ending the Democratic republic we have enjoyed in the United States for the last 244 years. This is a clear breach of their oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution.

Chico City Council Seeks Ban On Needle Programs

Credit Mel Evans / AP Photo The city of Chico will explore any options it may have to ban sterile needle access programs within city limits.  The City Council approved the move Tuesday in a 5-2 vote, with members Alex Brown and Scott Huber opposed.    Huber said a syringe services program (SSP) that had been operating in the city lacked adequate needle disposal requirements. However, he noted the programs help reduce transmission of hepatitis and HIV. “I personally believe that a syringe exchange is a needed compromise. But the banning of any and all future SSPs eliminates a useful tool in reducing disease and reducing IV drug use,” Huber said.
