Space Coast Symphony plans concert of fan favorites
Dying for some Debussy? Missing Mozart? Pining for Prokofiev? You’re in luck, then, because Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will play selections from these A-list composers and more during “Fan Favorites: Part Three” at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy’s Scott Center, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, Melbourne.
This is an op-ed by Scott Center, a Savannah small businessman and a frequent visitor to Forsyth Park.
Savannahians love to complain. It is our birth rite. Despite the fact that we live in the most beautiful city in America, we gripe about the weather, the bugs, the tourists, the politicians, the drinking water, the newspaper, etc.
In my 65 years, the one thing that I have never heard anyone complain about is Forsyth Park. I have heard it described as our crowning jewel and the heart of the city, but I have never heard it mentioned negatively.
The city loves the park, no one more than the Friends of Forsyth. For five years, this off shoot of the Trustees Garden Club has taken it upon themselves to raise money to create a master plan. Parks need to be maintained. All trees and plants eventually get sick and die. A schedule of care and new planting has to be devised and adhered to. Without a plan, the park could be altered on a whim.
